1. That was real intelligent Bronco34, as if BH hadn't heard that before! The spring time lights may be a little different outcome for the ponies.  ;)
 2. See if this helps you on the BH schedule: [Hidden Content]
 3. I always support our Houston teams, I just don't think we manage them the same (as the Marlins, etc.) and we send off good talent too early and hold bad talent too long! Oh yeah, and don't want to spend money in some cases to make us stronger. JMO :-\
 4. For a Freshman a good target to shoot for is to break the 2.4 mark. The average game pop for a good high school varsity catcher is 2.20-2.25. Above average is 2.10-2.19 Excellent for a HS varsity catcher would be a game throw 2.0-2.09 The key to remember is that the catchers throw is only the 2nd half of the equation. If your pitcher is 1.7 to the plate, and your catcher is 2.3, that's 4.0 combined. That will beat many baserunners to 2nd. I have so many coaches contacting me telling me their catchers are not effective throwing out runners but when I ask what their pitchers time to the plate is they have no idea, We need to be aware of both times. Catchers take to much of the blame for successfull basestealing. I had one 14 yr old student a few years ago that could throw game throws 1.90 and faster. He caught on a middle school team. He only threw out about 20% of the base stealers. The pitchers many times never even looked over to first. The leads were and jump were huge. It's not just about the catchers throw. ONE MORE STANDARD FOR YOU. Another good standard for kids to shoot for is for the kids 13yr old, first year on the big field. Most have been throwing 85ft, now 127. Their goal should be to finish spring season of 13 yr ball breaking 3.0 Kid with a 90MPH fastball......Potential Kid with a 90MPH fastball and a great catcher....Results This year should be interesting, but some of the boys in your lineup haven't played in HS ball in a couple years and some won't make it at positions you mentioned. But unlike you, I won't mention names because that is not what this board is about.

I agree with BringinTheHeat, time will tell and I do not see anybody dominating the district.  But it will be like always when a new coach comes in, He is the savior until he sits sombody's kid or somebody is not on varsity that dad thinks they should be.    There will be a 4 way battle for district, Lee,BH,GCM and Crosby, not in that order because I could not predict that.  Patty, you stated ealier that if you ain't hitting .300 you aint trying.    I agree with that in non-district play, you are facing most #3 to #5 pitchers, but in district when you face Leggett, Gabby,Sealy, Chance (GCM), Long and come out with a .300 Avg, you did good.  If those four teams all split in district play it would not suprise me.  I like the confidence that some bring, but lets just sit and wait before talking too much smack.  I do agree that Denny will do wonders for the program, but the kids still have to play and there are a couple of holes to fill with 3rd base, 1st base, 1 or 2 outfield spots and a DH.  Returners are Thompson(catcher), Leggett,( SS), Santana (2nd), Bonnin(OF), King(OF), Newcomb (Utility), may be some moving around, but look for these to stay in the lineup. Pitchers- Long,Leggett,Ausbury, will be returning.  Look for Woods to help with the pitching,  Erwin,Denny,Thames and Beasly to get a position and make a impact, but they are still not proven yet and there may be a suprise or a move in, so you never know how it will play out.   I do know with those 6 returners and how they can hit and add those 4 mentioned and knowing how they can hit, it will be a solid line-up.  But also know GCM has some serious sticks back as well.  My Prediction is BH,LEE,GCM,and Crosby all make the play-offs in any order.
My prediction on starting line up= Dylan Marshall(catcher), Matt King(1st bagger), Santana(2nd), Denny(SS), Erwin(3rd bagger), Thames, Wood, Bonnin(outfield), Thompson, Newcomb, Bellard(DH) Maybe Thompson stuck in right field if he can judge a pop fly cause he has a good stick. As for the pitchers look on 1st page. listed them all and they have 5 pitchers in depth. going to be a good team
I hope we don't use your line up! I am glad Denny is the coach and hope he doesn't accept suggestions!!
 6. I have good thoughts for BH this year too, but when you put them on the highest pedistal and whack everyone below, then we open ourselves up wide. Plus, if I remember last year, we did have a pretty good team and so did a few other district teams. I hope Denny does help us out in needed situations and aspects of the game, but give the boys from surrounding areas some credit, I bet they are working just as hard and I know they have some good talent, I've seen it.

