I am wondering why is there 3 topics of Crosby vs Vidor... all of them having Vidor talk a lot of trash.... Oh I know... It has been a long time sense Vidor has made the playoffs.  8 years running for Crosby under Flanigan.... And they all have to get it in now sense they will not have another till next year..
well I just leave you with this sense you have lost 1 or maybe 2 of your running  backs.... GOOD LUCK!!

We were in the playoffs in 2009 against the Dayton Broncos. Only David Smallwood is out and he took David Bollinger's place who was the original tailback that got hurt against Nederland. He has now healed nicely and will be starting against ya'll Thurs.  Since Mathews has been the coach (12 years), we've been to the playoffs 3 times, which is two more times than we had been in the 30 years before. I don't expect any of that to end any time soon because I consider him one of the best coaches and definately the best AD in SE Tex. Consequently, if I want to start 10 lines about Vidor vs. Crosby, I will. Especially given the poor decision of your school board concerning playing a home and away series with us. Shame we have to still face those things in the 21st century. Besides, the other strings were getting lengthy and tiresome. I wanted to talk SMACK!
  2. Word is he had surgery for a non-football related issue that couldn't wait any longer. Being the lion that he is, he played until Bollinger could come back and take over the tailback position again. Mr. Bollinger says he is ready to go for Crosby along with the rest of the Pirates, who are otherwise at full strength. Pray for David and a quick recovery, we need him in the second round.

I'm probably a bigger basketball fan than football fan and in my opinion, the crowds have gotten larger in 20-4A. Again, only speaking for the Pirates, I've seen us go from 10s of people to 100s in the last decade. If we have anywhere near a winning record, you can count on us packing the gym. Also, I've seen the fan base of other schools not known for basketball such as PNG really start putting them in the stands. Basketball is alive and well in SE Texas.

One of my favorite stories from high school was PN-G packing the stands at our first basketball playoff game in 22 years and breaking out into Cherokee in the middle of the game. We lost a close one to Crosby, but that had to be a sight to see. I just wish I could have been there.

Imo should have stayed with Stowers
I don't believe that the Jags had that option with Donald Stowers. He was a coach headed for greener pastures. I have to agree with SoulJa and the rest; full responsibility for Central's season falls squarely on the coaches' shoulders. Every team has injuries, adversity, etc. but it's up to the coaching staff to motivate the players and overcome. Central has plenty of talent to be in the playoffs every year; I'm not buying any of it being the players' fault.
  6. Congratulations Bulldogs. I have felt for a long time that the secret to your success is you hired a great coach and stuck with him long enough to build the program you have. All B.S. aside, this is what we Vidorians wanted to imulate and I believe have done so with Jeff Mathews. The formula for what we wanted to acheive has been there in mid-County with you and PNG all along. Again, keep up the great work and REPRESENT 20-4A in the playoffs!!!

I was really disappointed to see Livingston's football team show up last Friday to play what essentially was a playoff game for them and only have 100 fans in the stands. David Henry had a good article in Sunday's Enterprise about the PNG-Nederland-Vidor fan base that packs the stands regardless of their team's record. I can only speak for the Pirates but I've seen us go 1 - 9 and still put 5000 on the Vidor side of the field. That's loyalty. I expect to see some pretty big crowds starting Thursday night @ Lamar and continuing through the weekend. GO PIRATES, DOGS, INDIANS and PANTHERS!!! Crush 19-4A!!!

You should have saved this topic for next week, so 20-4A would have something to talk about.

They'll be plenty to talk about after PNG scalps ya'lls little ponies by 14. Dayton who?

As to the 3-3-5, I will defer to your knowledge of the team.  I have not seen all the Crosby games, but I do not remember coming out of this Defense.  And interestingly, it could be quite the curveball for Vidor.  Lately, we have been looking at 5 and 6 man (or more) fronts.

