  1. Thanks, Gabby and Jacobs should be getting some scouts over there.
  2.   Saw Lufkin at AM Cons last week, brutal weather. Riley Farrell was sitting on 89/90, a few above 90, only pitched a few frames.  (Not McFarland's day).   How's the pitcher in Crosby out of the gate?   Any reports on P Jacobs ?   Any on Brenham, Roberts & Bolcerick?   Who's number one hurler at BH this year ?   Who in SE Texas is throwing 90 plus currently?
  3.   How are they playing now? Just curious how they can play as a unit?     Following some of 2012's coming up, they definitley have some hitting, defense though would concern me.(defense killed them last year) The new sophomore pitcher from Tomball, still needs experience, although has some velo and secondary.     Still would at this time be carefull with Tomball, Lynch has a squad also. Whatever, it will be fun for all involved, and wish each team the best, I think Woodlands is still missing a middle infield, but has some big bats and some great pitching. Same ol same ol, there.   I like Westside, Lamar, Brenham, for greater Houston area, then secondary would be Westbury Christian, Woodlands, Tomball, Klein Collins, and maybe a Magnolia. Sorry, don't see a Golden Triangle team in it, but will listen or stand to be corrected. Lot of my opinions are based on top prospects, coaching, perpetual winners.  Maybe a Cy Fair team but no prospects there stand out presently. Corpus once again will be sending Calallen and Carrol and or Moody back to State.     Who is the real deal in the Triangle this year? Anybody to come see?
  4.     Saw the list of the honoree's, great list indeed!!  Absent from the list was Patrick Leonard at St Thomas, he is a top 100 HS prospect, 3b or OF.      Interesting two schools had 2 players, Lamar's Williamson and Langford and Brenham's Roberts and Bolserick.     Speaking of top HS 100 draft prospects, the dinner was well represented in Daniel Mengden (pitcher/catcher, great two wayer) TX AM, Brian Brickhouse (94 at times, and big hammer)NC Tarheels, Drake Roberts ( area's top SS) Arkansas. These three probably will not see college, and you can expect Leonard to be the Tyler Green of 2011, not making this list, but getting huge payday. Should have a few more drafted somewhere in June from this list such as Price Jacobs, Cole Langford, Wayne Taylor,Tyler Boardman, and Jordon Stevens. Should be fun year.
  5.   sorry wrong thread,  should be comp bats
  6.     I think Ralph Garr, the current Atlanta Brave scout, I think led the National League and won the batting title playing second base. Believe he was 5' 9" about 170. Played with Hank Aaron, if I remember right. Thank God he didn't play college ball. Oh, Dustin Pedroia, he did play college ball at Arizona, wonder how he ended up MVP of the American League? He must a been a hell of  a fister in college. Let's see, Joe Morgan, etc etc etc   You will also find long loopy swings can be muscled out in high school and college ball. The wood will right or wrong EVERYONES swing. I liked that Nederland kid the last year or so, small but had tremendous exit speed on his bat, can't think of his name, probably about 5' 8'' 165. Spainish surname, where did he end up? I only saw him in left field, hope he went on to the next level. GAMER
  7.     Introducing wood bats would be a blessing for any scout. Not that they cannot tell a good swing from metal, but you instantly recognize the sweet sound of a ball hit properly. battting averages overall would drop 100 plus points for most high school players, remember, I said "most" not all.     Not sure of wood bats being illegal in high school games, but I saw a fall game two years ago with Cinco Ranch and Brenham, where a couple of quality pitchers were dueling, and a Brenham kid blasted a couple off of the lc wall, the Cinco coach went to home plate umpire for 15 minutes and ruled that he must go back to metal? Never have forgotton that, and really do not know if wood cannot be used, anybody know for sure?
  8.     Both of these young men are suredly top prospects out of the "triangle" area. I agree with Rawnsley assesments, he is consistenetly right.     Dishon might be right now one of top 4 or 5 outfielders in Houston area in 2011, I will also mention Nick Williams in that grouping. Haven't seen Menard, but reports are athletiscm is very projectable, the speed sure helps .