I'm not 50 and my son is not a senior. But you are right, he doesn't play.Maybe because he doesn't play football. He gets Commended on all his TAKS test, was invited by DUKE University in the 7th grade to take the SAT test. So yeah he is taking a different path then football. Hows that for academic excellence? has dayton what a state championship in anything??? <-- what is that! you learn that in your better academic school over there on the bump?   So BH may or may not win Friday night.... pretty good assumption don't ya think?  :-*
All colleges recommend students to take the SAT. its called ADVERTISEMENT for their school. I also like the TAKS test score haha. colleges dont even recieve those scores. They are sent to the state and no one else sees them again. O and what did he make on his SAT a big 900? man that would be an awesome score for Dayton. thats 9 times more than the 100  ;D ;D ;D
and 16 2/3 times more than 54.
Nope, That's only 899.999964
 8. OK, now that Dayton has hi-jacked another BH thread, can we get back to the BH- Crosby game??? GEEZ, BH talk clouds up a good day for Dayton egos. BH by 17
 9.

Here's an idea for Dayton why don't they wait for the team to get on the field before playing the National Anthem. To me this looks bad on Dayton not BH or Crosby. You control when the Anthem begins, so give the team time to get on the field! Very classy move by Dayton. 1st time looks like a mistake, but doing this to two teams? The band director needs someone to bend a flute around his head  8)
At the Barbers Hill game we had not only the national anthem to do but also our comments and tribute to the young man from WOS who had passed away the previous weekend. When it got to 6:58 I got the call from down on the field to get started. At the time, the game officials were standing on our sidelines next to coaches who had headsets on and the word to get started came from the adjoining room which is where our other coaches were. I assume the word came from the officials. Therefore, the next time it happened, when it became 6:59 I had everyone stand and played the national anthem. The gametime is posted as 7 p.m. and that DOES NOT mean you wait until then to come out of the dressing room. As it was, I think we kicked off at 7:03. For BH, it was almost 7:05. I guess you'd expect an airliner to wait for a passenger because he didn't feel like coming out of the coffee shop until he was ready and the heck with everybody else. That, to me at least, is a pretty self-centered attititude.        Dayton comes out about 7:50-7:53 and warms up in the end zone. These two teams had no opportunity to warm up right before the game. Maybe . . . Now, pick up your excuses and go buy your coaches wristwatches. Oh, they already have them. My bad.
You guys let the small things bother you too bad! Get over it!
If you read posts from above: D. Wood threw 89-92 this summer and C. Erwin on a loose arm threw 91-94 this summer. Says so on my radar gun.
I think your gun needs calibrating.  ;)
The games improved since your son has been playing. BH is bringing in a lot more kids and have a lot more talent
First, my son only graduated in 2008......not too long ago   ??? ??? ???. I can promise you the '07 & '08 teams had plenty of talent , more than last year's....and that's not a knock on last year's team. 5 pitchers on the '08 team went on to pitch at the next level. Hales, Thamm, Silva, Kelley, and Burditt. I hope these kids are throwing as well as you say. It's just not what I'm hearing from the contacts I have at the high school, select team, Juco, D1, and MLB scouting burea levels.....and from a couple of D1 recruiters. One from a university that you mentioned in your pm. Coach Denny had a gun on the kids that are in the baseball offseason within the last month. No one was over 86....and that wasn't from either of the two that you mention....one of which is not in the offseason program. I've been around the baseball recruiting and  the MLB draft deals long enough to know if you are a senior touching 94....you are already signed w/ at least a JuCO and more than likely a D1, or both, and scouts are around you thicker than thieves...even if you only played select ball your junior year. Second, the growth rate in Barbers Hill is primarily at the primary school level. The enrollment figures for BH from the last 2 UIL classifiactions did not change all that much. With that said,  best of luck to the BH Eagles and Coach Denny.
I agree!
 11. It won't be a handout for BH, that's for sure. Crosby didn't just runaway with it and like stated before, they were the district champs last year.
 12. All the boys work hard and it seems that we will be adding depth to many positions this year and that always helps! I can't wait for BB season to start! I think everyone is excited and can see some great things in the works! :) We should be pretty good this year.

Wood has always had good velocity, not a lot of junk, even back in Sr. LL league ball, but that is a pretty good improvement and C. Erwin must have gained the 15-20 mph someone was talking about, needs to work on location now.
From what I remember at games using the gun... Long hit 87 but consistent mid 80s, Leggett consistent mid 80s, Asbury consistent mid 80s, Thompson consistent 82-83. Now with that said, doesn't mean they always hit their spots or didn't have a few rocky roads, just from what I have seen.

