  1. I don't know about Kirbyville, seems like they aren't living up to the hype at all, I heard they got rolled pretty easy Monday night with their ace on the mound.  I assume they thought Kountze was a much more important game than this Friday.  I think Friday between Buna and Kirbyville will really tell us where the district stands.  Warren always plays competitive ball but don't get a lot of respect .  I think they will be a spoiler for sure for at least one of the other 3.  Then there is always EC who I hear has had their struggles but still has the talent available..... so who knows.  I just hope it comes down to all the game mattering so whomever heads to playoffs is the most ready to represent the district well.  Goodluck to everyone!!!

    Buna

    Kountze

    Warren

  2. Buna played bad enough to lose no doubt, but unbelievable officiating.  For both sides.  Neither side was playing dirty.  I definitely don't think the refs had a dog in the hunt or cared who won, but it was just out of control, too many very rough fouls not called.  It's not football.  There is always gonna be some missed calls and mistakes, but the refs should always keep the game safe.  Hardin played hard and played to the final whistle and earn their win, not taking anything away from that.

  3. No one route is the perfect route for everybody,   Since most of the above mentioned kids are unlikely to play MLB based on probability only, to not be realistic about one's likelihood to have opportunity to compete for playtime early on, is foolish in my  opinion.  I believe the order of priority for most should be Academic integrity of School, Athletic competitiveness of program, Likelihood to contribute early vs later, and financial fit for mom and dad, in that order.  I think JUCO is a great path for a D! caliber player who just needs the reps and experience and time to grow and mature, they just need to make sure to stay on top of Academics so everything will be building towards their transfer whether they continue to play or not.  RAKE1 is dead on, on how many transfer junior JUCO players go on to play for great D! programs, as will be seen on rosters this CWS as ones before that.  Regardless of the plan, to have a plan is the important thing.  It hardly goes just how you think it will, but if you are organized and open minded, a lot more kids could play next level and have a ton of fun in the process.

  4. I am happy for all the kids that got recognized.  I do think with the amount of kids getting honors,  it does water down the intention of the awards from days gone by and that was for all the coaches to pool their opinions and come up with the "Most Outstanding" of players in their respective positions.  The coaches can never make everyone happy whether there are 25 awards or 65.  Whatever the number, I do believe most if not all the coaches try to be fair and unbiased based on the data and stats they have available.  BTW, my kid wasn't one of them, and I feel bad for him.  My job as a parent though is to pick him up and help him be realistic about what he needs to do to achieve those honors in the future if they are important to him, not bash the system, or other players that made it ahead of him.  On a positive note, our district/area has and still is providing a whole lot of qualified baseball players to the next level from DIII's to MLB, for which we should all be very proud of.  For example, almost any team you see playing in CWS baseball tournament or  softball for that matter, has kids from our general geographical area.

  5. 1st run came after shepherd threw it over 3B when they had the runner in a rundown on a bunt.

2nd run came after shepherd dropped the ball in a rundown at 3B.  He then scored on a sac fly.

3rd run came on a past ball/wild pitch

4th run came on an infield bunt, where the 3B just had to turn and tag the silsbee base runner.  Great bunt by that kid tho.

this was the game I saw.....Silsbee was very aggressive and capitalized on almost every mistake Shepherd committed.  Very impressed, would have been easy to sit back and watch Tyler do his thing and nobody would have thought another thing about it. Yes several tigers got their K turned in but most battled and had way longer at bats than I expected, they made him throw a lot of pitches.  Good luck to the Tigers as they move on.

  6. Both teams seem to bring out the best of each other, hopefully this game will do the same.  BC is clearly the favorite and has all the pressure on them.  Buna has nothing to lose and a lot to prove to themselves and the district.  BC is playing for the first seed in district and Buna the fourth, it is more of a must win for BC to maintain their objective.  I want Buna to win of course but want see good baseball more.

  7. Looking for pick-up utility player to cover games here and there in month of April.  Permanent position possibly available for right fit.  Looking to add fast outfielder/big bat ..... who isn't right??  If interested just email me here and I will get info to team manager.  Must be 16 or younger as of Jan1 this year.

  8. It was a very good early season test for both.  Other than BC, Buna hasn't really been tested this preseason from anybody on the mound.  I realize Silsbee was the favorite, they definitely earned their ranking.  It was a great game to watch, both made their mistakes, both capitalized on the other's mistakes, and both made some terrific plays.  Very similar to last year's battle @ Buna between same two teams, this time Buna came up on top.  This time, Buna was the better team.  Games like these only make both teams stronger and helps one or both get ready for post-season.  My hope is Buna will be in that mix this year.  Good job boys!!