  9.   Saw a great game against Southlake Carrol last year, when ya'll beat their best, I think it was Curtiss. Ya'll held on and won on your defense.   Also caught a couple of Dell Diamond games this last year and the year before.I think ya'll have won it back to back. You run ruled Lubbock Monterrey, Round Rock, etc. etc etc. I will be there again this year, great event and LOADS of talent. Also nice to play at Dell, I know the baseball guys appreciate the hospitality there.
  10.   Well, in that case congratulations is in order for you also, as you must be the Dad. Congrats
  11.     It is a great honor, last years list was real impressive. I always wondered how Tyler Green from Brazoswood signs for 750,000 with the D'Backs did not make it. Lot of these boys did go in draft, Jamo T., J Lakind, K Perkins,  am I missing some ?     Can't wait to see this years list, when is it public or is it already?
  12.     Does anyone know who selects this list ?
  13.     Heard from scouts in attendence at the USA Team was stacked. Keep in mind it is a team from the whole nation, so you can expect such.     Apparently Banditos hung with them, Oakland scout said Austin Dean ('12), Drake Roberts ('11) contributed on defense and at the plate. Tough team they have with all those top ranked players PLUS #2 ranked 2012 Nick Williams.     That program is on the rise with top 2011 & 2012 talent. Trying to get name of the Bandito catcher who is a 2011? Geegander can you help?
  14.     Not knowing the boys being mentioned this year, I would be hard pressed to see ANY team in the area be close to the likes of BH with 2007 and 2008 pitching staff. That comes along once every 20 years to a highschool.     Maybe Eagle 07 can tell me why they didn't go further, with that PS, it was a dream team?     Saw them in early preseason tournament play, cannot remember where. If I remember right it was also a team filled with "linebacker" bodies.
  15.     As a follow up, interesting read on the rankings of this years signing classes nationwide is provided by perfect game today. SEC dominates the top 10 classes, but then they will also be fragmented by the 2011 draft.     I mentioned UH having a great signing class, being they will most likely have their commits hit campus, that means alot. OF Keegan Sanford (Westbury Christian) is relatively unknown but has 55 plus tools in power and speed. Keep an eye on him. Great job by their staff especially in transition.     Texas AM should retain most of their class except Mengden (Westside) as his two way tools will be hard for scouts to pass on.     Rice will possibly lose McFarland (Lufkin), highly rated but will move to 3b possibly OF with his speed at next level.     Texas will be decimated by their top tier signees to draft, but will likely keep a couple because of agent/money demands.     TCU faired well, could not capitalize on their Omaha appearence with Whitting's departure. Toads still came up with classy bunch,  will compete in Mountain Conference.     Baylor made a lot of real late moves, wait and see on that class.     Interesting grouping by PG, gives everyone something to talk about. Let it fly. .
  16.     This is going to be a quality thrower down the road, he has much projectability with good coaching at Lamar.     Saw him by mistake last year in playoffs vs. Brenham, he lost a tough game to the very tough Brenham squad. He is on the radar for sure.
  17.     Pretty good job, considering he was late to the dance. The one thing I think he did, was sign some guys who he knows are going to come to school. He doesn't have to worry about the draft much as other schools do such as Texas. Quality kids, who should help quickly.     Looking at this years signing classes, some rankings are appearing and perfect game has the most current. These rankings are flawed, as most of the top ten schools are sitting with signees who will be heading to rookie ball. Texas, though ranked #2, will not keep their top prospects, but as Coach G states if he can just land a couple he had a great recruiting class.     All the top ten ranked schools (mostly SEC) will be riddled by the draft.
  18.     The "grand daddy" of showcase baseball begins Thursday in Jupiter. I was doing roster checks yesterday and tonight they listed favorites to compete. You can see the area well represented with both teams and individuals comprising the top contenders such as your Texas Sundevils.      Good luck to all.     ( listed on perfect game site, I won't list it as it may be against the forum rules)
  19.     That is super! Lot of times the host families in these experiences become life long friends and their children get great mentors such as your son. Baseball is more than just the game.
