Was told tonight that no matter who wins both coaches have agreed to play Vidor @ Galena Park Next Friday....

Montgomery will probably win by 4 TD's or more.  Them, Dawson & Angleton are probably the best D1 teams in the region.  Vidor will be in for a real test.  If you can get by the Bears, y'all have a chance at beating anybody in the region.

Disagree. I think Angleton and Dawson are a couple of steps better than Montgomery, but that's my opinion.

The same Dawson that needed OT to beat a rebuilding Lamar Consolidated team?  Dawson is way overrated....  Montgomery, is every bit as good as both of those teams!

From what I've read about the Bears, a Vidor - Montgomery football game will be VERY entertaining. Don't think we've ever played each other before. BrenhamFan, what sort of offense do they run and who should we look out for? You probably have enough information about the Pirates by now.

GPISD stadium is just east of 610, and is very nice.

Montgomery: They are one of the bigger 4A schools in the state (2000+) & run the spread if I remember correctly.  It's a very balanced attack, that they used to run more out of, but since the halfway point in the season, (when they lost House) they have relied slightly more on the pass.  The Bears boast 17-4A's best offense (428.4ypg), and 2nd best defense. (216.3ypg)  They are well coached,  the QB is accurate with a very quick release.  His favorite target is Gasaway, but also uses Peppe.  The receiving corp is top notch.  Last I heard, they were without HB House, who only played 5 games this year and still put up 960+ yards. (Not sure if he's back) They havn't had as much success on the ground without him, but they are still no slouch.  On defense, they like to blitz and they disguise their packages and coverage well.  (Our QB has thrown 2 INT's this year, both were against Montgomery).  They are probably one of the best 2 loss teams you will find, losing both games by combined 14 points.

Offense- 42.9ppg
Defense- 12.3ppg

W        Crosby      49-28
W        Spring      42-13
W        Jones        72-6
W      Stratford      38-7
L  Magnolia West 14-21
W        Waller      40-14
L      Brenham      7-14
W  Spring Woods  59-0
W    Northbrook    59-13
W      Magnolia      49-7

Where is Galena Park's stadium? I have to work in Baytown all next week. Leaving from there to see my Pirates.

Then you are in luck because your trip to Galena Park ISD won't be that long.  You take I-10 to the east part of Houston.  Take the "Uvalde" exit.  Turn right on Uvalde, take it all the way to Wallisville Rd.

Take a right on Wallisville Rd. and it is a short way to the stadium!  It will be on your left (but you'll notice that as soon as you turn onto Wallisville Rd.

I think the quickest way is to take I-10 West to Beltway 8 north.  Then take the second exit, which is Wallisville.  At the light, which is Wallisville, turn left (crossing under Betlway 8).  The Stadium will be about 3/4 of a mile on the right.  If you're close, you can't miss it, giant stadium.

Montgomery went 4 rounds last year, defeating Huntsville, Crosby, and Dawson before losing to Friendswood.  They should defeat Vidor next week.  Angleton and Dawson await after that.  One of those 3 teams will win the Region and I would say they are all pretty even.

    • We'll see. I don't trust us.
    • Starting pitching has been shaky the last few weeks due to some injuries outside of Hagen Smith.  He goes tomorrow, so y’all should be fine
    • Manchin may get it but any mention of the radical left that wanted to get rid of the filibuster and end almost 220 years of history because the Democrats are mad?  The House and Senate are obviously different legislative bodies with entirely different election processes and rules for a reason. The House can vote on laws with a simple majority vote. The Senate put rules in place that it would make it much tougher to pass laws. Laws should be difficult to pass. The Senate is often the holdup of the right and left. It takes 60 votes to break the filibuster so any law will almost certainly require agreement at least in part, from opposing sides of an issue. Because they can’t get laws passed, the radical left is like a baby having a tantrum and wants to change over 200 years of history and make it potentially ridiculously easy to pass laws. I have seen current poll maps and it is possible for the Republicans to sweep into complete power in November but by the tiniest margin. That would possibly mean that a single vote margin in both houses could enact what you might call the radical right laws. There would be nothing that the Democrats could do to stop any legislation whatsoever if the left (they are all radical, minus Manchin) got their filibuster rule changed.  That is where the current filibuster comes into play as any new law would require several Democrats to agree with the majority Republicans and vice versa.  Do you want the potential for your radical right to have free rein as the radical left wants by killing the filibuster or is the radical left just as (if not more) dangerous? Let’s see if we have a history in this area? Oh yeah, the Democrats changed the rules in the Senate to allow federal judges to not have to overcome the filibuster. Obama was not getting his federal judge nominations passed and being angry, they changed the rules instead of nominating more moderate justices. They were warned that it would come back to bite them. They didn’t care and chose the nuclear option to change the rules. Oops! Any guess how Trump got all of his Supreme Court nominees passed against strong Democrat opposition? The Democrats got rid of the filibuster for federal judges after another tantrum   So when you are so worried about the radical right, are you equally concerned in what the radical left is always doing by changing rules and history which were put into place just for situations like we are in? So while Manchin gets it, what about his other 50 colleagues (49 + Harris)?  What concerns you more, Abbott and Paxton or the Democrats who want to make it to where if the Republicans do take over, they can go wild… at least in your mind?
    • MODS please remove that ISD twitter link! I had no idea it would copy the whole posting. I only highlighted the portion about the venue change. Sorry about that!
