Bordertown Posted Wednesday at 04:48 PM Report Posted Wednesday at 04:48 PM Help a Smoaky.com member understand what to expect from Lake Creek in Round 1. From what I can tell from their stats, they have an athlete at QB who accounts for 75% of their offense. He seems to be a good runner (leads their team) and a so so passer. How is their defense? Will be interesting to see how District 7 & 8 match up. I think the #1s out of each district should be heavy favorites, but the 2s v 3s to be interesting matchups. Quote

Texas High by 4 TD's or more. I am leaning Montgomery with their match up vs. Mount Pleasant and Marshall with their match up vs. Huntsville. Quote

MP’s offense seems to have figured it out in their last three games (against lesser competition). I expect those two games to be highly contested. Lack of defense is not a good recipe against a balanced offense. Quote

District splits… home teams will win imo. Lake Creek has zero defense. QB takes advantage of the running lanes that open up…. Extends plays and drives. A linebacker spy should help that out a lot… their o line didn’t impress me much. Not sure how Texas High D line is this year… LC didn’t have very good pursuit to the ball on D, missed a lot of tackles, Quote

Texas High will not have a problem! Quote
Bordertown Posted Wednesday at 07:37 PM Author Report Posted Wednesday at 07:37 PM Going into the season, the Texas defense was thought to be the strength of the team. They had their ups and downs early in the season against above average teams. From the Marshall game on, they have been dominate. The question mark was our QB and OL. It was known the QB was an athlete, but played WR up until this year. He has been a pleasant surprise completing 2/3 of his passes for 2000+ yards. While it has not been necessary to date, he can be dangerous with his legs. OL seems to have gelled after a suspect early season, but may be the weakest link on the team. If Lake Creek cannot play defense, it will be a long night. Tiger offense averages 400+ ypg which is basically 50/50 run and pass. Quote
Darth Texas Posted Wednesday at 07:46 PM Report Posted Wednesday at 07:46 PM LC doesn’t have much firepower. They have spurts where they can be stingy on defense, but it’s nothing special. Their offense is one decent receiver, a solid qb, and a decent running back who isn’t raising any eyebrows. I might rank six RBs in our district higher than him (he’s a freshman with a good ceiling, so that’s not a knock on him). The result is pretty one dimensional, but they’ve moved the ball ok all season. Qb waits for a perfect pass to let it go, so you can get coverage sacks all night. He’s got a good touch when he does throw it. Numbers seem down over there. They don’t have the depth of a 5ad2 team. Basically, they’re a 4a team at a 5a school. The early game might be close — Despite everything we’re all saying, LC isn’t bad. They can make a game of it. They just don’t have a lot of talent or depth. So, I’m expecting it to be 14-7 to start the 2nd quarter, but it’s 45-7 by the end of the 3rd. Quote
Eazy Posted yesterday at 02:33 AM Report Posted yesterday at 02:33 AM Agreed for the most part. LC isn’t a bad football team. They are what they are, a 4 seed. I wouldn’t say they have zero defense. Their opponents scored over 28 points only 3 out of 10 games. And those 3 were really good teams. LC will compete. The reality is Texas High would have to overlook them for this game to be tight. I don’t expect a blowout, but Texas should win with room to spare. Darth Texas 1 Quote

DukeS Posted 20 hours ago Report Posted 20 hours ago Related - how long has it been since Texas high and Arkansas high played each other and why did they stop the rivalry? Quote

Think the series ended around 2018. Arkansas High enrollment dropped to a 4A2 and the games were no longer competitive. Think Texas High had won about 17 of the last 20 outings. It was by mutual agreement, but one side wanted to end it more. It was quite a rivalry game in its hay day. As the school names infer, it was more of a state v state rivalry. Sadly, census numbers sometimes come to a natural conclusion. Quote

Bordertown Posted 2 hours ago Author Report Posted 2 hours ago Being a city where 60% live in Texas and 40% live in Arkansas, the flow of population being the states resembles the South Texas border. While my friends in Arkansas would disagree, the Texas schools are superior. Arkansas side families find ways to get into Texas schools, such as “aunty” living in Texas is the legal guardian. The rise of Pleasant Grove in the last dozen years, along with the strength of the Tiger program, has seen the “aunties” harbor some good athletes. While the Texas High v Arkansas High rivalry appears to be dead, Arkansas High has not picked up either Pleasant Grove (also an ugly result) or Liberty Eylau. Quote

There may be some lurking. I wish they would talk. But, it’s been hard to get participation from anyone out of the Montgomery schools. And only a few Huntsville people join in, but they’re active enough they make for a bigger presence. The Montgomery schools, I think, would just as soon not be in our district. I agree it’s an unnatural fit, but we might as well talk while we’re together. Quote
DukeS Posted 32 minutes ago Report Posted 32 minutes ago there are at least a handful of parents from PNG or Nederland that have/had kids at Lake Creek now Darth Texas 1 Quote
