IÂ donât care if anyone agrees or disagrees with it, that was a well-written, well-reasoned post.Â
They probably didnât start it, but Odessa Permian certainly perfected the ârecruiting processâ during the Oil Boom in the 70s and 80s. Â Unlike Yates, the big selling point was financial remuneration. Â Dads got jobs, Moms got jobs. Â Families got homes. Â And an above average football program was turned into a powerhouse/dynasty. Â Bissinger wrote a fantastic book on the town, the program, and the issues of race that still plagued the area at the end of the 80s. Â Why he didnât delve more into that aspect of Mojo I guess only he can answer. Â Because it was certainly there and no secret in West Texas and elsewhere. Â But no one said Boo about it Â
Yates didnât invent that wheel (or HF or EC or whomever else you want to bring up about HS âmove insâ). Â They are merely operating under rules that have probably been skirted since the UiL came into existence. Â

Really too many to choose from. Like a poster stated, the Silsbee/Dallas Carter game was very special. But, if I had to pick my most memorable game, it would have to be the 1972 4A (then top classification) state semifinal between Dallas Roosevelt and Houston Wheatley. My first state tournament and as an 8 year old this game was what got me hooked on going every year. The top two teams in the state with Roosevelt's Ira Terrell and Wheatley's Eddie Owens going at it. Game ended 111-109 Roosevelt in regulation, no overtime and no 3 point line. But what I remember the most was Gregory Gym being packed to the max and folks outside who could not get in had climbed up on the roof to watch thru the windows on the roof. It was crazy!!!
Many numerous other games but that's the one that is forever fixed in my mind.

This is similar to how United went out last year. A team knows they canât guard Kasen individually so you pack it in and make them shoot and cut off all driving lanes. You have to prepare to face all kinds of defenses in the playoffs you will see it all. Anyways good season BU ...Â
