softball2011 got a reaction from whsalum in 23-3A PLAYOFF PREDICTIONS
Well it was pretty easy to see why Crockett kept putting off the game, it was the only way to extend their season.....

Lcm has played there many times in the last few years and they are usually in very good shape. -

I'm not sure on what conditions the fields are in, but Goose Creek ISD is usually a good choice in that area.

softball2011 got a reaction from wackpack in 23-3a let's hear it.
I just realized the topic was to pick kids, I thought it was pick how the district would end up ...... sorry to get off topic.
I think it would cool if we had some sort of a system whereby the umpires submitted some sort of grading system or ranking of what they saw on the field. All umpires that worked the district would get to submit game by game and good keep their votes private if they wanted. I think they have the best available perspective on who is a standout outfielder, infielder, pitcher, catcher and by letting them all vote you might be able to factor out favoritism. Let's face it, what coach wouldn't stand behind their own players as much as possible.
Our district is definitely blessed with some good athletes and some baseball talent. But you got to get it done on the filed. Like the quote says "Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard" I enjoy watching these boys reach their potential regardless of the name on the front or the back of the jersey.

softball2011 got a reaction from Javelina in 23-3a let's hear it.
Warren - Team to beat right now, steady and simple and just getting it done.
Kountze - Flashes of dominance followed with glimpses of doom - if they figure it out, they could take control
Buna - Pretty much the steady eddie of the crowd, whether you love em or hate em, they are 5-2
fourth is up for whoever wants to go get it.
Hardin is my pick to get done.

softball2011 reacted to IT'S IN THE BONE in Kountze 5 Buna 2/Final
Ryder Lognion did a great job pitching...Buna played his style of pitching well. They crowded the plate and tried to take away his bender. Ryder had to have great placement to be effective...I think he only gave up one hit. Marshall came in the 7th and shut the door...once again that combination worked well together. Great game by Buna...Kreston Richardson scared me to death with a very well hit ball to right field that was tracked down by Hunter smart for the final out of the 6th inning, "clutch play"! if that ball got down than its most likely a tie game. Joe Clark for Buna pitched a nice game for the Cougars as well...the freshman catcher for Buna, "Askew", did a good job behind the dish. Not sure of the young man's name that came in to pitch in relief for the Cougars, but he showed alot of poise. Perry Smith...dang boy! you make fast look not so fast! Great game to be had by all...alot of fun to watch!

softball2011 reacted to Rake1 in 2014 class going to play @ next level??
Lots of factors in deciding either way. Nobody in their right mind would go play D1 at a school where the roster was full of Freshmen and Sophs at their particular position. Who wants to go sit and wear a hat just to say you were a D1 guy when you can go JUCO, get a ton of AB's and innings. If a D1 school has an opportunity for a freshman to come in and play right away then that's a different story all together. Scholarships and money are way different also. A 100% full ride to a D1 school is not a complete myth but it may as well be because they are so few and far between. JUCO on the other hand the full ride is far more common. Compare 2 years free school taking the same basic classes with a fraction of the students in the classroom and all of a sudden JUCO looks very appealing. Compare that financially to a 50% or 60% ride to a D1 and the dollars start adding up.
Each individual player has their own set of circumstances to deal with and different factors to influence their decision. No 1 path is the perfect one for everybody and each player ultimately has to make the best personal choice for themselves. JUCO baseball is far from being "minor league" because you have some serious talent playing at that level with an eye on the major league draft. Plenty of top quality players pass D1 schools in favor of JUCO just to be eligible for the draft earlier. Some big league arms lurking around in places you would never think about. Hop off the bus in "nowhere Nebraska" and walk in to a guy pumping 93 from the left side, talk about an eye opener!
When the College World Series starts check out the rosters and see how many JUCO transfers made each roster, it will surprise you. It's a blessing to play ball beyond high school and to have that opportunity help you get a good education is a win/win situation no matter who you are. Good luck to all these young men as they take that next step in both their life and baseball career.

Wherever these young men go, hard work on and off the field, keeping grades up and a lots of luck play into it. I know a highly recruited player that played well but forgot he was a student first. Got the boot. This is a challenge for all young men.

softball2011 got a reaction from chukslegacy in 21-3A All-District Team
I am happy for all the kids that got recognized. I do think with the amount of kids getting honors, it does water down the intention of the awards from days gone by and that was for all the coaches to pool their opinions and come up with the "Most Outstanding" of players in their respective positions. The coaches can never make everyone happy whether there are 25 awards or 65. Whatever the number, I do believe most if not all the coaches try to be fair and unbiased based on the data and stats they have available. BTW, my kid wasn't one of them, and I feel bad for him. My job as a parent though is to pick him up and help him be realistic about what he needs to do to achieve those honors in the future if they are important to him, not bash the system, or other players that made it ahead of him. On a positive note, our district/area has and still is providing a whole lot of qualified baseball players to the next level from DIII's to MLB, for which we should all be very proud of. For example, almost any team you see playing in CWS baseball tournament or softball for that matter, has kids from our general geographical area.
