  1. Scalp Em I know who you are now....funny thing is we are kin to each other. Not sure if you knew that or not. LOL how you doing I will shoot you a FB friend message
  2. Also I really feel I missed out on some things by not being in band....I think those people had an untold secret society going on and where laughing behind us athletes back....I mean heck I rode home from the game with the stinky guy setting next to me, they rode home with chicks???? where is the justice.
  3. Thanks ScalpEm not sure who you are, but I have a lot of PNG past..LOL....Hey who ever wins or loses if we could make a few bucks for a worthwhile cause I am all for it.
  4. RB that sounds great, I also got a PM from Redbirdsrock last week. It will be great competition, and I think we could raise a good deal of money for a worthy cause being close to the holidays I am sure there will be people that could use it.. Send me a message with a contact person and their number and I will give them a call. Thanks Richard Morreale
  5. I am the Sr coach, and have a son playing on the Jr. team, I know we are in the works with BC to put on a game. As Scalbrine said we have a lot on the hard wood already but I am going to try and set up a Friday night lights game with the BC coach. Would like to try and do it first Friday Night of December.   I would also like to get the coaches together and talk about running concessions for it and put all concession profit towards a local charity of the winners choice. Then not only are our boys having a good time but the proceeds will benefit a good cause. What say ye coaches????? Richard Morreale
  6. congrats to both of you and all the kids that earned a spot
  7. PS when you send me a message let me know what little league, and district you are involved with. Thanks Richard Morreale
  8. Guys and Gals     Thanks for all of the support it looks like this year may be a doozie. Also if your little league is in need of repair or "fixin up" send me a message. This was limited to District 12 but now we have other districts involved so it will now be expanding to several area districts. It would be nice to get enough people involved to maybe help out 2 or more little leagues this year.
  9. yes it is kinda like ralphing without the alcohol.
  10. Good job Bulls, spin it how you want it STJFL, TIFI, Lonestar, it is good to see kids from this area doing well. good job boys keep up the good work
  11. QueenB I have to agree with you on that. Bridge City knows how to make a good burger and add Jalapenos if you need them. This year during Baseball season I am going to get a group together and judge different concession stand food. It will be fun and tasty. Send me a private message and in it put what qualifies you to be on the team, I will pick 3 others that are willing to travel to a few local games around the area and sample the fare... Who's in????
  12. I will also say that YES the health department does check the facility or is supposed to. I know in Beaumont they do, and I might add that West End Little League has received an A every year that I have been around, they have a great volunteer crowd, and some of the best food around. As an umpire that travels around, I might also add that we as umpires have our favorites West End--Philly Cheesesteak, North End You gotta have the wings, Close toss up between Amelia and Jasper's hamburgers, Kountze bbq, I could keep going on but I am getting hungry.
  13. Elhector you are in the wrong league, or you need to have a serious talk to your board. Last week I reffed, ran the chains, concessioned, finally got to coach, and then I got to stay late and help clean up. This is a typical game day for all of our coaches and parents
  14. Woo hooo I voted for ya, and I might add I feel much better about myself...LOL
  15. Good Idea DC 9 and then you give away the items in your concession stand. or better yet just charge cost and do no profit...
  16. I agree bball, like I said I took a year off from (volunteer) umping because I got tired of hearing from THOSE parents, but in the long run I missed interacting with the kids. If the parents would stay out of it the kids could care less. Like I said you never hear a kid that loses a sand lot game say the other team was cheating or the umpires cost them the game, nor do you ever see forums like this one get so heated over a sand lot game.
  17. I can see Yeps point, and I do agree with it to an extent. But only to the point that they do not bring the whole team down. I have been on teams with both situations, ones that basically blew ANY chance their team had of winning by putting their child (and keeping them there) in a position they should not be playing. And also the other end where a coach places their child in a position that they should not be playing, but does so at a time and place that does not cause overall harm to the team and with this one I have no problem and agree with Yep that it should be a fruit of the spoils of coaching so to speak.
  18. I hate to hear that Tee, a couple of years ago I took a year off from umping because of the abuse, back at it now but I know how you feel. You can only tell yourself I am doing this for the kids so many times before you throw your hands up and say "hey its all yours" to the parents.
  19. Sorry I just realized I chopped a few of my ways to BECOME "THAT" parent 4) Always look for the college scout that you think MUST be at your 8-12 year olds game 5) Question EVERY call the umpire or official makes even though you have NEVER umped a game in your life. 6) (and my favorite) ALWAYS find some flaw in a child on your childs team if they do well. This way it points out the bad in that athlete and makes your child look better.
  20. Hats off to TIFI, I have asked (actually told) several parents that I do not allow them to be used on teams I am coaching.
  21. I think if you follow these simple rules you will NOT become “THAT” parent or coach, and also some things you can do TO become “THAT” parent or coach.                                           To NOT become “THAT” parent 1) Watch a sand lot baseball game with no adults involved, you will find everything works itself out and every kid has a blast. 2) Don’t drop your kid off (usually late) then leave, and come back later (usually late) and pick them up while the coach waits on you, and then show up on game time to criticize everything the coach is doing. 3) Remember that EVERY kid out there is the best one on the field if you do not believe this ask anyone of their parents and they will tell you. 4) Don’t scream and yell at anyone’s kids during a game including your own 5) Teach your child to respect the game, the other team, and the coaches and officials. 6) While noise makers are great for the Pro and College Levels there is ABSOLUTELY no justification in banging boards, shaking rocks in a bottle, blowing air horns, or ringing cow bells to “RATTLE” an 8-12 year old  CHILD who is trying to play a GAME. If you must do it as your team enters or leaves the playing field.                                         To BECOME “THAT” parent 1) ALWAYS blame the officials anytime your child loses a game 2) Talk badly about a player, coach, or official while sitting in the stands, chances are someone kin to them will be close by and you can hurt their feelings also. 3) Tell your kid who the worst players on their team are so they can keep the ball away from them. This is all in fun, and I am by no means pointing anyone out, these are just some things I have observed in my 20+ years of umpiring, coaching, and parenting. I am guilty of breaking some of these but try hard not to, please feel free to add others as you see necessary.
  22. Hawks played Deveyville last night, and I must add it was about the best game we have had so far as far as sportsmanship goes on BOTH sides. Great group of young athletes there. Look forward to seeing them again in the playoffs. hats off to you Deweyville coaches and players.
  23. Thanks to all of the responses, I have your emails saved, and will send out more info as the date gets closer. If you know of any buisness that would like to sponser this event send me their contact info and I will get in touch with them.
  24. Guys last year we at the West End Little League started what I hope will become a long tradition. Last year the WELL started a grass roots effort to help other little leagues in need. We coordinated with the Lumberton Little League and had about 15-20 volunteers and their children show up to help them prepare their fields for the upcoming baseball season. Their fields still suffered some storm damage, and they where also dealing with the fire they had. Our volunteers worked side by side with theirs for the betterment of the young athletes that play ball in Lumberton.   This year I would like to see this effort grow with other area teams getting active in this campaign to show the true meaning of little league which is sportsmanship. If you or your little league would like to participate please contact me and I will keep you updated with information as to when, and what little league this will take place at this year. Thanks Richard Morreale
  25. Great photos, I do not even have a kid involved but enjoyed them. Nice photography, the look on some of these athlete's faces is priceless. Now this is what it is all about, not all of the hubba ballou that is going on in some of the other posts...
