Your story reflects what's best in you & your teammates, as well as what's best in your & all of our communities in SE TX. Thanks for posting & for the break in the trash talking. You remind us what the game is all about: learning sometimes painful life lessons and persevering. Good luck young man!

I, for one, have been surprised by the lack of explosive offense by Coldspring. I know that there have been injuries and illnesses with O players. It makes me wonder how deep CS is and how solid their O line is. After all, this is a new O line this year, used to playing inferior teams in district (with the exception of Huffman). I hope they are learning each week and becoming stronger. I know that defense wins championships, but you've got to score points. I support you CS as the representative of 22 3-A. I hope everyone is healthy and that you have a great game Friday night!

Am I not right? In Texas if a student is charged with a felony, the superintendent is notified by local law enforcement agencies, and the student goes to DAEP, therefore not allowed to participate in extracurriculuar activities.

So, it may be east of the Trinity vs the west in a couple of weeks. I'm hoping WOC & Coldspring meet...will be the game of the week on this forum.

I wouldn't have given EC a shot at this early in the season, but these kids play smart and play with such heart. Their continued progress has made me a believer, and I believe they found a new coach who may be as good as Taylor. Go Bucs!

Taylor as in coach Taylor of the 70's and 80's ? Just asking.
Sorry, I was living in the past. I meant Evans, not Taylor. Thanks for correcting me. -

Here's some of Coldspring's pre-season games..
Kirbyville
Tarkington
Shepherd
Splendora
Cleveland
* some of theses teams are in a rebuilding year...I wouldn't call this a real tough schedule... ;D ;D ;D ;D
All the teams listed above, with the exception of Kirbyville, are in Coldspring's district and are not preseason games. The only real competition for CS in their district was Huffman. CS starters seldom saw second half action, which could have put them at a disadvantage in postseason. Maybe that's why their offense didn't put the expected points on the scoreboard, not trying to take anything away from Bridge City's defense, who did a very good job. -
Franklin
Montgomery
Navasota
Coldspring
West Orange-Stark
Newton
East Chambers
Corrigan-Camden

Tarkington wins in 4.

Nice post Pirate Pride. That's what every coach should aspire to do. But, what if the bodies of the Js & Js do not develop into 220 lbs.? Or if they are slow? Will any amount of motivation make them larger or faster? I do believe that a good coach can get so much more out of kid than the kid realizes he can do, but reality slaps the kid in the face when he can't keep up or is run over. But, I like your attitude and can-do spirit. It's what we should all believe--sorry to be such a cynic.

If they are as undisciplined and vanilla as everyone says, I don't see them putting 21 on the Chain Gang. Then again, who knows?
Well, it depends on WOS's D. Can they stop the big play because Cleveland does have some big plays in 'em-- like said -- if they get a glimmer of confidence. Just because #7 is strong & fast, I think they will break for 3 TDs. But WOS's defense could make a liar out of me. -
The second half was played with as much class, as a coach could possibly do.
Does class mean having most starters play the 4th Q? Yes, Tarkington was no match for Cleveland, so I wouldn't call trying out playoff moves against Tarkington an excuse for running up the score. Had the whole 2nd, 3rd team been in like CS did, that's using as much class as a head coach can. Even so, I wish the Indians luck against WOS. -

Winning and losing are both habits.... Good coaches instill good work habits (ethics) and attitudes, great coaches instill great work ethics and attitudes...losers not so much...Show me a program that consistently produces winning results (not just making the playoffs), and I'll show you a good coach with great talent or a great coach with good talent regardless of the X's and O's...When you get the years where a great coach has great talent you get Champions...
I completely agree that winning becomes a habit. I've seen teams, not necessarily with superior athletes, refuse to lose because their team has a habit of winning. That has a lot to do with Xs and Os, but that habit is already instilled in those kids through tradition and expectations. -
Congrats to Cleveland for making the playoffs, and though they have some good athletes, there's something undisciplined about them. They have been inconsistent in games but have improved throughout the year. I don't, however, think they are a match for WOS. 42-21 WOS is my prediction.

Tarkington 32 District JV Champs
Cleveland 16
Tarkington fields almost all freshmen. Looking forward to seeing these guys when mature into varsity players. Cleveland had some huge kids on JV & some strong running backs. Good game!

Really Tarkington beat Coldspring with freshman? I find that hard to believe.
I heard someone on a thread here say that Coldspring pulled up all their upperclassmen and played Tarkington with freshmen only. I can't confirm that, but I suspect it. -
