1. Martel with a steal and a lay-up to tie it at 11! Prudhomme with a steal and is shooting 2.

The Tigers win it there and Athens lost it there.  The key was when 10 left the game. No one else could handle the pressure.
Exactly, I could give you 2 reasons Athens lost this at the free throw line. Congrats to the Tigers!
 3.
I'm also going to stop commenting on Nederland's weaknesses. Let yall figure it out for next year. Cause if yall don't , yall in trouble  ;D
I think there is going to be a huge battle for the district title next year.  3 teams... evenly matched.... and stronger than they were the year before.  You guys are naive if you think Nederland won't be back in the mix next year.
 4.
Do they give Coach of the Year awards? Hands down Coach Neal @ HF. Great job Coach ;)
I would put Joubert in that running.  This was supposed to be a down season for Kountze, wasn't it?  And Sigler should get honorable mention. But yes, the HF coach really deserves it the most! Great season, HF, from a fan who didn't think you guys would EVER get there!

 6.
Stafford and Cleveland would have posed the same matchup issues with Silsbee last year.
Maybe.  I'm not sure if the stud from Stafford and the Beast from Cleveland were quite as good as Jones from Sealy.  Silsbee did have some height that could tangle with them. But we'll never know the answer, will we?

If you have a team full of 3 star players and 2 star players that have great chemistry with a great coach and a team that has one 4 or 5 star player and the rest are not that good but they don't have team unity, i will pick the team with good chemistry over the other.
Good point! And this is something that is overlooked at..... Dickie V alert!...... Yates.  I mean, Coach Wise has all these studs and he is able to keep the team together as a cohesive unit.  I mean, two years ago, weren't there some non-starters that went D1?!?!?  How do you convince a kid that knows he's a D1 talent that his role on the team will be coming off the bench?  Granted, Yates' bench is better than 99% of the rest of the state, but still.......
Yates is the lake travis of basketball. You just can't argue with it. I hate to admit it too cuz i know dickie is reading this and smiling lol.
RATS!!!! I feel like I just woke a dragon.....
 8.
Do you think they knew or believed that losing 4 in a row did not help or hinder  their chances one iota?
I'm sure they all knew that the last 4 games had nothing to do with last night's game.  There were probably only 1 or 2 players that had ever played HJ in the play-offs (I think Sean P and maybe Joe P were HJ's only ones with experience against Navasota).  But, when the chips are down, its easy for those nagging thoughts to resurface.... "Here we go again.  Same song, Fifth Freakin' Verse"!....  The key is to bury those doubts even deeper.
 9.

It's also breaks!  Bad refereeing, bad matchups, untimely mistakes, kids getting injured or sick, and as others have mentioned, peaking at the right time. Take Kountze!  Those guys found the right time to peak.  I think the same goes for Ozen. When you consider Matchups, Silsbee probably would have gone further last year if they would have been in the 2nd place bracket (and not run into Sealy).
Don't see anything easy about the route that HJ too last year.  Huffman, Stafford and then Cleveland!!!!  Sealy was the 2nd place team in District 24-3A last year.  Stafford was 1st!!!  Whom HJ defeated in the Area Round.  But I get your point.  Just saying that HJ's route last year was much tougher than what Silsbee had or would have had.
Agreed.  The last 3 or 4 years, HJ's road has been rockier to Hunstville on the whole.  But Silsbee ran into a poor matchup (from what I remember reading on these boards) against Sealy.
Considering what they achieved against Silsbee and HJ, they obviously deserved a ranking
Yes they did!
and you've got to admire their heart.  I mean, these kids are down what 15 points to a team that has knocked them out of the play-offs 4 of the last 5 years.  "Here we go again" is what a lot of teams would be thinking.  No, these kids kept on fighting.  Good effort by the Rattlers.
 12. This smiley makes sense to me!)

I'm curious to know others thoughts on this. Has anybody else noticed a change in coaching as well as playing as a team?
I think the fact that the football guys (Trey Green, Jakobe Jones, Terran Vaughn) have settled in at this point in the season, has a lot to do with that.
... other than that late season little snafu at Livingston, eh?
 14.
Agreed, as to road to 3rd round, both Central and KP made it there thru easy opposition. Friday night that changes.
Oh, I don't know.  I'm sure they can handle whoever they play.  Who is it anyway?...... oh...... nevermind.  :-\

 16.
There is no question that the Nederland Basketball program under the direction of Coach English has risen to new heights. It has been quite an amazing ride. I know that the success will continue into the future. Congrats to the Ozen Panthers on the quarterfinal win. coach Saveat took a nearly impossible job (following a legend) and is putting his own stamp on the program. Best of luck to the Panthers in the regional tournament.
Doesn't this make 2 straight Regional Tournaments?  That's impressive.
 17.

Surely you are not suggesting that a coach knows more than the players?  Also, using the coin flip theory, there is also no reason to shy away from a three just because you have missed three, right?
If I missed 3 3-pointers, I would be looking for a different way to contribute to the team effort.  I've seen gunslingers continue to throw them up until they hit, and personally I disagree with that.
I would do the same, but according to the "coin flip statistical model", if you are a three point shooter and miss three, you have the same chance on the next attempt as you would if you had made three .  But if you did as you said and looked for alternate ways to help, are you not confirming that there are factors involved that cannot be quantified by statistics?
I never compared 3-pointers to 3-point shooting.  I answered your question to someone ripping 3 3-pointers, should they take a 4th, and I said the chances are roughly the same as their typical 3-point shooting average... maybe even a little higher because they had the benefit of a little extra confidence. You brought up the very good warning of the weary legs.  My thoughts on that is that, after thinking about it more, that everyone's legs are probably more rubbery.  I'd rather have the guy with the hot hand shooting 3's than any other of my rubber legged bunch.
