  1. Leroy really didn't play a full game until the playoffs. Just didn't see any sense in overworking the knee necessarily. Check the box scores it's easy to see. Brenham was his first real game back from surgery, and his carry count was still limited to 28 touches. Huntsville got a half of him in the first round playoff, but he was pretty much turned loose on Crosby, carrying the ball 38 times for 325 yards and six touchdowns. The final three games of the season he carried the ball only 23 times for 332 yards, 14.43 yd/carry avg. and 6 TD's. He did that much in the Crosby game alone. I fully expect Dawson to get a good dose of him, and the minute the start cheating up too much in the box, Bolfing will burn them long to Gasaway and Peppe. People make a big deal about the size of Dawson. I'll tell you Crosby had the biggest O-line I've seen all year. #76 Cody Stephens @ RT is 6'9" 270#, #56 Clayton Calicutt at LT was 6'5" 255#, #77 Justin Walker @ LG was 6'4" 245#, #66 RG Kyle Lewis 6'1" 270#, and #60 Preston Harvey @ C 5'11" 220#, is a pretty good sized line if you ask me. The Bear D-Line pretty much ate their lunch. Merka was sacked 8 times and hurries were in double digits. They also had one forced fumble that resulted in a turnover. Not to mention holding Dominic Merka QB 6' 5" 220#to 71 yards on 18 carries far below his game avg.

  3. Oh, well I though when you insinuated that you "cover alot (sic) high school football games/boards/mags..." that you were with the media. Well I think it's great that you support the kids, if you read through this board carefully, you'll find a thread I started addressing that very issue. Being semi-retired, I devote most of my time to supporting My youngest son in his final years in High School and on to A&M from here, and he so happens to be a teammate of Leroy Dobbins, and I have had the pleasure of getting to know Leroy on a more personal level than most I guess. I don't rely on "Media" to judge talent, usually video tape during film reviews, or actually watching them play at a game. And through working with camps and combines I have been allowed the privileged of getting a little more insight into what makes some of these future stars tick. I judge players on a lot more than just raw talent and god given athletic ability.  I look at them both on and off the field, character is a big deal in my book. And in my honest opinion team balance and scheme is going to be the big factor in the latter rounds of the playoffs. A one man band is flashy and puts up great number for that person, but teamwork and balance will make it in the long hall. Stats don't mean a hill of beans when that first quarter gun sounds. Then it's all about execution, effort and shear determination, till the last tick falls off the clock. The work has been done in all the practices, the plans have been made, and all the films have been reviewed again and again. Come Saturday it will be up to those kids to get a hat on a hat, and play lights out football, for 48 minutes, winner take all. And whoever your home team is I hope they do well....... But please know that not everybody that enjoys this sight, or many of the others, is just some homer that has no clue and is just "punching the keys"; because a mind is a terrible thing to waste......

It must be happy hour where you're at, and someone best take your keys. Leroy Dobbins is so far from "Hyped" you'd have to measure it with a laser range finder and a prism. Leroy is the least talked about back in the state, all anyone hears is Malcolm Brown, Jonathon Gray, KC Nlemchi, Quandre Diggs. Tim Wright, etc etc. Leroy stays under the radar, and just delivers on game day.  Don't drink and drive please. [/quote]No happy hour and I cover alot high school football games/boards/mags... and if you haven't heard the hype surrounding Dobbins maybe you should stay out of the bar and get into this sport.  By the way I haven't seen Tim Wright hyped at all.  Until he came out hard this year.  Dobbins has been on magazine covers etc... along with the others you mentioned.  Come with facts, don't just sit around punching keys.  You must be smoking if you play down the hype Dobbins has been given the past two seasons.  But he has deserved every single bit of it.  Great kid, running in a great system.  [/quote] Magazine Covers? Do tell there Mr Sports Reporter.  And by the way there hotrod, I have presented nothing but facts. Get involved? Have been for many years as both a player and coach. You're definitely not Derek Dusek, Matt Malatesta or Randy McIlvoy, I know them pretty well. And I'd be willing to bet you're not Jenny Dial, Sam Khan, Dustin Porterfield, Neal Farmer, Forrest Robeck, Randy Byers, Doug Johnson, or Dana Roarke, and I spoke with Travis (Stewart) yesterday and I'm sure you're not Stew. So I guess I'll have to look around a little more closely at the combines for a Fatmaverick.......

  6. Travis Stewart: Montgomery vs. Dawson is a GREAT match up. Depends on who gets the better defense. Dawson has an inflated win last week against an over-matched HISD team. I like Montgomery there, but it's a shootout and a close one, I think. Montgomery 49-48.
  7. A lot of options still out there. He actually has solid offers from San Angelo State and TSU as well. But the cream of the crop still have above medium interest, still kinda in a holding pattern. His performance in these playoffs are really turning heads. The scouts were at large against Crosby and I am sure there will be many at Turner Saturday. He had knee surgery in Week Two and I really think it gave a few some apprehension. But he's been busting off three hundred yarders since, so we'll see.
  8. Please take a minute and go vote for Leroy Dobbins as Dave Campbell's player of the week for week 12. [Hidden Content] Thanks
  9. Leroy reminds me of Tony Dorsett with his vision, elusive speed, and the ability to turn on a dime and not break stride. He's at full speed in a step. He's been clocked at a 4.39, but thing about that is, he does that in pads. One step and he's gone, and can still lower his head and finish off that run. He hangs on to the ball, another plus, and he is deceptively strong. If you saw him in the weight room, you'd really be in aw! This kid is the real deal. Honestly, Pearland Dawson is going to have to come up with something other than a run game. Run defense is the Bears strength, their defense is on the small side, but they all are strong and fast. Speed is the key to their success. Offense sells tickets and makes the highlight reels, but defense wins championships. I think Montgomery has a pretty good blend of both. Dawson better do their homework, because the Beards are doing theirs. They are i films right now, and watching for any "tell" they can pick up on. Man on man, hat on hat...........lights out football is all the Bears know!
  10. Please take a minute and go vote for Leroy Dobbins as Dave Campbell's player of the week for week 12. Most of you know the kid or at least know who he is, he's just a really deserving player, on and off the field. [Hidden Content] Thanks
  11. They are JV players that were moved up to Varsity for the playoffs.
  12. [IMG][Hidden Content]] This is what I am talking about. How far is it from Crosby to Galena Park? 10 miles? 2nd round of the playoffs really?
  13. Still uploading but here's the album. 1710 photos takes a while, especially since these are hi res and about 7 mb per photo. [Hidden Content]
  14. [IMG][Hidden Content]] This is what makes Leroy such a special kid. No taunting, no Shuck and Jive, not so much as a high five. He has a greater cause to to celebrate. This is the way he celebrates a touchdown EVERY TIME.
  15. Yes was at the game and had my hands full, and unable to post. Phone was in the truck, posted the final in the other thread as soon as I got back to it. Shot 1700 plus pictures, will be uploading to photobucket tonight, will post a link for any that want pics, Crosby fans too. got plenty of action shots for both sides.
