Times have changed I guess and so has coaching.
Please enlighten us Riding Solo, what was so arrogant about the BC players and their actions? As far as BC having a short post season, please share with us your reasons for the comment or are you just bent of shape at the loss? I'd really like to hear it, I'm sure it will be a "fact filled" explanation from an "incredibly knowledgable" source like yourself. Please share with the crowd........we are all waiting for you to enlighten us. 8) Rake1
You don't have to wait long Rake. I guess we will just have to see about the post season. Maybe they will prove me wrong but what I saw against WOS was a average team at best. Not bent at the loss no indeed, BC was suppose to win Right!!!!! Now as far as the kids, I could see they were not happy with the umpire, one kid dropped his bat on home plate after a ball four count. Why not walk down the line and toss it near the dugout. He was pissed at the umpire and showed it. One more thing I noticed a kid on first base ran to second but the out was made and the end of the inning. He put his helment on second base and the head coach ran over there and got it. Sorry man but I have a problem with this. So there you go Rake I enlightened you. :P

 3. Coach Landry gets more out of his team then most coaches in the district and he has less to work with. This is not the WOS of old and never will be.  That being said, was not impressed with Bridge City at all. If BC is the best 21-3A has to offer then it will be a short post season.

If memory serves me right that is the first time in 12 years I have had the wrong score for a story, and I have wrote one or two in those 12 years.
I could accept that it was a mistake and that you had other things going on if it were not for your smart ___ overtone.  It did not impact me or my family in particular.
You posted the first smart___ overtone and apparently it did impact you or why would you comment on something that was so petty. By the way you should be jealous of the Orange spin as you call it. LOL!!!!!! ;) Atleast the Orange Leader covers Orange County which includes several schools. Not like the beaumont enterprise who only covers Ozen, Central and Westbrook. The sports staff at the Orange Leader are only two people and they try to cover 7 schools.  Maybe you should appreciate instead of hate.
How are you doing buddy hadn't seen ya in a while
Doing good my frend, good to hear from you. Watching my grandaughter tonight. I love watching her sometimes. LOL!!!!!! She is making up for the time I missed with my kids. I am loving it.

 6. Hey Gabe, maybe Gladtobehere should start writing the articles for the Orange Leader. ::)
Question is how Coach Jacks hasnt got it the past 3 years especially that first year when he turned 0-20 something team into a playoff team. Its about time he gets recognized. Whats special about taking a loaded team with speed height and several d-1 athletes to the second round?
Politic's and the women out  number him in this case. ;D ;D
 9.

[Hidden Content]
Thanks Bulldog. Just wondering to the Ozen fans how is Nekia the most valuable player in the district when she wasn't even the most valuable on her own team? Shouldn't the most valuable be the person who if you take off of a team changes the whole district race, because watching Central, it is fairly obvious Malena was the most valuable in the district. Lastly since I ain't from around here what happened to five first teamers and five second teamers?
I agree with you, 11 on the first team and 12 on the second team. Talk about watered down. These coaches are making a joke of the all district picks. Again lets give every kid a ribbon. ::) ::)
 10.
glad you agree he took a team that wasnt supposed to make the playoffs to the regional simifinals with way less talent than at least 3 teams in the district    silsbee and wos are more athletic than buna but not very good as a team  buna plays team ball no i or me just us and we
Your last statement is the way it should be. Usually teams that play as a team simply win. I realize you have to have some talent. But I will take a team who plays as 1 over being athletic anyday. ;)
 11.

