  1. I don't know if he is dishonoring the game, but he isn't helping his image. But contracts with all the stipulations and clauses have been going on for quite some time. When Bonds got to SF, he had a clause in his contract that gave him his own personal room in the clubhouse with a big screen TV and a recliner that nobody could go into unless he said so. There are many little tidbits in contracts that seem unnecessary, but it caters to the players to get them to sign more easily. Dice-K's contract is insane. He gets paid flights back and forth to Japan for him to visit, and for his family to visit the states, unlimited flights I think. He gets his own personal interpreter, and tons of other stuff I can't even remember. Everything about contracts in baseball is getting out of hand.

  2. First of all how am i an embarrasment to westbrook when im not even in school!!! I dont even live within 30 minutes of that school... and i dont care if you like my posts!!! its my opinion!! So keep your comments to yourself .

If you cannot take people commenting about you, then you need to keep your ignorant comments to yourself. Don't be a hypocrite. If you want to bad mouth a team or person, expect to be bad mouthed yourself. It is their opinion of you, so if you cannot take it then keep YOUR comments to yourself.

  3. I hope you aren't thinking that I'm accusing you all of being arrogant because I, personally, think people have underestimated the baseball team.  I agree with what you've said in all aspects.

No, I'm not aiming that at you. You haven't posted anything negative. I'm not saying everyone thinks that about Vidor. Most people who comment do it with bad intentions, but not all.

  4. The way I see it vhs is, when people scan through and see "Vidor" on a thread, they have to post something to try and run us down. It has always been that way, people are too ignorant to keep comments to themselves and they think by saying that we think we are "underestimated" this year we are being arrogant. They let their schemas about Vidor take over. Maybe someday it will change.

The team is off to a great start. Coach Green is a great coach, his first year there was my senior year. He really helped me on the field a lot and works one on one with all the kids. I used to let my emotions get the best of me on the field, until Coach Green got here. He showed me how to control my emotions, and it helped me be a better player. Good luck the rest of the way.

  5. I've been at Lamar for a number of years and the football discussions pop up every  3 years or so. After soccer and softball are in place, then maybe the people in power will sit down and see if a football program won't lose money. I have always heard that recruiting local talent would help the football program, and those comments hold some merit.

There is/was also some local talent on the basketball team but I don't see our arena packed with fans.  But I do remember years ago when the women basketball team in their heyday played UT and the Montagne was packed. Too bad the UT. UofH, and A&M alums in the area won't put pressure on the programs to play Lamar. Hmmm, oops!? I'm one of those alums.....

The thing is that Southeast Texas is football crazy. Yeah the basketball team may have some local kids, but it just isn't the same fan base as football. People would go to the games just to have fun and watch some football. I've been to some McNeese St. games and it is crazy on gameday. I attend Lamar and I see a lot of guys who I use to play football with and against. If Lamar gets smart and brings back the football program, they will be raking in the cash.

  6. I don't understand why he can no longer represent the league. He is entitled to free speech so I think it is unjust what the NBA did to him. You can't fire him because of something he said, you may be able to fine him, but fire him...come on. People say stuff that may offend other people all the time, but they don't get let go from their job. That is just my opinion I guess.

  7. The fact is this, Vidor doesn't have much talent, but....Jeff seems to get the most out of them each year.

I disagree. I think Vidor has pretty good talent. A few years back, Vidor had about 4 or 5 guys who could break the 4.4 40yrd mark. It may not show, but Vidor has some talented kids.

But this isn't a Vidor thread, so good luck to BC and whoever they hire.

  8. Here are the Board Members up for election in Vidor this year. Kilmer, Quinn and Mr. Croak's open seat.  Formerpirate, I suggest you run and get elected this year to try to change some minds.  All of the current board has no interest or desire to see Mathews leave, in fact the board is working on a counter offer if he was to choose to atempt to leave.

It's time for all this mess to quit.  Mathews will stay as long as he likes, you must look at other things then winning and loosing, matter of fact you cannot run a teacher/coach off for his win/lost record.  It will set the school district up for all kinds of law suits, that the teacher/coach will win.

I will say this again, Mathews is welcome by the school board at Vidor for as long as he likes.  Even the Superintendant strongly supports Mathews.

First off, I never said that the board had a desire to get rid of Mathews, so get your facts straight before you run your mouth. I know a lot of people like Mathews and a lot of the school officials like him too. I just do not think that Mathews wants to stay in Vidor. When the BC job opened up before in '03 I think, he was interested in it then but decided to stay. I don't think he will pass it up again. And when there are people screaming for a winning team and blaming the coach when they lose, why would you want to stay at a place like that, so winning does have an effect on staying or going. And yes, winning does have an effect on a coach being let go or not, even in high school. It is just that the school district can cover it up very well.

Plus, I think Vidor needs to go in a different direction with its football program. There is talent here that is not getting exposed. But, we shall see in the near future I guess.

  9. the rangers dont have that bad of a team but they play in the weakest divsion in the american league. im not saying that it is impossible for them to make the fall classic but the east and central divisions are gonna be tough to get by.

How many people thought the Cardinals would dominate the Tigers? It would be tough, but I believe they have a good lineup and decent pitching and could make some things happen in the postseason. They need to find some consistency in their play though. If they can start off fast like the Tigers did last year, watch out for them.

  10. I think the Rangers have a solid team this year, I don't think it is impossible to see them in the Fall Classic. Their lineup is stout. Teixeira, Blalock and Young are an awesome trio in the middle of the lineup who can produce tons of runs. Lofton is still a good leadoff man at age 40 and Kinsler had a good rookie year at 2nd base. If Wilkerson can be consistent, he will only add to their good lineup. They have Catalanotto back and he is a Loretta type player who can play anywhere you need him. Their starting pitching is suspect but I like Millwood and Brandon McCarthy at 1 and 2, with Padilla holding down the 3 spot. Koronka will keep getting better and Robinson Tejada is a good young arm. If Gagne gets back to himself, I really like their bullpen with Otsuka as the setup man, if not then that is a major weakness for the Rangers.

  11. I'm with vhs on this one. It will be sad if Mathews leaves because he has meant so much to all the players over the years, but I do feel it may be time to go in another direction. I just don't think that he hires the best Asst. Coaches out there. Coach Hatch was the best D Cooridinator in the district and he left for more money. Why not pay him what he deserves to keep him around? I know the school district is the one who offers contracts, but he could have at least fought for the guy. Vidor had talented teams in '99 and went 5-5, '00 went 4-6 and made the playoffs, '03 went 6-4, '04 went 2-8 with a team that many thought would make the playoffs. You can't have talented teams and post those kind of records. I just think it is time for Vidor to go a different way with the program if Mathews goes to BC, or even if he doesn't.

  12. First off, Texas won the football game. Did you not see the TD that was called back at the end of the half?? No way that was pass interference, they both were fighting for position and any ref will tell you that play would have been a TD. Final score would have been 14-13. Also, Texas is starting a freshman QB who TAMU cheap shotted all game. Texas lost a lot of guys to the NFL, which TAMU did not. And in basketball, Texas' 3 best players were drafted to the NBA, so they have basically all freshman and soph. starting. And trust me, next year Texas will kill TAMU in football. McCoy will have a year of experience and Charles will get a lot more carries, like he should be getting this year.
