can someone explain why most of the state championships in football and baseball come from central, west or northeast texas. and a majority of the D1 talent comes from east texas.
The majority of D1 talent comes from Houston and Dallas.

This is a true statement, especially Metro Houston &/or the. D/FW Metroplex.

How about the two baytown schools losing BH , Dayton and Crosby to travel to galveston, pearland, friendswood, texas city and santa fe.  Talk about some late night travels!  All three baytown schools are getting hosed. Sterling was about 200 kids shy of moving to 4a while lee had room for 500-600 more kids while staying 4a. Doesnt make sense.

REL was the southern most school in the current 19-4A alignment. The UIL looked to replace Manvel and there was REL as the "best" fit geographicaly. GCM must go where REL goes.

In two years the only thing that would change that is if GCM has 5A numbers (or possibly RSS has 4A numbers. Not happening). The UIL has said you cannot have 3 classifications in a school district. SO, even if REL drops to 3A numbers, GCM must have some growth or RSS must drop in enrollment. If not, REL will have to play 4A with 3A numbers.

I noticed that Houston ISD has schools in 5A, 4A and 3A.  I was surprised to see that.

Coach James Sykes (Cleveland ISD) is not Jerrell Sykes' daddy. I think Coach Sykes is Jerrell's uncle. Jerrell's dad was a great athlete too.

I don't think Alfred Scott and Pharnell (sp?) Scott are closely related; however, they may be.
That's correct...James Sykes is Jerrell's uncle...Gerald Sykes is Jerrell's dad and James brother...Gerald is the guy in Coldspring that has run the youth football and basketball leagues for years...James played college ball at Rice and then was drafted by Washington Redskins and ended up being a allstar in the CFL...

Not sure about Alfred Scott and James Scott (Pharnell)...I'll have to ask about that...I don't think they are, however, I wouldn't be surprised if they were somehow as it seems as if everyone is related to someone in Coldspring.. :)

Colton Monroe is another kid on the team with NFL and CFL ties...His grandfather (the late Jimmy Edwards) was a OU signee out of high school in Oklahoma before transferring out and being a All American at Louisiana Monroe....His grandfather was MVP of CFL (same award Doug Flutie & Warren Moon won) and I believe led the NFC in kickoff return yards one year in late 70's with the Minnesota Vikings....

Then you have Gilbert whose brother is a great player for OSU right now and as I've heard several times is the fastest player on their campus...

Those are some of the connections that I know of...Heck there might be a few more that I haven't heard about but it's not bad for a little 3a school out in the woods... ;)

Not bad at all & it helps explain why CS has had good or great teams over the years.

I figured who ever win 22-3a would win a state title...I think I figured right

CS has to get by another opponent to get to the championship game, but after seeing these guys play tonight, you just might be right.  I'm really glad their offense came alive again tonight.  Good luck to the Trojans!
  6. Dang, Ryker is asking a lot of good questions that people in the know are not answering.  Ryker, the only one I feel competent enough to post on is the coaching edge.  I think Thompson is filling big shoes pretty well, but Barbay is more experienced and has State Championship game experience, which logically gives him the edge.  This Friday will tell.  I have to retrack to say that I was not overly impressed with Barbay's coaching at last year's title game, but Carthage was head and shoulders above CS last year.
