As usual lumberton hosts another successful tourny and I look forward to a great season in setx.

I thought that when 4A went to 4 playoff teams, Lumberton might benefit and have a few post season appearances. Maybe this is the year. -

Westbrook up 16-4 when I left.
It was more of the same the rest of the way. Brook looked to be really strong throughout the order. I would think they will compete for the district title. I don't see them finishing any worse than 3rd.
LCM struggled a good bit. Should be in the mix for fourth, or could be a long year for the bears. I'll give them the benifit of the doubt for now, perhaps Westbrook was just that much more talented than the LCM. -

Good lord.. I've lost a lot of respect for that staff over there just because of this.
I saw west orange stark wear a white jersey once. This is an outrage. Their school colors are blue and silver. I think both staffs at LCM and WOS should be let go for being such poor roll models to their students.
Not really!

What is newcomer? Newcomer to the district? Newcomer to varsity baseball?

If I'm not mistaken, district selections won't take place until the playoffs are over. But, I could be wrong.

U R
the kids in this district have already been told. -

Im a little confused how are the picks for all district actually done? Please enlighten me on why this was posted and please give me your take.
Panthers,
To those who are interested. These are the season ending stats that we have. Hopefully you are able to view them. It depends on what program you have. The PDF is probably clearer.
Also for those who have concerns with the all district picks, I would like to inform you that we have no control over the other coaches choices. They each have their own method of choosing who they want to vote for. I can tell you that 95% of the time it comes down to the highest numbers when they choose. Also, I think I can say on behalf of all coaches that we hate to see a kid deserving all district not chosen because of low numbers. My suggestion is to continue working hard and improving so there is no doubt who is best. Don’t let All District Picks disappoint you, let them motivate you.
Once again I would like to congratulate all players selected
Im just asking!

Be real,
Why ask why something was posted when you are the one that posted it? -
I now see what you meant by misleading. The vidor / png part.
I went back and read again. I see what you were saying.
07 -
You are right PNG is 12-4.
Not misleading though.
Nederland and LCM are a combined 28-0.
And Vidor has now lost 5 times in a row in the first round, BUT! You have to be in the playoffs five times in a row to get knocked out fives times. So good job to the pirates. -
Pat
This probably common knowledge to most on here, but I was wondering if Crosby flipped PNG for one game or not. -
Some interesting stats:
I looked back at the 20-4A history thread and 20-4A is about .800 in the bi district round.
Of the 10 bi district round losses:
5 were by Vidor
4 were by PNG
1 by WOS
It looks as if the bulldogs and bears are batting a thousand in that round as far as I can tell. Pretty impressive stat.

1) Silsbee Tigers ----------Most Surprised team in 2011
2) Bridge City Cardinals --- Most Disappointing so far in 2011
The cards are now tied for first place in district. Congrats to their coaches and players who have hled it all together and weathered a bad day or two.
My picks:
1) Livingston Lions -------------Most suprising team of 2011 Found a way to beat PNG twice
2) WOS Mustangs-------------Most disappointing so far of 2011 There was talk of a state championship -
Game is on KOGT according to their website.
Looks like the Bears are a big underdog in this one. While I agree the dogs take it i think the Bears are scrappy and will keep it close. Maybe finish something like Dogs 5 LCM 3. -
It was not too many years ago that PNG lost seven or eight in a row just before district. The main problem was errors. The coaches righted the ship in time to make the playoffs and put that bad time in the history books without many even remembering it. Brevell was on that staff that turned the snowball around. He will do it this time as well.

10 pitches an inning? unbelievable!!!!!
-
And how many did he strikeout?
-
Sounds like an impressive opening night for Crosby's ace. How many pitches did it take to mow down Sante Fe?
-
The sports world is anxiously awaiting admin's preseason top ten. Any release date announced for that yet?
-
I have a hard time believing this is legit. Gilligan is giving one on one lessons for 40 an hour. That just doesn't seem right. What coaches are participating in this?
-
I am going to say the jury is still out on the programs improvement as far as I am concerned. 5-5 in district was good enough to get in but by no means a huge turn around as far as mustang baseball goes.
WOS has been finishing in or around third place for years. Other mustang coaches that finished third (thompson, moore, westbrook, rivers) were not allowed to go to the playoffs by the UIL during those years. Now they do. Tarkington would have finished fifth or sixth in our district. Now there is a bye. I am holding back on labeling current operations ahead of those coaches mentioned before just yet. -

My prediction is Brenham 10-1. Just too strong for Crosby. They flipped Brenham for one game for a reason. They are rolling the dice to try and put together a perfect seven innings. It happens in baseball. The team that plays best on game day wins.
I am not downing Crosby, (I am touting Brenham) but Brenham gets the check mark in every aspect of the game. 1) Playing basically at home. (summer and fall lands them in Langham Creek) 2) Brenham tradition 3) Coach with over 500 wins 4) they are better at all nine positions 5) team speed 6) more power 7) higher team batting average (don't know Crosby's but I bet it is not higher than .390 8) strength of schedule
I may be wrong. I have only kept up from afar after seeing both teams play early. Tried, but can't think of any category that Crosby would receive the check mark?
Huge underdog!
here are the stats for both teams
Brenham team Crosby team
28-4 24-5
.380 batt avg. .314 batt avg
2.92 ERA 1.80 ERA
58 E 44 E
.945 FP .955 FP
105 SB 61 SB
Chase Welbrook vs Jeremy Gabryzswski
2.33 ERA 1.39 ERA
74 K 92 K
Not really a "HUGE UNDERDOG" as you think!!!!!!!
Go Coogs
1) The .384 batting average was before scoring thirty runs last weekend on thirty? hits.
2) If JG pitched against the same opponents that CW has pitched against, he would not have 92 K's.
3) If CW pitched against the same opponents the JG has pitched against he could have have 120 K's.
4) ERA would be different as well. Example: Brenham vs. 12 5A teams on schedule & Crosby vs. 5 or 6 3A teams on schedule.
I agree on who is the underdog. That does not mean Crosby can't put it all together for seven innings and sneak up on them. Just saying they are not favored to win.

Ditto Brenhamfan and thanks Eagle07. Friday night is Senior Night at the Dogpound.

Should be a special night............savor the moment.

I didn't think Nederland had very many seniors. I thought they had most of their starting nine returning. -

every one is doubting lcm this year because the lose of all of the players they had last year but i'd watch out for them they will surprise alot of people this year
Better watch for Lumberton they seem to really be on the rise with some serious talent this year. The first three spots are a lock. Ozen and Central are down. Not sure about Livingston, but I think they could give Lumberton and LCM trouble. I think you could easily see Lumberton upsetting LCM for the 4th spot in the playoffs. -
Who is the D-1 commit/recruit?
