5. [IMG][Hidden Content]] Here's to you Washington, care of Leroy Dobbins.....
 6. Fox Sports Interview This week, Friendswood’s defense faces a much more difficult challenge. It will have to devise a way to stop Montgomery running back Leroy Dobbins, who rushed for 216 yards and the game-winning touchdown against Dawson. “He’s a combination of J.J., Joseph Walton (Santa Fe) and (Tim) Wright (La Marque),” Van Meter said. “He can take it the distance, and he’s got the power of Walton. He reminds me of another back that was too small, Emmit Smith, look how that turned out." “He’ll touch it 35 times behind a good offensive line. Their quarterback throws the ball well, too.” Maetzold will have to decipher Montgomery’s confusing looks in an effort to produce points. “They present a unique challenge for us,” Van Meter said. “They’re not like anybody we’ve played. “You look at them up front on defense, and they’re not intimidating, but they are always in the right place at the right time and they are fast and strong." “They slant, they loop and they stunt every play. They’re a very well-coached team that knows their assignments. They will be our toughest challenge to date, we have to do our jobs or we're done. They force a lot of turnovers and errors. In 13 games they've only given up 179 points, Third in the state behind Cedar Park and Aledo. They are very underrated.” Van Meter concluded.
 7.
Here's my preview. Personally, I take Friendswood. One of the coahes mentioned to me the Montgomery's d-line was undersized and I think Friendswood will take advantage. Granted that line didnt make much of a difference against Dawson but F'Wood is even better than Dawson.
Everybody the Bears have faced in the playoffs, with the exception of Huntsville, were always "Bigger, Stronger, and faster" "Gonna send Montgomery home" "Same ole story every time........ Well here they go again, got to face "almighty" Friendswood........
 8. Offensive makes great stats and highlight reels.....but defense wins Championships!

How is the defense? Heard it's average. I picked Montgomery to win the region before the playoffs started so im sticking with it even though im a graduate of Friendswood.
Ask Pearland Dawson if they think the Defense is "average" First and Goal inside the five three times, denied... First and goal five times inside the the 10 yd line result two field goals. Yep average sounding to me.......

 11. [img][Hidden Content]] Playing for more than himself..... [img][Hidden Content]] Leroy Dobbins slipped by Pearland Dawson defenders on his way to a 13-yard touchdown with 41 seconds remaining to send a sea of purple into a frenzy! [img][Hidden Content]] A five-play, game on the line, down by 3 points, 70-yard drive that took only 58 seconds....... Believe the "Hype".......
 12. Montgomery and Dawson left nothing on the field. Dawson was filled with track stars that are good football players as well. They were some kind of fast. The Dawson coach did the smart thing, he had a chip shot field goal with a tie game and 1:40 on the clock left in the game. On three different occasions the Montgomery defense shut out the "Power I' of Dawson, it was forth and goal, he took the three. Montgomery got the ball back on their own 30 and ran Leroy Dobbins down the field 70 yards in less than a minute. Nothing fancy, double tight end formation just hand the ball to Leroy and the O-line made enough daylight, to get in the open, and he shrugged tacklers desperately trying to strip the ball. Touch down the crowd goes wild. They are not fancy, they just execute, Leroy needs six inches of daylight, they gave him a little more than that. Everybody the Bears have faced in the playoffs, with the exception of Huntsville, were always "Bigger, Stronger, and faster" "Gonna send Montgomery home" Well here they go again, got to face almighty Friendswood........
 13. By Keith MacPherson Assistant Sports Editor | 0 comments HUMBLE – Leroy Dobbins with a bloody lip and banged up hand slipped by Pearland Dawson defenders on his way to a 13-yard touchdown with 41 seconds remaining to send a sea of purple into a frenzy as the Bears advanced to the Region III-4A finals for the first time in school history. Dobbins’ score capped a five-play, 70-yard drive in which the senior tailback received all of the carries to lift the Bears to a 24-20 win over Dawson in Saturday’s Region III-4A playoff game at a packed Turner Stadium in Humble. “We found something that was working the drive before but we weren’t able to put it in,” Montgomery coach John Bolfing said. “So we decided to stay with it for that final drive until they stopped it and they weren’t able to do so. Our offensive line just took control and Leroy did his thing.” On the day, Dobbins had 208 yards on 31 carries and his game-winning touchdown despite missing two series in the late part of the third quarter with a hand injury. “Scoring that touchdown was the greatest feeling in the world,” Dobbins said. “I got hit on the hand with a helmet when I was fighting for yards but there wasn’t anything that was going to stop me. This is my senior year and I wanted to get back out there.” Montgomery (12-1) needed to drive the length of the field after Dawson took the lead on an 18-yard field goal from Rodolpho Rubio with 1:39 remaining. The Eagles opted for the field goal despite being on the Bears 1. “I was a little bit surprised (about the field goal),” Bolfing said. “They were probably thinking they just wanted to get the lead and try to hold us. Lucky for us they weren’t able to do so.” Dawson (8-5) rattled off 17 unanswered points to begin the second half to take the lead early in the fourth quarter. The Bears finally answered with 4:44 remaining in the game with a 20-yard field goal from Will Fox. The game was reminiscent to last season’s Region III-4A playoff loss with Crosby in which the Bears needed to score with less than a minute left in the game. In that game Montgomery came up short but this time the Bears came through in their final possession. “I told our guys before that last drive that ‘whatever happens you’ve done a great job, you have nothing to hang your heads about,’” Bolfing said. “We feel like we have worked hard and competed all year long and we were happy to be in a situation where we could win the game.” The first half of the game was highlighted by a series of gutsy calls from the Bears. In Montgomery’s opening drive the Bears converted two fourth downs including a 10-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Tyler Bolfing to Devon Gasaway that capped a 15-play, 80-yard drive. “They were very aggressive defensively,” Coach Bolfing said. “We felt like we could move the football on them in short yardage situations so we took our chances.” In its second possession, Montgomery continued to put the pedal to the medal with a flea flicker that went from Bolfing to Gasaway again but this time for a 55-yard touchdown. Bolfing finished 10 of 17 passing for 126 yards, two touchdowns and an interception while Gasaway had four catches for 75 yards. The Bears’ defense came up with a couple of big stops late in the first half including a goal line stand on their own 3 after Dawson drove 77-yards to try and make it a one score game. Dawson came up short again when trying to score before the half when Taylor Sanderson dropped back in zone coverage and picked off a pass from Eagle quarterback Garry Kimble. “I can’t say enough about our defense,” Coach Bolfing said. “Week after week, these guys come up with plays like that. They have done it all year and they continue to do it. That’s how you win close games like this.” Kimble was the game’s top passer with 240 yards while going 17 of 32 with two touchdowns and an interception. The first touchdown of the game for Kimble came on a play-action pass in which he found Mike Williams wide open for a 37-yard touchdown. The Eagles got another boost on the ensuing kickoff when Montgomery muffed the kick and a Dawson defensive back Antonio Brown jumped on the loose ball. Rubio would score on a 26-yard field goal seven plays later. Dawson’s final touchdown came on a swing pass from Kimble to Randall Weeks that went 20-yards. “The wheels kind of came off late,” Bolfing said. “We were able to put them back on and score some late ones.” Sophomore running back James White paced the Eagles running game with 22 carries for 139 yards. Dawson outgained Montgomery in total yards 438-338 – 261 of the Eagles’ yards came in the second half. Tyler Anderson gave the Bears a chance to put the game away early when he sacked Kimble in the first quarter on a third-down play that forced the Eagles to punt but Montgomery gave the ball back six plays later when Max Brown jumped on a Bear fumble. The Bears will next face Friendswood next Saturday at Rice Stadium at 7 p.m. with a spot in the Class 4A state semi-finals on the line. “This is what you work years for,” Coach Bolfing said. “It feels great. We are excited to get one more week to play and who knows what could happen.” Montgomery 24, Pearland Dawson 20
 14.

