BH 8th grade beat the BH 7th in the championship 41-27 I think.  The little ones held their own through the 3rd Q, but let it get away in the 4th.

I saw the OF seniors play against ours (BH 7th) and I too was very impressed with the motion offense and cuts.  You guys are going to be fine with a little play under your belt.  Double zero has got game!

BH does have an outstanding girls BB program and we are always looking for more talent. I have a daughter playing point guard going into 8th grade next year, so I am biased!  Dayton folks, please don't take offense, but while in general the sports programs (and the fans) there are top-notch, girls BB isn't, at least not compared to your neighbor down south.  Our 7th grade played Dayton 3 times this past year and won by an average of 30 pts each time.  8th grade about the same results.  High School is coached by Van Chancellor's (Houston Comets) son John, who has experience in college and professional coaching as well being a great motivator.

Also, BH girls play all year on on select teams by grade level.  Playing tonight!

BH JV will be there, running as varsity I think. 

Ditto to BH85.  Primetime runs quality tournaments, organized and usually stay on schedule.  You just never know for sure what kind of team you will face, but that isn't all bad.  They DO reserve the right to combine age groups, but generally put some thought into it first.

My only knock to BB tournaments in general (not including Little Dribblers) is that they or notorious for not sharing who is entered, how many teams etc. until about 3 days prior to the tournament.  In the softball world, my daughters other sport, tounament directors post "who's in"  on eteams.com and generally keep everyone in the loop on what's happening.  With BB, we are always calling and trying to pry info out of them...Who's in? Is it gonna make, etc?  Sometimes you find yourself with a tournament that either has weak competition, few teams or maybe doesn't make at all with no time left to get into another that same weekend.  Not trying to disuade anyone from going primetime, another level, etc, but you need to stay in communication with the TD, they won't come to you.

Track News - BH Boys Set School Records

The 2007 Barbers Hill 400 Meter Relay Team broke the Barbers Hill school record that was set in 1956. The record had stood for 51 years. The 2007 Relay Team of Nick Coggin, Blake Patton, Todd Patton, Jared Smith ran a 42.6 at the North Shore Track Meet. The 1956 Relay Team was Hollis Naquin, Donnie Myers, Dan Hooks, and Gordon Speer.

BH 4X400 has posted a 3:23 which is currently ranked 3rd in the state on texastrack.com.  Ran a 3:24 at the BH meet this week.  Bit of trivia-  they ran it with two sets of indentical twins!  Pattons and Malek's.

If you are willing to travel to Houston, look at primetimesportz.com,anotherlevelsports.org, houstonhoops.org and houstonhotshots.com.  I know the the BH girls 6th and 7th grade are playing in tourneys hosted by these this spring.

Facilities for fans, coaches and athletes (when they aren't on the track).  Liberty's stands for the track are very small and its a difficult place to watch a meet.  If the track was in the football stadium it would be great.

BH 7a and 8a do appear to be very good, although H-F gave the undefeated 7a girls the best game they have had this year.  BH took it (about) 26-19.  The 7A team has averaged around 55 pts/game to opponents 11, so H-F put up a good defense.  BH is DEEP though, rotating 1st and 2nd units regardless of score, and they have 4 posts that are 5'10" or greater.  Some good girls BB coming for years at BH!

This is a goofy question, but does LCM allow beards on their athletes/students?  Noticed one of the players had one.  Don't know that I have seen that very often  allowed on a HS player.

Andy was my classmate (and still my cousin!) for some years at Barbers Hill while his father was Head Coach there. He IS a great guy and is representing EC, Anahuac, BH and all of SETX very well. Congrats Andy!

Hopefully we will see him back down this way someday.

Does anyone have any info on upcoming Little Dribblers (or other) BB tournaments for girls in GT area over the next few months? Have a senior level (12-13yo) team that is looking to play.

The lack of competition if very frustrating. Agree with BH85 that fundamentals really suffer, bad passes etc. Only way to keep those groups sharp is to compete in LD senior leagues and AAU/Primetime tourneys. Thought moving to 4A would help...it has not.

BH 7A I think will be very good in the future, since they have something that we haven't seen much of in years: HEIGHT! 4 girls at 5'10 or better already and have good fundamentals for their post positions.

BH 7th and 8th Girls undefeated. Don't have the 8th grade scores, but 7th has outscored competition 165 to 31 in first three games (Huffman, Crosby and New Caney). 8th girls have a similar winning margin.

Wish they were playing GT teams, much better competition!

bcofgsa - interesting comment. I feel your pain. My daughter does both, BB and SB, along with half of her tournament softball team. It is a struggle in the Spring/Summer for sure. I co-manage her softball team and we constantly have to work around BB.

The good news - 7th Grade! as soon as they are there, you don't have that conflict. Of course then there is volleyball, cheerleading, cross-country etc etc etc!

You're right though...the same benefit to the HS softball comes from a good local softball league (and good area select teams).

You're right 89-2, they need to spread the love. Heck 12 might even hit somebody tonite...I think he's due a big offensive game as well.

Yes there a lot of good youth coaches out there. Hopefully more than the sorry ones! We have been blessed to have them. I know about the 7th and 8th schedules, my son just got out of two years of it and its no different for the boys. At least Cleveland gave them a battle. Looking forward to AAU and hopefully we'll see HJ, HF, OF and Lumberton in some school tournaments. Its really tough when you can't even run a set play because the defense is so bad. Just drive the open lane and score.

Seriously, yes Region 4 is going to be a dogfight. Several good teams and not sure if any one is going to be clearly dominant.

I second BHFAN. Don't turn the ball over. Coogs will make you pay. Look for Crosby to reach deep into their bag of tricks as well.
