  3. Kountze and OF have to both win or lose to play each other. One game at a time HillGuy I think its a good guess both will win their first game...but I hear ya Bobcat
  4. Good luck to OF (I can be a fan since I went to 1st and 2nd grade there!, lol). I'll be waiting for the update on the OF-Kountze game. The key to stopping the Lionettes: play man and CONTEST the 3's...you can do it Bobcats!
  5. Hoping BH makes it to the 'ship, but guessing Ozen, Friendswood, Mayde Creek and Humble all have a shot from the other half of the bracket
  6. Both the Competition Gym and the Aux Gym are inside the high school. Both are in good shape, with the aux gym getting a brand new floor after Ike. Unfortunately, the Field House gym which is the "big" venue at the south end of the football field is still under repairs for major hurricane damage. Really sorry it won't be ready till January, it was a great place for some rockin' championship games in the past!
  7. Britney Griner of Nimitz. The number one reason Baylor is considered to have the best recruiting class in the nation for 2009!
  8. BH 64 Galena Park 37 BH now 12-5 and 3-0 in district.
  9. Hawk, you responded before I saved my edit, but I stand by it, lol. I would NEVER say let up on defense, but to continue pressing when up by 50 with 5 min left (which I have seen this year in SETX) is asinine. My opinion though. Guess I'm an old softee And come on...if your going to get steals and layups in a half-court defense, your going to get them pressing for sure. At least you can say you're making an effort.
  10. This is what I'm talking about...excuses and rationalizing. How hard is it for a coach to say "get back!"? Any team that "doesn't know any other way to play the game" and lives by the press will die by the press when they finally face a better team. More excuses for bad sportsmanship. Whether its a court or field, you can show honor to the other team if you desire. If you choose not to, fine, but don't say you are unable to. Sorry... telling it like it is.
  11. The only problem I have with this is...who cares whether your motives or good or bad. If you are running it up, you're running it up, whether you are "working on your game" or not. Thats a cop out and an excuse. Gotta be better than that. Not running up the score takes conscious effort. If you don't care whether your team embarasses another team or not, then just say it...don't defend or make excuses for it. Man-up... Cowboysfan...not slamming you, just using your quote as example of how some folks "excuse" the behavior of the their team. Your post finished strong, I respect that.
  12. Nov 25: Houston Madison 102 Sam Houston 2 Wonder when Madison pulled off the press, wow.
  13. Not sure of the acronym either, but visited with the coach of HCYA South at Lovelady. Very nice guy. Said generally they practice three times a week or so. They are very dedicated ball players. There was a article in the Chronicle back in Jan 2007: Home-school athletes: They changed my mind Video: Jenny Dial: HCYA has home-school advantage • • • When I set out to do a story on a home-schooled basektball team, I didn't really know what to expect. In my head, they were a group of girls that didn't really go to school and had all the time in the world to become good basketball players. After spending some time with the team and watching them defeat some really great teams in the area, I have a new outlook on the group. When I compile rankings each week for girls basketball, HCYA is left out. In reality, the Warriors are probably one of the top 10 teams in the area, period. But, other coaches in the area don't think it's fair for them to be considered. A few of the comments along the way have been "They play like a million games a season," and "All they do is practice." Most coaches and players from regular high schools don't think its fair to group HCYA in with other high schools. The fact of the matter is that HCYA is incredibly different. They do play more games than anyone- they don't have set eligibilty rules. The fact they are so different makes people look down on them, when it's becoming more and more clear that the reality is other teams are starting to be intimidated by the Warriors. I watched HCYA beat Dulles in one of the best basketball games I have see all season. Dulles scores more on its opponents than anyone in the area, but HCYA hung in there and ran the court with the Vikings through the whole game. At that point, I became a believer in the Warriors. It's a strange situation -- home-schooled kids playing basketball. But at the end of the day, the talent that beams from that team is what people should notice. The comments and whispers from people that I've heard about HCYA this year are ridiculous. The Warriors are a good team top to bottom. In fact, Rachel McLeod, who will suit up for Liberty this season, is definitely one of the top 10 players in this area. When she plays for AAU in the summer, no one questions her athletic abilities. When she puts on her HCYA jersey, she is stared at like she has the plague. Teams in this area need to move past the stigma that goes along with "home-schooled" and notice what is happening on the hardwood.
  14. Probably just the timing. Lots of other stuff on people's minds right now with Christmas and the ecomony, etc. I predict plenty of smack talk after the first. Here's something for you "never let up" fans (and you know who you are). BH had 5A Northbrook down 55-5 at the half, STOPPED pressing at the 1 1/2 quarter mark and worked on new offensive schemes, and practiced 4 corners during the second half, scoring only 19. Wow it was nice to see someone show some sportsmanship. ;D That ought to get a response, Bobcat (this not directed at OF, I promise).
  15. Here on the bay too!...kids were out all over the place at 9 o'clock. What a year...Merry Christmas to all
  16. Heard it was something about academic eligibility, but cannot confirm that.
  17. By first round bracket order: Bracket Link ( from BH Sports Report...Note: The bracket leading up to the 3rd place game may be changed to avoid teams almost immediately playing one another): Gulf Coast Classic Bracket - Girls Barbers Hill - Host South Houston Huffman LCM Beaumont Westbrook Crosby PNG Mayde Creek Humble Ozen Nederland Terrell Baytown Sterling Friendswood Lumberton Hastings When the bracket is posted, I'll update with the link
  18. If you want to handle Kountze...play man and don't let them shoot the 3. The are deadly outside the arc.