Leroy really didn't play a full game until the playoffs. Just didn't see any sense in overworking the knee necessarily. Check the box scores it's easy to see. Brenham was his first real game back from surgery, and his carry count was still limited to 28 touches. Huntsville got a half of him in the first round playoff, but he was pretty much turned loose on Crosby, carrying the ball 38 times for 325 yards and six touchdowns. The final three games of the season he carried the ball only 23 times for 332 yards, 14.43 yd/carry avg. and 6 TD's. He did that much in the Crosby game alone. I fully expect Dawson to get a good dose of him, and the minute the start cheating up too much in the box, Bolfing will burn them long to Gasaway and Peppe. People make a big deal about the size of Dawson. I'll tell you Crosby had the biggest O-line I've seen all year. #76 Cody Stephens @ RT is 6'9" 270#, #56 Clayton Calicutt at LT was 6'5" 255#, #77 Justin Walker @ LG was 6'4" 245#, #66 RG Kyle Lewis 6'1" 270#, and #60 Preston Harvey @ C 5'11" 220#, is a pretty good sized line if you ask me. The Bear D-Line pretty much ate their lunch. Merka was sacked 8 times and hurries were in double digits. They also had one forced fumble that resulted in a turnover. Not to mention holding Dominic Merka QB 6' 5" 220#to 71 yards on 18 carries far below his game avg.
No disrepect intended but you cant compare Dawson and Cougars Lite...they are 2 totally different teams on opposite ends of the spectrum when it comes to football. Also, those kids from Dawson have wheels to go along with their size and their DB's wont have a problem with deep threat balls. Now if you can get that hoss rolling then it will open up the passing game where you'll find more success on short, quick passes more so than the long ball. Dawson likes to smother running backs with #'s if they're a legitimate threat and try to stretch the play out vertically instead of horizontally for little to no gain. If you can run it down their throats you'll find better success than toss plays?
None taken. But if you look at the same films we are the Dawson O-Line is pretty sluggish out of the three point stance. #72 you can clock with a sundial, and their much heralded #77  isn't much faster. They get away with a ton of holding and illegal chop blocks. They cut block more than any team the Bears have faced, that's for sure. Pay close attention how that is dealt with. The Dawson Special teams will have to be dealt with very carefully. They are dangerous a heck in that category. If you have studied Montgomery, you'll notice they make their living between the hash marks, tends to neutralize that speed and turns it against them. And from the films I saw Manvel ran the bubble screen all over Dawson, and Friendswood passed all over them. So maybe they are a little more vulnerable than one might think. If Manvel would have fumbled the ball so many times the score would have been a lot worse. Fumbling is something the Bears don't do much of, and force a lot of turnovers, something Dawson is pretty prone to do. Not seeing the massive size everyone is talking about on the Eagle defense. They look to be fast in the open field, but they seem also to be easily confused by complex blocking schemes. You can see on their films a lot of running into each other and missed assignments when a good counter is presented or crossing routes. The corners play soft and off the ball, reason the bubble screen eats them up 10 and 15 yards a chunk. Montgomery runs a lot of zone read and several variations of the counter trey.
