If Tarkington girls win the whole shebang at YMBL, it will be Coach Denise Johnson's 400th career win. Got to get by E. Chambers for small school championship plus win the game between large school/small school. Will it happen today?
-
Is KW Park that good, or is Huffman playing badly?
-
12-0 half Kountze
20-0 FINAL SCORE
Kountze--prepared for Tarkington's offense and ran with their big guy. Tarkington--flat on both sides of the ball. Where was the Tarkington team that played so well against Hardin last week? -
From what I've heard about that Tarkington game, if any of you Hardin fans need a nitro pill I'd be willing to sell ya one of mine. ;) :D
Raideroldtimer, I was sitting on the Tarkington side, and I needed your nitro pill. But I want to compliment the Hornet fans. More than a few greeted Tarkington players and told them "Good game." Class! -
..."it seems there is always a little "home field" bias at least when it comes to enthusiasm. did somebody say they were actually calling formations? i guess i better start paying better attention" Yep, I think you better play closer attention. High school announcers are all biased, and this one was no different, but calling plays--don't think so--cheerleader, definitely. Hardin and Tarkington both played great games...more exciting for Tarkington because they are unaccustomed to success...maybe you can't blame the announcer's enthusiasm for the home team.
Hardin had a very effective passing game. #5 was a great athlete. But, Tarkington's running game was also effective. They kept the ball out of Hardin's hands, which kept the score even. I agree with the posting that it was hard to tell who was carrying the ball for T-team. The official's clock definitely made a difference in the W/L, but it was an exciting game. I wish both teams a good season. -
Let's change the tenor of this thread! Which team in this tournament has been the biggest surprise?
-
Gotta' hand it to Newton--holding D-field to 27 points. Good try Eagles. I look for Daingerfield to win State.

Koko Smith had 14 carries for 168 yards, 5 TD's. Averaged 12 yards a carry.
Is that all? I thought he rushed for 300 yards last night--not really--but it seemed like he broke every run for a touchdown.
EC, great season! You came a long way, so be proud of your accomplishments. -
I'm pulling for you too Newton. Daingerfield's defense didn't impress me as much as their offense. Wow! They have some awesome runners--never quit running. #25 Koko?--he was a little guy but he hid amongst their tall linemen and spurted through the line--really fast, really fast. But, if Newton's defense is quick and can hold on to those slippery runners, Newton can win. Good luck !

I think 23-2A will stay the same
Anahuac
Buna
Deweyville
East Chambers
Hardin
Kountze
Warren

I wouldn't count on that!
I agree, this District will be changed.
Won't it have to change? I understood that 2-A is changing to big-school/small-school alignments. I've not checked enrollments on these schools, but I'm guessing some are much smaller than others. -
What a tribute to the character of these young men! We do have some really fine young people--nice to see the word get out.

EC I don't know what the out come will be in this game but don't worry about that (neither does anyone else)...Believe in yourself, represent your district well, play like a champion...Then....You Are A Champion..(regardless of the out come)..Good Luck ...!!!!

Amen to that! -
K-ville--good luck representing SE Tx.
-
Let's face it...D-field puts their pants on just like the rest of us...one leg at a time. Okay, so they have bigger pants and can jump in them faster...EC's heart is big and they will give D-field a game.

Anyone know the location this game will be played at?

I heard Saturday, Lufkin, 7:30 pm -
Okay, today I heard of a mascot that could easily be considered insensitive. A kid checked into our school from Freeburg, Illinois, home of the Mighty Midgets. So, I ask him why the Midgets, and he said that quite a long time ago, the Freeburg HS basketball team went to the State playoffs, and the press called them the fighting midgets because all the BB players were less than 5'4" tall. The students liked the name so much, they adopted it as the mascot, and they probably changed "fighting" to "mighty" for alliterative effect. Mighty Midgets--wonder if there's a thread up in IL criticizing that community.

The most talented sophomore I've seen this year is Matt Davis, QB from Klein Forest. He ran for 168 yds and threw for 297 this past weekend against The Woodlands--not too shabby. Of course, he may be too far west to qualify for this thread, but keep an eye on this young man.
-
Was at Woodlands-Klein Forest game--was a heck of a game. I expected The Woodlands to run all over KF, and thought after the first half they would, but KF's quarterback was phenomenal and brought them back to a tie at the end of regulation. TW scored first in OT, and KF scored quickly too, only to miss the extra point...felt so sorry for KF kicker. Evenly matched teams--great game!

Andy is doing fine as HC/AD at Tatum...they played Center tonight in round one, but lost out. Tatum is down on talent this year, but Andy will have them back....if he doesn't wind up somewhere in SETX next season...... ;)

Is Hill Guy being cryptic or wishful? -
Good post True Fan !
-
Oh man, Mart is always good, but good luck Evadale.
-
Buna has had a good season, but Newton will put it to an end--handily.
-
I enjoy the trash-talking before a game--that's just a way to psyche each other out, and you should be a proud supporter of your school and by extension your AAA district. But what I'm reading on this thread is classless--sounds like ungracious winners and ungracious losers.
The truth is Cleveland and Coldspring are powerhouses in a weaker district than WOS's and Silsbee's district. 21AAA is always competitive, but so are Coldspring and Cleveland. -

Cleveland advocate??? not most reliable source!!!!!!
was not the source channel 13 was. you coaches get the jock sniff out and pay attention. get in the game.
Channel 13 often uses local newspapers, such as the Cleveland Advocate, as its sources--and gives them credit for this on air. Perhaps, the Advocate, which like most papers likes to stir up controversy, jumped the gun, without getting all facts. And remember, school districts cannot give information on students, so teachers/employees take the brunt of controversial stories--just to be on the safe side.
This all sounds too weird--like there is so much more to the story. I'm guessing these coaches, even though reinstated, won't be able to coach in the playoff game???
I finally figured out why some teams will never win!!! The parents!!!!

Do you think this attitude, which I undertand, is a product of all the pee-wee, Little League organizations--where everyone gets to play and everyone get a medal/trophy?
