I wanted to congratulate your Alma mater on making the PO’s. It’s a super accomplishment for them, and I hope you get to see them play.

We are in the process of putting together a Playoff Central thread that will include our coverage area teams, opponents, date, time and place and what team they would face the next round. We will do this for each round of the playoffs like what we already are doing with our Weekly schedule and Scoreboard. This will likely be posted Monday. We will also continue to do game threads for each of our coverage area games. Please be patient while we put this together. Thanks

Well dang it. Might have to hit up some of my fellow alumni then and go sit with them. Guess I will be taking myself to the game while the hubby works. Can't miss out on this hisotric occasion for the Raiders. Thanks for letting me know. Makes sense on the strategic point as well to have that extra time to get ready for a game that will likely be a little tougher.

It took me until late last night to get all 40 of our coverage area game info collected and posted. Can't understand how some folks think the state wide should be ready Saturday morning. smh
-
Even then, a lot of times arrangements arent made until after lunch Sat or later...I guess I should be glad people care but people were legit mad in my email lol
-
I’m sure there are a lot of communities with schools that rarely or never play on Saturdays and unfortunately don’t consider this.
-
They used to be a pretty good program if I remember correctly, anybody know anything about them at all lately?
-
With LPISD not voting for the VATRE (like every other ISD in Harris County voted them down), I doubt if the streaming of LP activities will be incorporated into the school budget. It will probably remain the same, maybe become small subscription to cover more of the costs, or they may finally succumb to UIL. I have no idea. I know Harris County--approving the largest tax hike in history without voter approval--probably hurt all the local VATRE proposals that were up for a vote. People are stretched. There is some gray area here though, as much of the technology for broadcast capabilities, etc. was paid for by the taxpayers via the bond that funded the stadium. So, I guess you could say--in a sense--the taxpayers and ISD are paying for the technology for the broadcasts, along with the utility costs associated.
-
LP game is the only game being played there this week. I am quite certain the decision to play Thursday was a strategic decision.
-
Could be. I know last year they hosted a first round game. I think it was Silsbee and Hitchcock? I don't see them hosting a local coverage area team this year. I don't know if anyone out of area is playing there. I kind of doubt it.
-
Yes. It is completely school run and funded and can do playoff games as long as they do not run ads during playoff games.
-
Nevermind Stepp posted the answer same time I asked
-
This is correct.
-
Breaking down my soap box now. One last ? Is PNG ndn media Academic and allowed to continue?
-
I know PNG has an amazing student led broadcast...they are able to still stream most rounds unless its one of the 4 exclusive games....I think they do have some ads in the regular season but they just don't run them in the playoffs
-
I believe you're correct. LPsportsNET is recognized as the 'official broadcast' for LP sports as a partnership, and the students work the cameras, etc. as part of a class curriculum. But, it's funded by advertisers and community support. It doesn't receive school funding. The students get course credit if enrolled in the multimedia class. Some students just help out & I think the two brothers pay them a little for the help. But, don't quote me on it.
-
I get it. Reminds me of Coach "Sonny" in the Program asking... When was the last time 80k people showed up to watch a kid do a chemistry experiment?
-
My guess is LaPorte wanted Thur...being a heavy favorite they are likely wanting an extra day to prepare for the second round
-
The vast majority of activities the UIL provides loses money...band is one of them...doesn't make them less important but they lose money they don't make money. Revenue from football a lot of times supports all the other great things the UIL provides for all students from sports, to fine arts, to academics etc
-
Thanks for clarification about the UIL. I was unaware. I was referring to the schools themselves. See the recent comment about LaPorte being forced by UIL to take the contract. Side thought... Regional band contests are basically playoffs for them. And free streams were allowed there. But I guess they see where the majority of money is made in the greatest state for HS football period. Soap box is still there if anyone else wants to step up. No pun intended lol
-
Pretty sure the La Porte broadcast is not a school funded and led broadcast. It's a privately owned broadcast much like what we do here except it's video. Taxpayers have nothing to do with those broadcasts. It's my understanding that all school funded and led broadcast entities can do their school playoff games. Just have to coordinate with UIL.
-
The school can broadcast the game...unless its changed if its a true academic broadcast that's ad free they have the ability to do so... If they sell ads then its not an academic broadcast and would have to broadcast on NFHS where they'd be compensated
