Bet you the baseball coach doesn't retire...he'll surface somewhere. He doesn't want to work for this AD and if a class act doesn't want to work for someone that tells me something. So if the AD loses next year he should fire himself if he fired the softball coach after two bad years. From my sources the girls basketball coach left because of the AD...didn't want to work for him. I was in this business for a long time and I will tell you the way he is doing things...is not the way you do them.

Horns93...you drinking the wrong kool-aide my friend. Maybe I am wrong...time will tell.

Yes Rizon, you are wrong...my kool-aid is "crystal clear right," time will tell that we have the right AD at the right time for HF.

No way they make it this year. I think HF will be there.

Only time will tell but considering HJ beat HF last year and returns a lot while HF graduates a lot I'll go with HJ. Game could go either way though...I see the district like this:

Silsbee
WOS
BC
HJ
OF
Buna
HF
HJ lost one of  their best player and coach. HF will have an experienced line and talented skilled positions. Should be fun.

So the new AD has run off the baseball coach, girls basketball coach, and reassigned the softball coach. My sources tell me a lot of unhappy people out there. MaHaffey was a class act. Softball coach had been there since I moved to the area. Do not know much about the basketball coach. Maybe someone with deeper sources than I have can fill me in...I'm not connecting the dots on why here.

HFfan5...any idea of those assistant coaches plan on staying?
Connect these dots...Mahaffey was a class act...The Baseball Coach Retired..... The Softball Coach has had a horrible record the last 2 seasons....so they are getting new leadership there...... Just because softball coach has been there a long time does not guarantee her keeping the job....if they are not improving.....Girls baskeball coach has done a good job and got a job at a bigger program...good for her.....Sounds like the AD is doing a great job..... He is doing his job......Assistants (Leaders) have to show they are able to be led....before they are giving the job to lead......dots connected.
4. Basketball will never rule over football. Remember that's why they got rid of the Football program at Lamar in 1989. As soon  as Lamar dropped it the basketball program faltered and the enrollment went down. Lamar spent the next 20 years trying to get football back.  So, the answer to your question is yes. HJ does want a good football program as well as a good basketball program.

Hamshire**** For god sakes lol. H-F has some really good pitching coming back this year with Jannise, Herring and Johnson. If they can get the bats going they could easily compete for the second or third spot

Forgot Jeffcoat. BC does not like Herring or Jeffcoat. Jannise was a problem.
6. Who cares where they are from. I don't watch Texas or A&M because of how many SETX boys are on the roster. I watch because they have good programs. Who ever started this thread got their feelings hurt or something. If Lamar was undefeated last season no one would not care if every player was from tim-buc-to.  The fact is SETX is well represented, but  we do not compete well yet in the Southland Conference. This is essentially a new program, so give it a rest. They have done well so far and should continue to improve. The program should be evaluated on wins and loses, not how many local boys are on the team.

I know this is going to be a fire-starter but I think it needs to be said. This is what a good African-American coach can do for a program, especially in the south. Kevin Sumlin has now flipped Thomas Johnson, Seals-Jones, and just picked up Justin Manning who I think is the best d-tackle in the state. Before Sumlin got there TAMU was very unlikely to get the top players in the state, especially if they were African-American. Very hard for those kids to blend in College Station and feel like it's a second home unlike Austin or the DFW area. He has also gotten Kameron Miles to decommit from Tennessee. Eldridge Massington has not yet committed to TAMU but is looking like a likely target for Sumlin, Massington is a USC decommit. If A&M can continue to keep winning they're going to blow Texas out of the water in recruiting which has been the Horns lifeblood for a decade, it seems like unless you were an All-American in high school UT wouldn't offer you in the past. A&M is fitting right along in the SEC though, I believe UT didn't offer Manning yet because he was a non-qualifier last time I checked.
I think its more about Johnny Manziel and the SEC, but Sumlin was the right choice for A&M at this moment in History. The other coach recruited Johnny Football, Sumlin was smart to start him.
I agree, but Sumlin made Manziel. If he was this good he would have started over Tannehill last year. If Sherman was still there they would be 6-6 right now just like they were last year in the Big 12. There's a reason Manziel was playing receiver on the scout team last year, he barely won the job a few days before the season started. He was also the # 40 qb in his class and A&M was his best offer. When you start giving Sumlin guys near the top of their class like Mack Brown has been getting at Texas I think he's going to turn into Steve Spurrier.
If Texas is smart they need to fire Brown and get A&M offensive coordiantor Kliff Kingsbury before Texas Tech hires him.
