  1. Great post, beaumontballer. I am sure you will take some flack from your Lumberton buddies, but it was a great post nonetheless. If I were a Lumberton fan, I would want to stay low key. Obviously the majority of posters do not think they are the best in the district. It would make it that much sweeter for the fans if they shock the world. But, when fans get on here and hype them up, it sets the team up for failure and a lot of crow to be eaten by those posting. Stay low key, win some games, make the playoffs, then talk some smack. You can't just go straight to the last one! Respect is earned.

With that said, I think Lumberton is a much improved ball club and *could* compete for a playoff spot. But, I like many others need to see them play a team that dosn't suck to gauge a real opinion on their defense. I know their offense is good, it always has been.

  2. If PN-G solved their offensive woes and went back to the old "bread and butter", then Johnson will not get a lot of chances. He did not do much in the spread and will do less if they run the ball 85% of the time like they have the past 5 years. No doubt he is a good WR, but he might be underutilized now that the spread has failed them.

  3. you obviously dont know whos out there practicing and getting a heck of a lot better.

Actually, Deaver is practicing more than ever right now. I have seen him out at LU playing at night against a few LU players. I was told he lost last night to Chema(Emanuel Olivier LU #4 singles) 7-6 6-1. I saw him playing him again tonight but do not know who won or what the score was. He is playing against a lot better players than he will play against this high school season and is holding his own. I don't see anyone in the local high school tennis scene posing a serious threat to him this season.

  4. Rushing yards vs. Nederland this season...

Brenham 131 yards (this team had a huge line and a couple of capable backs, their QB was not much of a running threat but a true pocket passer(166 passing yards)

Forest Brook  41 yards (30 of these came on one play when their RB got loose for a TD. This team has no offensive line, but I wish we had their tailback. If he had some blocking he would be dangerous. Also, their QB was no passing threat(20 passing yards)

Waller  318 yards (most of these were long runs by the QB who was very elusive, they also had two other big strong backs that ran behind a physical offensive line. They averaged around 7 yards per rush and in my opinion this team will be able to run the ball every week. They ran for 204 against Lamar Consolidated who has a very good D and for 367 yards against Bay City. Without the LOOOONNNGGG runs by the QB, I'd say we held them to 2-3 yards per rush, but I know that those long runs count too!)

Nederland has allowed 18 points per game on average. 163 ypg on the ground. 84 ypg thru the air.

I am happy with our defense thus far. If we can keep from giving up big plays then this defense will be a force. I hope everyone subscribes to the theory that we are soft up the middle because that couldn't be further from the truth in my opinion. I actually think that is our major strength on D. Our passing stats look really good, but we have yet to face an elite passing attack.

  5. from the footage on the news, the mongrels got lucky and caught some breaks. brenhams secondary was afraid to make a mistake and it killed them. enjoy being 3-0. time to start district. nederland will lose to ozen, central, dayton, and lc-m. have a wonderful basketball season.

I'd say we are underdogs vs. Dayton and Central more than likely. But, I like our chances against LC-M and Ozen who are both having problems scoring. We were VERY fortunate to win vs. Waller and Brenham for that matter after our QB got hurt. But, I think both of those teams would be in the thick of things in 22-AAAA.

  6. The week before we allowed about 70 total yards for the game! The level of competition stepped up this week and in turn so did the yards allowed. Waller had a really good running attack and had great success between the 20's. But, once they got into the red zone, the defense tightened up as most D's do vs. any kind of offense. The QB was really slick with his fake handoffs and fake pitches, he burnt us a few times. I like our D against a team with 1 or 2 RB threats or 1 QB threat. But, it is tough to stop a team with 3 threats in the backfield.. 2 RB's and 1 QB. Lucky for us that Waller did not throw the ball well. They really would have had us on our heels.

  7. Brenham has back-to-back wins against 5A Houston Yates and 5A Houston Lamar. That tells me the Nederland win over them was quality. Waller has a win over Bay City who beat WO-S this evening and a loss to a very strong Lamar Consolidated who returned the nucleus of a very strong offense and defense from last season. Forest Brook, well they pretty much suck.

The defense is not soft against the run. We did give up a few big plays last night, but I actually like it when teams run against us instead of passing. Our secondary has been solid thus far, but I trust our guys up front more than I do the safeties and corners. Waller had a triple headed rushing attack and we have always had problems with QB's that can run. Other than the QB, we did a good job on their backs in my opinion. We forced 7 fumbles and recovered 4 of them and scored two TD's. Sounds like a good game to me. Waller was much more polished on offense than we were and I was impressed with their size and speed. I think that district finish will be Brenham, Waller, and Caney Creek in that order.
