Jasper...what's wrong....

Recommended Posts

I've heard it all,

Weak senior class- heard this for two years now, morresy is the bright spot. Lack of leadership? No work ethic? It's all about me?

Qb- coach playing politics? Passed on sr qb to build future? Heard coaches really like fresh qb and he is future, frustrated with walker..

Coaching- fired last coach cause he went 2-8 he blamed it on lack of talent said last years fresh class (soph class this yr) was only talented class in HS.  New coach- looks like having same problem as last coach some say kids are not smart enough to grasp concept.  Came here as a defensive specialist but has not shown it yet...

Offer your opinions everyone has one....

It is very simple. Several years ago Jasper decided to go the offensive route, meaning putting all their eggs in that basket(put the better players on offense, not defense). Since then Jasper's defense has been a shell of what I have grown up to know of a Jasper defense. They simply try to outscore opponents instead of trying to defend. This has been their downfall, particularly the last two years.

When Jasper starts putting their better players on defense, you will see a return to glory for Jasper. Until then, it seems that everyone can score 30 points or more on these Jasper teams of late.

Here is one. I said it an earlier post I happen to be at the Jasper Orangefield game sitting on the visitors side with Jasper  Shortly after the first quarter I noticed the players bickering back and forth at each other. Not in a motivational way. But where I could tell the other players were getting upset and holloring back . that is not teamwork. and thats what my point is. I believe if they just played more as a team they would have it . I believe they have the talent and the coaching just need to come together as a team. all for one.

You run on Jasper all day long.  Livngston did it, WO-S did it, Orangefield did it....heck even Lumberton did it.

If you can't stop the run in high school football, you will not win.

Silsbee did it as well to the tune of 280 yards. ;)

and Silsbee is a spread team!!

I think the youth of Jasper's coaching staff, including the head coach,  is showing. Even in games in which they won (Lumberton for instance) the coaches of the opposing teams have been able to make adjustments and Jasper hasn't.  As we know, the mark of good coaching staff is the ability to put players in the right place (personnel) and secondly, to make adjustments (pre/mid (halftime)/post game. The TEAM would be better served  with different players on defense (personnel). I have watched some of the best like Outlaw of Lufkin, Alvarez of Ennis & WOS staff has always beein able to adjust at halftime and come back out and exploit a team. They are paying the Morgan boys & Steele a heck of a lot taxpayer $$$$$ not to be able to make adjustments.  Is the community getting what it paid for?

I see Carthage moving back to the district during realignment, so hopefuly they will strengthen the district a bit. I hope to see 18-3a with six football teams.

There's nothing wrong with Jasper that a little stability in the coaching revolving door won't change. No program can with stand the number of coaches and systems in a few short years that Jasper has had. Parents need to back off and quit second guessing what is going on. The new coach came from one of the proven winning systems in Texas. Give him a chance to implement some of this system.

Jasper has played fairly well for a new coach and system, up to this point. They had a hiccup against orangefield....but it happens. We are going to be just fine...I still believe we win a very weak 18-3a district. As for if the community getting what it paid for.....I have heard nothing but positive remarks about the new coaches from the current players. These guys have improved the field house and facility immensely since they have been here, by working hard every morning usually up there painting and working before school. I do believe the community has gotten everything they are paying for. Give them some time, the dogs will be just fine.

When Coldspring scrimaged them one of Coldspring's players said it was the same defensive scheme as Carthrage but with one exception: the talent on defensive was not the same and too many of them was not sure of their techniques. The answer to discipline is it has to start in 7th and 8th grade with discipline and the parents will be mad (when they are benched) but it will payoff later in High School. Coldspring has at least 5-6 players that would be starters and maybe two Allstate Prospects that did not play the last two years because of discipline problems and parent interference with the coaches. At least that is what the other players said why they didn't play. Barbay will not play you if you have discipline problems or even dress out.

I agree 100% with the guy in Silsbee. Jasper built its tradition on defense. During the Walkoviak era, defense was a constant and we were always good even when the offense wasn't. Creating short fields for our offense by forcing mistakes was our bread and butter. I'd love to see that come back to Jasper.

Our dogs will be just fine. Give this staff time to establish a winning attitude again. The x's & o's are now solid. The schemes are solid. The kids just have to learn them where they can react without having to think. That is what takes time.

This staff works their tails off and they are going about it correctly. Just give it time.

Jasper will get well once 183A starts, then look for a few playoff wins.
