Trust me I wasn't talking about you or any of the Tarkington fans. If you read many of the threads on here you will see a few people that talk about their team kicking everyone's butt and so on and on and on and on. In our district we cannot hardly "have any discussion" without some of these guys taking over the thread with 20 pages of posts about how they are gonna beat everyone down. I haven't seen Tarkington play in several years. Our team is not very big this year but we have some speed and our kids will always play hard. We are proud of our team and coaching staff because of the way they play and act on and off the field. What is Tarkington looking like this year??

Watched this game on Channel 57...it was nice to see 22-3A players working together. Public schools 28, private 7. Congrats to Coach Carpenter and staff! It's great to see small school players featured in the Houston market. Nice job GHFCA!

I foresee our local 3A (4A) districts to be something like this:
Division I
Bridge City
Silsbee
WO-S
Huffman
Splendora
Cleveland
Jasper
Division II
Hamshire-Fannett
Hardin-Jefferson
Orangefield
Liberty
Tarkington
Coldspring
Shepherd
I expect Buna to drop down a classification

I agree your D1 is full of strong teams, but, with the exception of stand-out Coldspring, this D2 will be competitive. These D2s haven't been able to compete with the larger schools, again the exception being CS. That's the whole reason for having two divisions. I like it. Now, I agree with other posters that 4 teams going to the playoffs is ridiculous. -
What a good game! Congrats Bucs!!
-
IMHO, Coldspring will dominate and be the only 22-3A team to advance.

Congratulations to the Lady panthers and to Coach Slack! You had a great run!

This could be a good game, but I wonder what the loss last week will do to Shepherd's confidence. We'll see. Cleveland's defense may be the difference. Good luck to both teams.

I will agree the kids do play hard and give effort. Correct me if I'm wrong...most small schools have their better freshmen and sophomore on varsity so its hard to judge the JV teams. It just seems the progress is talked about but doesn't show on the field. It sure didn't take Shepherd long to turn it around.

Ha comparing Tarkington to any school in the state let alone district doesn't really apply. Shepherd has had good seasons before, heck they were mighty competitive a few years back. Tarkington to the best of my knowledge is fighting the uphill climb of historically never even making the playoffs (at least to the best of my knowledge, if someone knows of them making the playoffs please do tell).

This group of kids were on their way to improvement, when the old, losing mindset crept in after big losses to strong teams, Coldspring and Cleveland. They will have to find a way out of that attitude to find a measure of success, but I always like to believe it can happen, especially to a long-time underdog. -

Let me answer your questin with a question. Do you believe that coldsprings having 1/2 the enrolment makes it as far as they do on ability alone or is coaching a big part of there record?
[/quote]
I don't have a dog in the hunt, but as good a coach as Barbay is, CS is good because the boys are faster and bigger than anyone else in 22-3A, no matter their enrollments. Barbay brings strong discipline & consistency that enables the players to showcase their strengths. Good luck to Huffman, Cleveland & Shepherd in their last 2 games.
