  1. I don't know everything, but I think it was so they could tell him and Bart apart since they were both Coach Williams.  Bart had a nickname too when I was in school, but no one said it to his face, do you know what it was?

You must be a young fellow cause Bart was not even in the picture when I was in school.

Actually, Coach David Williams was first nicknamed "Daredevil Dave" because of his daring feats to show off by performing stunts to show us his athletic skills in 1976. He would have us doing gymnastic type drills and he loved showing us how to do it. This was at Little Cypress Jr. High in his first coaching job fresh out of College.

We later pegged him as DW cause it was just easier to say, and we called our other jr. high coaches by their initials too: EB Ellis Boyd and KW Ken Willis. Ken Willis moved a couple years later and Ellis Boyd is at the high school now and known simply as Mr. Boyd but DWs name would stick because of a handful of smart a$$e$ in Jr. high school. I would never call him DW to his face, even after my graduation in 1980, but I did let him know about it when he decided to retire two years ago.

So do you need to send me a pm to tell me what you used to call Bart ?

I forgot JT  Johnny Taylor.  He was a character also !

  2. It is a shame that adults do not understand sarcasm anymore!  I Am closer to DW than anyone on this board and I think he is one of the three greatest men I have ever met. He is also the best FB Coach I have ever seen, bar none.  Unfortunately, the community had a very short memory and the "he can't coach" came from them, not me.  DW gave LCM 33 years of faithful service and he did not even get a "thank you" when he left.  They should name the stadium after him!  Then this new coach comes in and wins 8 games in two years and they think he is the greatest thing since sliced bread. I was merely comparing the records of each man's first two years, 8-12 for the current coach, 20-3 for DW. You do the math!

OK, so DW is your best friend. Bet you don't know how he became DW instead of Coach Williams ?

  3. We will take DW anyday of the week. He has helped out in Deweyville big time and all the young men RESPECT him very much. We really hope that he is asked to come back and help again this year. Come on sweat in the bucket get him back up here!!!!!  ;)

I just ran into a friend of mine who has been working 3 jobs.. One fulltime day job and 2 partime night jobs. He applied for a new job that pays very well, and then called DW to see if he knew the guy. Coach Williams did not, but offered to give him a call anyway. After making several attempts to reach the man without success he drove down to the business to meet him and put in a good word for his former player.

  4. whats the deal with Jasper?  I know this is football forum but In the past has been very strong in track.  They had 20 pts and no relays in district meet.  Thats crazy!

Yea, they usually have guys that CAN FLY. I'll bet Brooks can get some sprinters back out for track next year. We just gotta wait & see.

  5. No question that Griff is a winner. This year has been a prime example of his coaching skills.  One returning varsity player and a bunch of young ones that have learned how to win. Thats impressive !

But, I don't like the Batman & Robin comparison................I never liked Batman and Robin is, well...........................a little too sweet looking.

But hats off to Griff & company !

  6. I would have to pick LCM............... and also would like to tip my hat to coach Griff for what he has done this year with a young team and only one returning starter.  I know there is still alot of ball to play but, he has got more out of his team this year than any coach around.

Regardless of what happens the rest of the season. Griff has my vote for coach of the year !

  7. Don't know for sure but you can bet Thomas Brooks will find a few good men and work em hard.  Lets remember that Jasper has got more than a few athletes to pick from !  Brooks is a proven winner too.  His credentials include state championships as a player at Bmt. Hebert and as a coach at WOS and Waxihachie.

  8. William Morrissey from Silsbee and the Mohica kid from Ned were the best two D Linemen I ever coached against.  One year against Silsbee, our whole plan was to go away from Morrissey.  The best LB I remember was Aubrey Brisendine from Ned and Gayron Allen of WOS.  Offensively, I remember Shanderrick Charles fropm Lincoln, Dustin Long from PNG at QB, Summrall from NED as a RB, The Lively Brothers from Silsbee were great linemen.  The Mayhew brothers were pretty good too.

From my playing days I remember a WO-S RB named Eric Williams, Saillier from Lincoln, Roderick Robertson and Rick Orebo from WOS.  Speedy Cooper and Malcolm Andrepont from Beaumont South Park, Mark LeBlanc from BC, Bo Brown from Vidor, Willie Cade from Jasper

As a child I remember Bryand Ward from BC, Don Richards from LCM, Teddy Gibbens from LCM, Chris Gunn from LCM, Rocky Gonzales from LCM, Bud Adams from Hebert, Spanky Broussard from Cleveland, Jerry Ball and Gerlad Landry from West Brook, Champine from WO, not WOS, but WO Chiefs, Craig Couvillion, Wendell Rhodes Stark High Tigers and many others i probably can't remember.

Yea, South Park used to have a few good ones.

They had this guy back in 1979 named Olin Green.  This guy made All State both ways as a TE and DE.  I remember trying to block him, I hit him as hard and solid as I could and it was like running into a train. I just bounced off and he would make the tackle.

I did not suck either.............................. this guy could flat out play !
