mat Posted October 22 Report Posted October 22 6 hours ago, Reagan said: Concerning the Schumer shutdown: Democrats have voted for a “clean” continuing resolution (CR) to keep the government open 13 times in recent years, primarily during the Biden administration from 2021 through March 2025. A “clean CR” refers to a short-term funding extension that keeps spending at current levels without additional policy conditions. These Democratic votes occurred under prior divided-government negotiations where both parties agreed to avoid government shutdowns. However, since the current shutdown began on October 1, 2025, Democrats have opposed at least 10 separate clean CR votes in the Senate introduced by Republicans. In summary: Period Votes by Democrats for clean CRs Notes 2021–March 2025 13 times All under Biden administration to avoid shutdowns October 2025 0 votes in favor (10 times voted against) Ongoing impasse during Trump administration Overall, Democrats have a record of 13 prior votes supporting clean CRs but have not supported any of the 10 clean CR proposals brought to the Senate during the current 2025 shutdown. I’m no Schumer fan, but he voted to approve the budget in March (Trump administration) to avoid a government shutdown. Quote

And he received a lot of flack from his base. He is in a bad situation. I think he is hoping some other Democrats vote to spare him this time Reagan and LumRaiderFan 1 1 Quote
thetragichippy Posted October 22 Report Posted October 22 Here is the problem Democrats face. The shutdown is not being blamed on Trump. Trump as of today has an AVERAGE approval rating of 45.5% On the same polling site, Obama had an AVERAGE approval rating of 43.7% on Oct 21st in the first year of his second term, so apples to apples..... If you look at the favorability ratings, leaders in Congress and senate on both sides don't look great, but Republicans have a slightly better favorability than Democrats...... I predict enough Dem's vote yes to get this thing through by the end of the week. Quote

tvc184 Posted 21 hours ago Report Posted 21 hours ago I just watched the Democrat Minority Whip say that to shut downs are “terrible” and that the people will suffer. But… the Democrats are doing it for it “leverage” because the Republicans won’t meet with them? Is that like when the Democrats were in control and would not meet with the Republicans? Perhaps in their opinion that only goes one way. So a major Democrat representative said that they know families would suffer and they know that the shutdown is terrible, but they will not vote to pay the workers so they can get political leverage. Got it! Thanks for the admission. thetragichippy 1 Quote

But Trump is taking care of that. That's what I voted for! Quote

Eagle11 Posted 5 hours ago Report Posted 5 hours ago One thing people are seeing during the schumer shutdown is how many people rely on the government for food. 3.5 million Texans alone will lose food stamps. In a state of 31 million. 11% of Texans rely on federal money to eat. That is not help and assistance, that is lack of drive and will power for one's self and family. Living off the government has become a career for many (not all but many). As with everything the government touches it cannot properly oversee and run things. And they want to oversee our healthcare. LumRaiderFan and baddog 2 Quote

And they want to oversee our healthcare. I think this is the elephant in the room that no one wants to address. There are so many people that work crappy jobs to support themselves and their families and never think getting government assistance. Yet there are TOO MANY that just accept Government assistance. We somehow have to convince people they will he happier and have a sense of pride when they work and EARN a living..... My Father taught me several things, but his most important were life lessons......here are the ones that stuck with me (that I also taught my Son) 1. There is no embarrassment in having a low wage job - embarrassment is when you have no job. 2. When you are at work, if there is nothing to do, grab a shovel and dig a hole......when you're done, if there is still nothing to do, fill it up. Repeat until there is something to do lol 3. Never place your hands in your pocket when you are at work, that is a sign of lazy. So basically his thoughts were there is no reason to not have a job. He worked an instrument mechanic for "Gulf" and very good at that job. When they would strike, he would go work at the Orange Rice Mill slinging sacks of rice off the trains, or work at a body shop, painting cars. He was a worker! THAT is the mentality we need to establish in 2025 - too many people expect things for free and the Government has also been a player making it too easy to get free stuff.