Really, "a super great year?" I don't know whether to regurgitate or laugh at this comment, once again the inability of these young men to hit a jump shot consistently has proved to be their down fall again (along with free throws) and sugar coating it has to stop. They hear all season long how "quick and agrresive they are" but when they make it out of this weak district schedule to face height and a team not intimidated by their press their weakness of not being able to shoot the ball is magnified ten fold. I can't for the life of me figure out how you can consistently suit up 12 to 14 guys and only 2 of them can even come close to shooting a less than impressive 40% from the floor. Until the emphasis of the fundamentals; boxing out on EVERY rebound, closing out on penetrating guards properly, investing in the art of shooting free throws and learning how to SHOOT the ball in the mid-range area of the court Sam Houston will remain the last stop of the season for this program. I love an effective press but when it's the only thing working for you and the opposition is beating you in every other aspect of the game it always comes back to which team won the other catorgories and not just the turnover battle, WORK ON THAT JUMP SHOT TIGERS! P.S. This from a former Tiger who played in the press system and knows first hand how not developing a proficient jumpshot in your high school era can keep you on the end of the floor working with your college's training staff versus being on the other end where they are learning/running the offensive and defensive scheme's, still love those Tigers for life though!!!
Ouch!!    Very realistic post about the state of high school basketball.
I agree with both post. Fundamentals are out the window in this day and time. You can see it at the college and professional level. It has really gotten bad on the girls side. Example; the Lumberton team of 07 with Pickering and Wilson could beat this years Ozen team with no problem and Ozen was ranked No. 1 at one point. It starts with little dribblers, parents are so consumed with making their kid the star that they have lost focus with the task at hand.  They teach kids plays in practice instead of fundamentals they so much need. Plays should be the last thing you do in practice and I mean the last 15 minutes. The young kids don't run the plays anyway. This is not only happening in basketball but football also. Hardly any kids know how to tackle anymore. Really sad to watch.
 12.
buna's coach did an amazing job an should have been coach of the year
Well Kenneth, in 21-3A who ever is district champ always gets the coach of the year award. Just the way it is. I do agree with you by the way. I could go on and on about other things but my  :-X.
 13. The coaches are getting a little better, not quite there yet. ;D ;D 35 starters 31 awards.
 14. Congrats Buna on a very successful season. You ladies made 21-3A proud.
 15. Buna and HJ you have represented 21-3A very well , congrats.

It was hard, very hard!! Some of the new techniques made me shake my head. For example,  Floaters were my pet peeves at first. Now I understand the importance of it now.
My kids are grown but now I have a grandaughter, I guess I will have to adapt. LOL!!!!
 17. Well Dove it is sad that it is a business now. Hoped it would not reach the high school level but I guess it has. I guess Junior high is next, then elementary. Sorry man but this is hard for me.
 18. Since this is the girls fourm I will talk about my daughter. Her coach in high school said this not me, she said my daughter was a self made player. The reason she said that was because she worked to get better and she did every year. She went on to play college basketball at the JC level and she did the same there. Got better every year. That being said, that was not my dream for her. Yes it paided for her college but what good is that if you don't finish. My goal for her was to get a degree, be independent and not count on a man. That did not happen and it is OK, that is life. Now she must deal with it and she will. Sports are not as important anymore. I have great memories but wish my daughter was the Valedictorian instead of a basketball player.

Although district winning is a great feat. Snook also had great runs back in the day.  But i still would like to see a program continue to win State titles with 3 different coaches in cosecutive years. I'm still amazed. Mighty Bumblebees
The problem Bigcam is we live in the "ME" generation. It is not about the "Team" anymore. There in lies the problem or should I say the parents.  What the bumblebees accomplished will never be accomplished again. I agree with you. Old school is out the window which is sad.
Herein lies another problem. Yes the parents are very involved more so today. Here is what you will see if you pay close attention to pre-middle school, middle school and (yes) high school, parents behind the scene being the movers and shakers trying to get more playing time for their kid or relatives. Playing those little  games. Yes, it happens in high schools.....................
I agree Dove but I want to make something clear. I have no problem with a parent getting involved with their child because there are alot of parents who don't. Nothing wrong with trying to make your child better. That being said it is up to the child. Either they want it or they don't. Put in the work or be average. That decision is up to the chid. There is a line parents should not cross and that line is being crossed a bunch. 10 years ago "NO" parent was taking stats in the stands. Now I see a bunch with score books and I-pads keeping stats. I let both of my kids create their own destiny in sports and also in life. Did I do everything right? Hell no!!!!!! But I never kept stats on paper or an I- pad. Only in my head, but my heart was with the "W" and the "Team" plain and simple. Bleed Orange till the end.

 21.
I was blessed to be a part of 3 State teams 88-90 PA Lincoln. We won back to back titles, but 90 my senior year we lost in State. I know how these ladies feel right now. Nothing can take away the pain, but time heals all wounds. Our 88 State team will be honored in Austin in a few weeks, but that loss in 90 still stings a little. Hats off to the Seniors, you had a good ride. Underclassman, take notice. Remember this feeling & have your butts in the gym this summer working on your game together. AAU is fine, but at some point you have to work on your weaknesses, I don't think you will do that in an AAU game. You must concentrate and enhance your game. Only countless hours of individual work will get that done. Good season & God Bless the Seniors on future endeavors. Mighty Bumblebees
Awesome post, see it is the girls that are willing to put in the work to get better. I so agree with you.
Don't mean to be ugly but she will never see the playing floor.
Probably because its a track & field scholarship but hey what do i know  :P
Sorry I did not know, I stand corrected. In that case she may see the playing floor but I still hope she gets her education. No money in track and field.