This thread has gone on for 14 pages.  Maybe BH should make that their slogan for all their athletics this year and put it on all their shirts.  Then we would be sure and not forget. BTW-Funny how everyone said BH academics is so superior but we moved from BH this year.  My daughter was working on her Dual Credit English paper and made the comment "BH did nothing to get me ready for College classes. What a waist."  BH needs to get off their high horse and come down to reality but it will never happen.
Funny, you used to be for BH, but now that you moved, it is scum. Glad you left!
 16.
As mentioned NS has two middle schools. Last year both the north shore middle school and cunnigham had really good 7th grade a teams. but like you mentioned, good players with bad coaching doesnt always equal wins. From what I saw last year North Shore was the better coached team. And I believe that each of the jr highs play one out of district game which for Dayton was Cunningham, but for BH it was Forest Brook middle school...what I heard ended tied 6-6. Forest brook has good players but has even less coaching and structure..kind of shocked that they were able to tie BH's 8th grade A group. The rest of the district is 5 baytown jr highs along with bh, dayton and alice johnston(channelview)
Thanks for the information about Cunningham. Barbers Hill has some AWEsome athletes in 8th grade also. Will be interesting to see how the Eagles do against Cunningham.

I was at the 8th grade A game and the NF boys looked to be the size of kids driving themselves to school, 3rd year 8th graders. They were not fast, but tall enough and enough meat that we couldn't just bring them down.
Hey 82!...it was just as bad 50 yds from the action.  The main story here is BH did not put the ball on the ground or throw to the wrong color jerseys.  Despite some unraveling that led to costly penalties late, we looked much more disciplined and mistake free overall.  I think we got a little too conservative up by such a large margin and we started playing too soft in the secondary. The onside kick was legit with a monster hit on 32 trying to field the ball before it went 10.  Give credit to Ned for not laying down.  Send us a cold front from Co...please!
We didn't really start playing too soft in the secondary, we have been getting eaten up against the pass since we started this year. Count the points against us this year on the pass alone. The 'D' did a great job against the run! Offense was moving the ball well too.
 18.
Exetremely to the extreme frustrated fan. IMO the coaches have the kids out on the field that they believe will do the team the best. Just from what I have seen, the future of BH hinges on their sophomores, they were easily the best group of players from 9th to 12th.
The 10th/11th grade group is the best when put together. The sophomores won't win everything by themselves, that's a fact. I do agree that there is some good talent (that may not return next year) standing on the sidelines watching some players out there that need to be on the sidelines. Our defensive backs may have some speed, but they aren't covering receivers very well, costing us many TDs. We need to have an O-line block in the trenches a little better so we can throw the football a little more to divert attention from our 98% run game. JMO
 19. The new baseball Head Coach is David Denny: David Denny was born and raised in Humble by parents who were both public school educators.  He was a three-sport All-District performer in high school.  At the University of Texas he lettered on four SWC championship teams and four College World Series Teams.  In 1983, the Longhorns won the national title. Coach Denny was voted to the All SWC Team twice and an all-American team once.  He was drafted three times before signing to play professional baseball with the Philadelphia Phillies organization. Coach Denny has coached at the University of Houston, reaching the regional championship game, Stephen F. Austin State University, Marble Falls H.S., and Elkhart H.S. He helped the Kenai Peninsula Oilers of the Alaskan Collegiate Summer League to a state championship and number one seed at the N.B.C. Championship Tournament in Wichita, Kansas. In 1997, his Houston-based summer team won the national championship for the 17-year-old division at the A.A.U. Junior Olympics. Since 1995 he has been here at Kingwood. As an assistant he, and then Coach Gurley, helped guide the Mustangs to their only regional championship game. In 1999, his second year as head coach, the Mustangs finished tied with Baytown Sterling for the final playoff spot. Losing a one game playoff kept Kingwood from the state playoffs.  In 2004, Coach Denny guided the Mustangs to their first 30+ win season and their first state final-4 appearance.  In 2005, Coach Denny led the Mustangs to their best season ever, finishing as the 5A State Champions, a 35-6-1 record and #12 national ranking.  David Denny and his wife Kary have three children.

 21. I like how a defensive player makes all-district when he hasn't even played the position all year, but his batting average makes up for the difference. And not all teams have a COACH keeping the book, an inexperienced book keeper (player) is keeping it. JMO
