Starts with the parents! When the kids are young and impressionable. If the parents are involved (and positive) then the traditions will form and mean something to the next generation. And not just a few parents. The bulk of the community. Can't bash the school or the admins or the coaching for every move. Doing so breaks down the pride in the school.

This is all difficult to accomplish in districts without true feeder schools.

I feel ya'll as MaGee has some questioning whether the sun will ever shine again in the Pear Orchard side of Bmt. I'm just a half glass full instead of half empty type of guy. it's hard at times to remain positive about all the BS that has been backing up from the sewer lately but I'm believing in a successful season with Suggs at the helm! Let's Go Panthers!

It's hard for a ship to reach the dock on it's own and now Ozen has a Captain with experience. Now a Captain is no good without a ship to guide and Ozen has talent, despite what some may believe they have some big bodies that have to be developed and if he can get some out on the field from the hallways then he should be just fine. His crew members must be able to support him and develop the players. It's not all impossible to have success this year but a lot of things will have to fall in place real soon. Good thing is, is that, it's not Suggs 1st rodeo and I say Panthers will be solid this coming year because he will hold everyone accountable for being the best they can be. JMO ;)

Lol, you've got jokes now! It's never about the size of the dog in the fight, it's about the heart and also the discipline the dog has! You should know this as a former Panther now Jaguar, and just because something looks good on paper doesn't mean the outcome will be as expected for both sides. I'm hoping both will be playoff teams and we all know Little League is supposed to be for development and you're right on one thing, being good enough then doesn't mean good enough now and that's why there's this thing called work! Panthers, Jags & Bruins Let's Go!

Now repping your school is one thing but these are still kids and are all still developing. It should be more about education, character development and discipline but sometimes I think we all need to check ourselfs at times! Most of our kids return home from college after the 1st or second yr. of school without a degree and this is most important! As for the playing field, it will be settled on Friday nights as all of our schools have talent. Our playing days are over therefor this should only be entertainment and not throat slashing. I one have been quilty of this.

At the end of the day, it's still about blocking and tackling.  With the talent that Ozen has year in and year out, fundamentals should be the main focus.  You should run as many plays as you can run to perfection and not one more.

Bigcam this stuff is Hilarious! I am not always right, no one is but after coaching several of these kids through the years, I should know something about what Ozen talent level is an capabilities. People want kids to already be able to do certain things sometimes instead of teaching. Good coaching brings the best out of people and you do it all the time so I know you can relate! Some of these guys are amature spectators and amature critiques at best!

Ha, Haaaa, I am all of the above and then some! I can even pop popcorn for you on Friday nights so you can better enjoy those corny jokes! Let's just say that I had the pleasure of helping some of these players development at one point and time and simply wish them the best. As for coaching, some of the best coaches never played the game as well as some of the best critics!

Yeoj, I'm sorry but you don't have to change every play or every series. I've experienced playing football on the little league, jr. High, high school & college level and have seen multiple offenses from some teams. It is about discipline and you do have to have players who can grasp the change in formations. Ozen had PNG beat but would not get under center to run the clock out. Instead they snapped the ball past the QB and threw passes to stop the clock when PNG could not stop their power-I earlier that night. IJS

Ridge I have to give it too you I really wasn't aware you were a coach until I really paid attention to one of your post. you do make some good observations of the ozen program over the past few years and how they should implement certain things. so I ask the question why don't you put your name in the hat for the job.. I didn't see Eldridge on the list, or maybe that's not your real name and your name is on the list.. or maybe you aren't really a coach, or maybe you coach junior high and aren't ready for the high school level, or maybe you are one of those 7 on 7 volunteer coaches even, or worse you could be a pop warner coach who critics the  local varsity coaches and thinks that you can run little league plays on Friday nights

Yeah, only if Ozen had Denton Guyer's coach, offensive line, and quarterback, they could run that offensive. lol

Offensive lines have to be developed and working on footwork, blocking techniques and hitting the weight room can really help this situation. Remember, Ozen lined up in the power-I formation and was driving the ball against PNG and even threw from it, they also had a fullback in front of Calvin during the Central game and was successful until he fumbled and they sat him out. Vidor is never really big but they are committed to what they do and I believe if you have to line up 7 yards back to get a yard or 2 that it is not an advantage but a disadvantage. Football really is a brutal sport and we try to finesse our way up the field at times when we should be pounding people in the mouth. I think if they ran a multiple offense then that would give them greater chance of success. Running some spread, some I or power I, tightend sets and even some wing-t sets would allow them to find the weakness of their opponents to defend. I do agree that the discipline to do their assignment is most important! JMO

The community doesn't want a spread offense but a multiple offensive set! This is one of the gripes they have is that the offense with the previous two coaches were too one dimensional! Pro-sets, I formation, split backs, single backs, tight ends, power I, double wing-T, spread, would utilize the talent at Ozen and make it difficult to line up against and defend. Spread is to easy to line up against and you have to have a quarterback who can read defenses and make all the throws! They don't have a quarterback in place that is dedicated to learning all of this at the moment!

Bigcam, it's a shame because I always try to improve my craft in coaching everyday and every year. I try to prepare every kid I coach for the next level of baseball and have had lots of success in doing so but when I announce that I also give training lessons at a very reasonable price to help enhance kids skill level, most prefer to spend their money and time on other things. This sport is an investment probably more so than any other but sometimes I don't think people care to realize this! SMH

I'm a basketball guy, but I know a few things about baseball. Size doesn't matter & it is a skilled sport. You can't pick it up & put it down like many other sports. The problem with Ozen is the same problem we have at our little leagues. Too many Coaches seeking athletes & not teaching skills. My young Son played @ Amelia & Spindle Top & I saw the same things being done at both, not enough teaching or discipline. There aren't enough quality Coaches around to teach, develop, & mold kids. The MESS we call baseball @ Central & Ozen actually started in little league & has morphed in HS & now magnified with the Circus BISD is displaying. The saying goes " the apple doesn't fall far from the tree"
Every Coach your child plays for May not be the best, but if he/she were taught the proper skills as a young kid, we would still see them shine because Players make plays in whatever sport they play. I'm Done

every coach named in that letter had the respect of the kids families and most of the community two of the coaches were ozen grads and would do anything and everything to get the school back to  where it was during their playing days. Just my thoughts that coaches like that just dont up and walk away from kids or a program that they have so  much interest in. The question here is what did PS3 do to run these guys away. I have no dogs in the hunt as far as ozen goes but I hate it for the kids the parents and the community that one guy as destroyed an up and coming program. Jeff nelson  may not have won every game but watching his games you could tell the kids were prepared and would run through brick walls for their coaches. Many kids on his teams played above their level or expecttions. If BISD doesnt do something fast Wringley Brothers will have a perminate home at Beaumont OZEN.
