  1. The Hornets were led by Senior Andrew Smisek with 19 points & 18 rebounds.  Junior Billy Daniels had 11 points and Senior Justin Ellard had 10.  They actually looked like they were having some fun out there.  They may not get many wins this season but you'll be hard-pressed to find a team that plays harder than the Caldwell Hornets.
  2. I assume in Cedar Park, where ever that is...possibly by Austin, maybe?
  3. Anybody know anything about these guys?  I hear they are supposed to be pretty good & have 2 guys averaging like 25 points a game.
  4. Gotta agree with that one.  Even the 4A's rarely have multiple sport athletes.  It's happens, but not much anymore!
  5. At Caldwell, this year they have 4 kids (2 Seniors/2 Sophomores) who don't play football.  1 of those kids is their only All-District player, Andrew Smisek.  The other 6 kids play football...Varsity football...& it looks like they will be playing football for a long time this year.  Too bad for Coach Smisek.  I know he really wants to get going!
  6. Wow! Bad score. Great story about it, though. Shame on that coach.
  7. Coach Smisek told me that we were picked to finish ahead of Rudder, but behind everybody else... Current standings going into the last game of the 1st round of district are: 1. Navasota (5-0) 2. Madisonville (4-1) 3 (tie). Cameron Yoe (3-2) 3 (tie). Taylor (3-2) 5. Rockdale (2-3) 6 (tie). Caldwell (0-5) 6 (tie). Rudder (0-5)
  8. oops....we are in district 24-3a with Navasota, Madisonville, Cameron, Rockdale, Rudder and Taylor
  9. I don't know any of that information. I would imagine that with everybody coming back who was supposed to be coming back that we would have been picked somewhere in the middle of the pack. I can ask the coach & see what he says.
  10. I know that not a lot of people give Caldwell much of a chance in anything but football; however, as a parent of a player in the program, I would like to give them some props here. The team has only won 3 games this season, but they are improving TREMENDOUSLY. We have a new coach, Coach Smisek, who inherited a tough situation. He is the 4th coach in the last 6 years, only 1 senior returned with any Varsity experience & he's not really that good (I think he averaged something like 3 points a game last year), 2 All-District players did not come out this year because, as it was told me, Coach Smisek will practice on Saturdays, and another kid didn't come out because he thinks he's getting a football scholarship (hasn't happened yet to the best of my knowledge). Well, we have a whopping 9 players on varsity, 1 with any varsity experience. The boys are getting so much better, although we probably won't win a game in our district, I and the other parents are very proud of all the players. Coach Smisek has them playing their butts off every game. We just seem to get 'out athleted' in the 4th quarter. So, for whatever it's worth, keep up the great work Hornets. In the stands we see your hard work & are very proud of you...& Coach Smisek, keep cracking that whip (& stomping that floor). ;D
  11. How good are they going to be this year? Does anybody know anything about them? Very athletic from what I hear & they have a pretty good coach...sounds like a good combination to me. Any comments?
  12. Has anybody seen any scores for any of these teams games? How good will this district be besides Navasota?
  13. Best San Antonio team I've seen in awhile. Look for them to represent Region 4 in the Drum!
  14. Clark also has a D-1 kid who has committed to one of the military academies (Navy I think).
  15. Here's my opinion...for what it's worth... 1. Navasota - Best basketball horses in this district. Coach Wesley does an excellent job with his boys & they should be the front runner in their district. Pre-season Top 15 ranking in TABC. 2. Madisonville - With athlete's all over the place, Coach Thurmond should expect a good playoff run & a chance for the district title. 3. Cameron - Talk about athletes all over the campus; however, the question is can Coach Brashear have them playing together? This is a tough call here with them over #4. Let's call this 3a & 3b! 3b. Rockdale - Very good coach in Coach Loewe. Physically strong, disciplined group. Hard to put them 4th...I mean 3b...but in this district, I'm taking the talent. 5. Taylor - Haven't heard to much about the Ducks, so I'm picking them 5th, barely, over a young & talented Rudder team from Bryan. I hear that Coach Boswell does a good job with his kids & he'll need to in this district. 6. Rudder- Big Coach Jones will have big expectations...but they're not going to happen this year...but look out in the future. Rudder will be among the areas best at any level. 7. Caldwell - Poor Caldwellians (is that a word?)! Once again they will struggle, switching to a much tougher district than last season, new coach (3rd in 4 years), and a squad that has ZERO varsity experience. Coach Smisek has/is cleaning house & is paying for it with a Senior revolt...0 seniors playing. Good luck to them. Take it easy on them come district time!
