Yep, the big girl moved to Atascocita who started pretty strong but really haven't played all that great recently, losing big to Central lately. King is very athletic, it hurt them losing her, but not too much.

CEK 43 BH 40 We have gone cold shooting two games in a row now. Gotta get it together.

Since we are playing King tonite and I didn't mention them in my predictions, I am now forecasting they will win it all (so that I don't jinx us). Seriously, they do have some talent, but hoping they will not be able to put enough points up against BH's tough defense.

I'll always know David Barfield as "Doc" since he was our trainer extraordinairre when I was in HS. He taped many a shin splint for me in track and always had the tank hot for us when we were banged up in football. There may still be many folks who don't know of his decision yet to to retire the BH Sports Report. I for one say it will be missed, Doc. I wish there was someone to pick up the torch, but I just don't know who. Maybe Gina H. can have the journalism dept take it over as a project for aspiring sports writers!! To all who see David Barfield around school events this spring: Make sure you tell him thanks for the effort he put into the website over the years. It made a lot of students, parents and fans happy to see the stories, photos and scores. Thanks again, Doc. And enjoy retirement!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks Cat...not bad, I think Central would argue for a little higher rank and Livingston recently defeated Kountze. H-J is solid, but still has something to prove to me before I'd place them at the top. But that's what's fun about polls!

BH has not faced Dayton or K Park yet this season (and very few common opponents), but both look to be better than expected to me. (Records are approx) Dayton 12-9 K Park 11-9 BH 15-6 KP and Dayton have faced some quality opponents, with KP defeating HJ, PAM, Huntsville. Dayton defeated KP by a couple, had some tough losses to good teams and even beat 5A Stratford, who is solid. I say BH has its work cut out for them. Looking for thoughts on how this district race will end up!

taking advantage is one thing----in my view BH goes to the extreme--again if you have friends in the know at HJ and Kountze just ask them--if I were a coach I would not participate either Well, who draws up those dastardly brackets? Let see, the current BH head coach and his predecessor, both well respected, GT natives (one of them from a school you mentioned) must have been corrupted to the "extreme" when they came to work for the dark side ;D ;D ;D

Anyone else want to argue that they don't take advantage of being the tourney host when drawing up the bracket? Come on Diamond ..puleeez.

Kingwood Park has been playing very competitively against some good teams. It should be a horserace between Dayton, CE King and BH for the top spots. BH hasn't played either of them yet, so its hard to say how it will end up. BH gets first test against CEK Tuesday...we'll see.

Jenna had a breakout tournament, very talented young Sophmore...great things ahead for BH! I think they need to move back to Orangefield. Lot of jobs in the golden triangle. ;D ;D ;D Plus both still have family over here. They are my neighbors, so I know where they live...and I'd let the air out of all their tires if they tried to leave! ;D ;D I know dad reads this forum, so don't be puttin' foolish ideas in his head! BIG BIG things ahead for BH girls basketball in the next couple of years...Jenna's gonna be a big part of that

Give the kid a break, she is to young to be pushing her yet. She will have a ton of time for all that coaching latter. Make sure at that age that she has fun being a kid. This will be important to her future in playing softball, they must have fun when they are young. Just so you know before you form an opinion: I don't push and never will push my kids... She wants to learn to hit better, I shift work and don't really have the time,and have taught her all I can. She is moving at her own pace. However I do appreciate your insight and concern. IMO she is probably still a little young for hitting lessons, but if that's what you want to do Jeremy does a fine job at Grand Slam in Orange. You are probably helping her just fine for now, just worrying about basics. Gotta have a good foundation to build off of for later. 10 years old is about right to start hitting lessons. Never brought mine to a hitting coach, except when Verde tied to sneak in a couple of rotational lessons. BTW whatever you do and whomever you use be consistent. Nothing screws a kid up faster than everyone trying to teach them something different. IMHO, I respectfully disagree, JohnnyT. 7 is a great time to learn the RIGHT way to swing a bat. Its difficult to un-learn a bad (linear, haaha) swing. A couple of lessons and lots of tee work, then soft toss, will get her going in the right direction. She will love the game if she can learn to hit with the right mechanics. You don't have to push her hard, just get her started correctly.

I heard about, but did not see, one Cleveland fan who was escorted outside by police. There was a lot of yelling at referees, but not any different than most games home or away, in fact I couldn't hear much from the Cleveland side because the BH fans were chewing out the ref's pretty loudly as well, lol.

I didn't see any trouble at all after the game. The Cleveland players and coach all showed good sportsmanship, as did BH.

BH defeats Cleveland 58-50. Very good game and it was very evenly called. BH just out-hustled Cleveland, no doubt about it. Ian Hamlin - Tournament MVP
