  1. Sorry, I was at the field all day....

Jasper was up early, but Bridge City came from behind and won 8-7

    Game 2.  Kelly vs. Nederland

Kelly wins 4-3 in 7 innings.  Kelly put the ball in play really well.

    Game 3  Kirbyville vs. Splendora

Kirbyville was up 11-4 going into the last inning.  Splendora scored 5 in the last at bat.  Kirbyville wins 11-9.

    FRIDAYS GAMES

    JASPER vs NEDERLAND - 11:00

    HARDIN-JEFFERSON / SPLENDORA (WINNER) vs. KIRBY VILLE - 1:00

KELLY vs. BRIDGE CITY  - 4:00 pm

I would post live updates, but I can't get internet access at the field.

  2. Here are my thoughts (in no particular order)

Sutherland (HJ)- Good team, but gets alot out of his "role" players

Simon (Westbrook) - Did a good job in a year that not much was expexted.

Knowles (Kelly) - Lost Brown, and has put up a 20+ win season yet again, playing some pretty good teams.

Fuller (WH) - Hard to argue about the success they are having.

McCarter (WOS) - Has had to deal with more drama in one year than most coaches do in a career... and still will make a good run in the playoffs

  3. Ok... here goes....

I have coached at the high school varsity level for girls and boys and also at the junior high level.... here is my take.

First,  Girls foul alot!  Speed is a big factor as far as being able to move as a defender.  Most high school girls players lack this speed, so there is always alot more contact than in the boys game.

Second, girls are aggressive. (watch two girls fight over a jump ball if you don't know what I'm talking about... They usually end with one being tossed to the floor)

Third, Most girls aren't strong enough to take contact without it affecting their balance, therefore they often end up layed out on the floor.

Finally, young (or inexperienced) refs usually fall into a trap of missing a call, and then missing another call to make up for the first missed call.  This is a dangerous thing to do as games can spiral out of control quickly!

As a coach, all I could do was stress proper defense and footwork!  When games get rough, there are times when I try to get a technical foul... not to show up an official..(It is a tough job... try it sometime if you think it is easy) but rather to draw their attention to the rough play.  Usually this slowed things down a bit.... but sometimes you have to be careful what you wish for.  If an official called every foul in some games they would end up with both teams fouling out before half time!

  4. I went......

Very good game between the area's best two teams.....

Ozen seemed to control the game for most of the way. Memorial played aggressive the whole game and game away with some big stops down the stretch. Both teams seem to be a little rusty....(Players haven't really found what their roles are)

Brown was a machine and did his usual thing.... Thre role players PA out played the role players from Ozen. Richards from Ozen is the real deal.... He made some great plays, just didn't seem to get as many touches as he should.

  5. This should be a good one.... Kelly lost earlier in the year, but had 5 or 6 starters out....

This St. Pius team beat Vidor and WHIIPPED Bay City 40-0!

The game is for the district championship and I'm sure Long will have them ready to go....

    GOOD LUCK KELLY.....

(I hope they start the "They don't want it..." chant again!.... We remember how that one ended up!)

  6. hj 9th game was 8:00 quarters due to weather coming in.... that way both games were going to be able to be played.

0-0 tie...... great defensive ball game. Both teeams had the ball deep in the others side of the field but came up short....

    hj jv-0

    wos jv-20

Penalties killed most hj drives.... wos scored on a blocked put in the 2nd half and scored again late in the game..

  7. i am going with thomas from east chambers. I know alot of people haven't seen him play and don't consider 2A "real football", but this kid would start for any team in the area. He plays every position and almost every down (both sides of the ball) I also think he has single handedly won 3 of ec's games this year.

    -Great Kid!
