but wait......in the closing seconds, thanks to WOS going for 2 and missing, now only up by 1...Kirbyville rides to the WOS 20, with 3 seconds on the clock, and Coach Alverez calls for an unexpected FIELD GOAL by #11 MATT RUSSEL..and it is good in the comeback win  KVILLE 37

    WOS 35.............one for the highlites!!!!

Hold on folks, 1 second left on the clock. Trey Franks returns the kick-off 65 yards for the TD.  MUSTANGS WIN AGAIN  WO-S 41  KIRBYVILLE 37

  2. WOS 89-You're not telling the correct story bout Dayton/WOS scrimm.I kept tabs on paper. On defense the broncos held the mustangs 1st-5 possessions to 5-1st dwns.=5 punts. After halftime #8 Ploch went out w/cramps and played very little-#10 the jv qb overthrew every pass-Soph.rb #22 fumbled twice turning the ball over both times.Dayton lost composure.Late in the 4th qtr.a fumble was ruled player down-words were spoken-ref tacked on a long penalty and a few plays later WOS lineman scooped up a fumble and took it in.That is the real story my friend.

What are you talking about LILTEX, all I said is that without the pass interfrence call, which was a good call by the refs, WO-S holds a very good Dayton to 0 points.

  3. That is me over on 3a Downlow and what I wrote is fact. That was not the WOS JV. I don't know if someone just doesn't understand or they are trying to make an excuse for us giving up a TD to Dayton. Personally, I don't see the big deal. We gave up one TD on the first series then handled them pretty well after that. Dayton is a good team, one TD at the start is not something to be alarmed about.

I agree with you Gas, and if not for the 4th and 17 pass interfence call the Mustangs hold a very good Dayton team to 0 points.

  4. LCM played Texas City to a scoreless scrimmage while the JV and Freshmen outscored TC according to first year LCM Coach Randy Crouch.  "I was pleased with the effort for a first scrimmage," he said. "We were on the 6 yd line when the game ended.  One concern I have following the game is that we have to do a better job making sure we have the right people in the right situations.  And we'll get better at that."  The Bears will host Silsbee in a scrimmage on Friday

    Still impressive.

  5. Talk about it in The Crimson Corner

It had been rumored for a few days but on Wednesday afternoon a pair of teammates decided to continue their playing careers together for a few more years, and they chose to do so in Norman, Okla.

Those teammates were Orange (Texas) West Orange-Stark stars [db]Trey Franks[/db] and defensive back [db]James Haynes[/db].

The two prospects are among the fastest in all of the Lone Star state and apparently Franks wanted his commitment to happen as quickly as one of his touchdowns on Friday night.

"I had been thinking about us going to Oklahoma together since when they offered me," Franks said. "James had his offer pretty early on but as soon as they offered me I kind of liked the idea of us playing together up there."

Franks, who is the third of his group of brothers to play college football in the Big 12 south, says that familial ties to the state were a big part of his reasoning for liking Oklahoma.

Interestingly enough those ties run through Stillwater and in particularly Oklahoma State's football program.

"Actually my grandfather played at Oklahoma State and he now lives in Tulsa, I've also got an aunt that lives in Oklahoma City," he said. "So it will be real good to have some family close to me when I'm up there."

The receiver who took home the Texas 3A state 100-meter championship with a blistering 10.36-second time has the time of game-changing ability that perhaps Oklahoma has lacked at receiver and in the return game the past few years.

It's a reality that [db]Jay Norvell[/db] was aware of when Franks gave him the call to let him know of his decision.

"He was really excited, he was talking about the ways they can use me and put my speed to use for them," he said.

So what was it about Wednesday July 22, that caused the two teammates to think it was time to finally bring recruiting to an end?

"I've actually wanted to do it for about three weeks now but James wanted to get everything lined out before he committed, so I waited until today," the three-star receiver Franks explained.

Though Franks' excitement about his decision is obvious he took a moment to clairfy his thoughts about schools continuing to recruit him.

"Oh yeah, I'm done, I'm glad to have this behind me," he said. "I can just focus on my senior year and I know that I've got a teammate coming with me."
