Thanks. Neumann must of still been there. I know they didn’t play good defense when Barrow took over and Rich’s 1st 2 seasons have been bad defenses

I believe Delbert Spell was still the DC for Monte Barrows 1st 2 years as head coach 2017 & 2018.  ‘17 team went 8-3 , defense was solid, top 2 defense in district,  had 2 DB’s that year with 8 picks each, both earned all state recognition, team interception total was like 30, lost in the 2nd rd. to loaded Manvel team.  ‘18 defense, top 2 again in district, started season 9-0, finished 10-2  co- district champs, lost in 2nd rd to Marshall. The 2010, ‘11, ‘12 & 13 teams were loaded with strong defenses that won 4 district titles in a row, i believe without losing a district game in that run.

I hate that this game ended in the manner that it did. But it was a crazy game from the get go, sort of.  Or perhaps from the mishandled kick off. I saw BU mishandle a kick-off like that against PNG in '22. Going way back to the 60s, Groves Jr High recovered two kickoffs for TDs in a row against Port Arthur Edison Jr High. The Edison coach was livid.

2012 is the peak in recent history. Back then it wasn't like it is now, we always pulled the school that was "going to move to 5A" the next year.

Now it's more closely aligned with the D1 and D2

We went big school every year back then.....That's a different animal.

I know losing is painful, but I like the fight.  Congrats to Dayton, who always brings something to the party.  Defense needs some shoring up.  Maybe it's time for some guys to go both ways.

This game was a dog fight for sure - So far Daytons offense usually puts up alot of points on most teams we play. So I don't think Neds defense needs that much tweaking .Daytons defense on the other hand ???? Good  luck to Big Ned the rest of the season!

2020 defense wasn't bad, probably the best team Barrow had and the last team to go 3 rounds deep

Best 3 teams with Monte Barrow as head coach (In order by year)

2017- 11 Games- 8-3 overall, 6-2 in district, Points Allowed-216, Points Scored- 362, Lost to Manvel 2nd Rd.

2018- 12 Games- 10-2 overall, 6-1 in district, Points Allowed- 264, Points Scored- 378, Lost to Marshall 2nd Rd.

2020- 12 Games- 8-4 overall, 6-1 in district, Points Allowed- 283, Points Scored-350, Lost to Ft. Bend Marshall 3rd Rd.

So they averaged giving up 19 points a game in 2017, 22 points a game in 2018, and 23 points a game in 2020

I would say the points allowed per game those 3 seasons were nothing to write home about. Good seasons, but not very good defense. IMO you have a good defensive team if you average giving up 14 or less
