  1. For the record, I did say "my understanding is...."    I also would not classify this post as "recruiting."   And I did try to call you a week or more ago and left messages asking for a call back, but did not hear back from you.   There was only one day left for sign-ups and it was just a simple request to see if girls could play together in recreational 5 & 6 year old softball.   If that's the way it works, then sweet.   I like it.

    See you at the fields...
  2. Lumberton Little League sign-ups are tomorrow (Saturday, February 5th) at Walmart from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m.   My understanding is that the Lumberton Little League for 6U has typically split all the girls up evenly amongst all the teams and mix them up with the boys for tee ball baseball.   If you are signing your daughter up, and are interested in her playing with an "all girls team," please write that on your registration form.    Two coaches from the Out Of Control Select Softball (Mitchell/Swisher) will volunteer to take the all girls team if the LLL Program will allow it.

We also have talked with the ASA District Commissioner and a local ASA Program, and may opt to also get this team registered with ASA District 39 to play in a few of the local ASA District 39 6U Softball tournaments (all in the golden triangle area).

Please call me if you are interested in this opportunity, or have any questions.

    Darren....

Thanks to everyone who has replied and you as well Troy M.

You are correct that no one told ME no. In the PAST (other boards) have said NO (not to me) to the idea of having ASA out there. I was simply coming on here to ask to see if I could get any type of info to submit to you guys. I was not trying to bash the board or put you guys in a negative light at all. The Board when I showed up and asked was very receptive to the idea and I appreciate that.

Has anyone gone through it or is anyone setup in this way (LL Boys and ASA Girls) at the same complex. I would like to know how they handle this at there ball parks.  Does PN or Vidor share fields with LL and ASA if so what is there arraingment just as Troy M stated.

Troy M, I will give you a call tomorrow. Thanks.

"Troy, I think this is a confusing post.  On one hand you say "the board has said no," then in another post you said they didn't tell "you" no.   But whatever....   I do agree with your post and it sounds like the the board is open to the idea and just looking for someone to take some ownership and run with it.   So looks you have the bean now to work with the board to turn Lumberton Softball into ASA.  You now have ownership and lets' see what you do.  I for one agree with it.   The girls need to be in a league that's much more competitive.

  5. OOC-99 went through 5 pitchers throughout our journey this week and went 6-2 and were finally put out tonight.  Great run by the girls.  Unsure of placement but we made it to the top 16 and went out before the elite 8.  Coaches and parents were proud of their play and all they've accomplished this past year.
  6. For the 10U's we have the A and B here this week, but there's only about 15 teams playing A, versus 70 in the B.  This place is very hectic with about 3000 ball players in town with the some of the older age groups here as well.  But it's a blast as well.  Hopefully the seaweed will ease up for you when you are here.   We had one day of clear blue beach, then the green came in.
  7. Tiger - nice points and I don't take issue with them.  I'd love to see this area keep sending some of the younger teams to Houston and do well (8U - which we need and don't have in this area, and 10U).  And Houston's 8U's and 10U's are very competitive - it's a different world compared to what a lot of our girls at the younger ages are use to.  We'll need all the talent we can get to compete at those ages (including strong young pitchers for 10U - If anyone knows of one, I need her for August).  So it was just a consideration.

I moved from Houston and know that at those younger age groups it's less common in Select to see kids play up, and I think that does lend to the competitiveness of Houston (I don't know what they are feeding some of those 10 year olds, but they are huge).  Not a cookie cutter and I agree with you that there are some that are ready for the move up, it's just less common from what I've seen in Houston with the younger age groups.  A year makes a big difference in size and coordination at the younger ages (7-10).  If it were me with a 2000, I'd have to consider both options knowing there's not a lack of competitiveness and growth in 10U (we are going against Houston pitchers routinely throwing 50-56 fastballs at 35 feet with a mess of different pitches - just an example of how challenging (and fun) that age group is).

Irregardless, let's just get the younger GT girls on a field playing...
  8. LU, I'd encourage you to consider keeping your 2000 in 10U.  Reason - the Houston Select Talent of the top teams is amazing.  And we need the best 2000's we can get to be a top force against them.  At this age (8U and 10U in particular), in Houston, you don't see many playing up versus playing their age.  Out Of Control will have tryouts in August to build a new 10U-2K team.  The current 10U team of '99's will be moving up to 12U in August, and they proved to be extremely competitive versus Houston talent.  And we did it by recruiting the best we could find at the time.  Please e-mail me and I'll let you know of our 10U try-out times if you are interested.

  9. For 10U, we practiced the majority of the time in Beaumont at the City Fields, and some at Ford Park.  Sometimes we would also practice in Lumberton on the weekends.    For 12U, we will likely do Beaumont City Fields during the week, and Lumberton on the weekends.  But some of that depends on the make-up of the team (where the kids are from, what's easiest, etc.).

I currently have players from Beaumont, Nederland, Vidor, Port Neches, Lumberton, Humble, and Kingwood.  So we are strung out a bit between Beaumont and Houston.

We played nearly all of our tournaments in Houston, except the larger Beaumont Select Tournaments (Future Stars Over Texas and the State Tournament (4th place).