As to the Kicking Game, I appreciate your feedback.  Of the games I saw,  WTH would be a good description.  Our special teams play has not been spectacular this year.  It seems like it has been solid but very few big plays either way.

On the blocking scheme, it did seem effective when I saw it.  The LBs were not blowing up the plays at the LOS very often.

I also agree that you run the ball more than you pass.  And your QB is very effective running the ball.  But I saw some Big Homerun passing plays for yall!  Vidor DBs better not fall asleep.

Vidor's offense is quite unique.  And when it is run right, it can be very frustrating for the Defense.  And this has been a good year for the Pirate offense.  But it is no secret that 2 of our RBs are not healthy.  Only time will tell, how much they will play and how effective their replacements will be on the Big Stage.
The Pirate offensive line has been the key to our success all year. Our blocking execution reminds me of PNG back in the 70s; not real big but quick and no blown assignments. I don't think I've ever seen Vidor execute as well on offense in my 30+ years of watching them. Personally, I believe we can plug any of our running backs into this system and they will do well, like Jeremy Stephenson. All year long we have controlled the ball and the clock. We just need to keep it up come Thursday and the Pirates will do just fine....NO TURNOVERS! Watch out for Montana to pull back and heave one down the field to Smith, Whitmire or Powell. Crosby might lose a jock strap on that one if they're not careful....

Well I was all into your post until i seen the CRUSH 19-4A  :o I think 19-4A gonna at least be 3-1 after Saturday... Now as for fans? I find very sad when fans can't seem to come out and support the team when they are having a down season... I support my Broncos... Cause I ALWAYS BELIEVE in them... Good luck to all the teams..  :D
I believe it's deer season over here in Orange and Jefferson counties as well. Vidor puts 3000 - 5000 fans in the stands regardless of where the game is played. To me there are few excuses for not supporting a team as good as Livingston no matter where they play. You have to think the kids were looking in the stands and not seeing anyone there to cheer them on and everyone knows as well as I do that it means A LOT to those boys. If your child is playing football and you choose a deer stand over that you deserve how he may turn out.....
  10. The Pirates will be fine Thursday night even if Smallwood doesn't play. Bolinger is back and chomping at the bit as well as Jeremy Stephenson (soph.) who's been getting in some good minutes. Montana is healthy and let's not forget our tank at fullback, Brentyn Clark. This is high school, not the pros. Losing our last two games in district was not an option and we played accordingly against Livingston going into the playoffs on the positive note we needed. Prayers from my family go out to David Smallwood and his family.

Whats this Vidor gives up big early leads... o no.

BH/Dayton know how the Cougs like to play from behind =)
Not really. We usually lead most of the game. Close in the first half; we pull away in the second. PNG was the only exception and that game was at the Reservation for their homecoming. Anytime you play there, all bets are off. Also, we killed ourselves with turnovers (three) in the redzone which may have changed the outcome of that contest. Our team is well coached and in outstanding shape. You will find this out Thursday night.

I don't know about everyone else, but I can't wait to watch the best back in SE TX and all classifications  run. The young lad must be amazing since there are none better in the area per Cougtalk.
I said may be the best back... and he might be.

Coldsprings has some good backs, and Kelly has a nice QB/RB.

Cougtalk, only thing I can tell you is Crosby better be ready for four quarters of hard hitting football. We don't quit.

    K off to Education land.

I just don't think the pirate ship has enough sails for this one... need a few more fliers if your gonna beat the cougs in this or the next 2 seasons.

PNG was a state power in the 70s because of their execution, not because they had the state's best athletes. I see this in our O-line. The blocking against Livingston was tremendous and this is as good as I've seen the Pirates in my 30+ years of watching Vidor football. Execution is everything.

Our boys def played a great game Friday night!!!  Our boys are doing some great things this year and they have been through a lot and continue to hold their heads high and give their heart and soul every Friday night. When that point after was blocked Friday night the stands went crazy!!!!!!