  20.     Congrats!!! Hope he is having a great experience up there, (some long bus rides) but he probably is enjoying every minute. I know you will be glad to see him before he heads back to school. What school ?     Starting to see draft lists appearing for 2011, looks like college will dominate at least the top few picks with Purke , Rendon, hosting the one and two spot, ulike the Harper, Taillon of this year.     Texas is well represented on both sides college and prep. Prep names that seem common on projected lists are:     Matt Dean 3b     Trevor Story of     Daniel Mengden p/c     Brian Brickhouse p     Chris McFarland inf/of     Wayne Taylor c     Drake Roberts mif      Ricardo Juaquez p     C J McElroy of             This list is not in any particular order, and will add more names as they continue to surface. I think overall the 2011 pitching could be a more prominent than this years. Fun to watch this years during their final few days of negotiation. The clubs have been holding the line this tear, economy and fear of the slot system dropping from round 5 to round 15 puts ownership in a keen postion.
  21.     Jupiter is always such a spectacle, unlike AC or TOS, it is on so many fields you cannot be everywhere at once. Hard to follow, just like last month's wood bat in Marietta.     I assume that most of your boys play Sundevils, Heat, Marucci, Angels, etc. all great programs. Maybe some Bandito's.  I followed those Bandito/Prospect 16, they have a few draft chices sitting on that one, maybe one of the tops in Nick Williams, (Galveston).  Hinnosa, Dean and Geisler are all (Texas) sophomore commits out of Klein Collins. Speaking of the Wood Bat tournament, Mason Robbins (Southern Miss) and Roberts (Arkansas) were two of top hitters overall. They both enriched their stock there.     Big buzz on Charles Tilson on White Sox at AC. He REALLY improved his draft status, committed to ( ILLINOIS ?) power plus and 6.4 /60 according to reports. That kid should go be going to a SEC school, if he goes at all.
  22.     Don't know about blogs, all the details I have been following are on AREA CODE BASEBALL site or ESPN RISE and phone calls to scouts in attendance.       The White Sox just won the event, beating the last place Texas Rangers 9-1. As far as Roberts got some great reports early on him, as well as quite a few on their roster. As you know, pitching dominates there, but there were some notable hitting perfomances.       Roberts played 2nd base and could possibly end up there with his size. All the details stat wise are on that site, should answer at least most questions. Unfortunately, broken bat hits, balls squared up but ended being outs, pitchers who threw corners and and secondary stiuff, and great defensive composition, things scouts look at , won't be in there.       Any more high school summer ball still going on in Houston?
  23.    Roberts was one of few if any freshman invited two years ago. Looking at my old notes, he did pretty well there. Sophomore year missed the tryouts due to making USA 32 man roster in Cary.(hype?) Last year the Sox asked him to go, but protocol states HE MUST BE DECLINED A SPOT IN HIS ORIGIN REGION. Well, that wasn't good. This year the Sox once again asked him to go there, also (some ARKANSAS commits are White Sox). The rules state he HAD to attend a Texas tryout, he did. I do not think there was any intention for him to try and play for the Rangers OR the Rangers were going to take him after all the drama. My two cents.      On his game, needs to shorten throwing stroke from SS, trys to gun everything. College or minors will give him proper arm action. Has a cannon.     Hype? All hype is just hype, it is words, paper, polls, popularity, etc, etc. Facts are he is a SEC player to be, and I know he had offers everywhere. Recruiters giving big scholarships and MLB area scouts define who is worthy.     Do not want to make any  negative comment about any player, just remember wood bats, speed and arm are much different than high school ball at these levels during the summer. Many great high school hitters struggle with wood and 90 plus , different game.     Not at Long Beach this week, but am following it, at the Connie Mack. Had Bundy, Bradley, and Howard stayed with the White Sox (3 of top ten pitchers) ranked this year, the Sox would go undedeated. These boys are out of eastern Oklahoma and Arkansas.Instead they have carried their team to the CM World Series here in New Mexico. Good luck to all, enjoy the last days of summer.
