Hardin v. Hempstead

This week the Hornets take on DaQuan Lattimore and the Hempstead Bobcats on their territory.  The Hornets will do their best to bounce back from four straight district losses, and will make sure that DaQuan doesn't "hit the quan" in post touchdown bliss.  The boys will be fired up and ready to go, with their last win coming over a month ago to a JV team.  Thunder by Imagine Dragons will be playing on repeat on all of their head phones. (I don't know about you...but that song gets me fired up)

The visitor's section will be packed with the Hardin women that aren't at Stetson's in Humble and the eight band dads who don't hunt deer.  This is a tentative assessment assuming the Lady Hornet volleyball team gets knocked out of the playoffs by the corn-fed hoss-es of East Bernard tonight.

Friday night....If the Lady Hornets pull off the upset, only the eight band dads will be in attendance, four of which will be begrudgingly holding down the blow up football helmet...It's gonna be windy...somebody buy those boys a Frito pie and thank them for their service.

The most difficult battle Friday, will be for the coaching staff to keep the football players off of the volleyball fan bus...IF the Lady Hornets pull off the upset tonight.

May the realignment gods shine upon them.  Hardin by 2 in a stunner.

Hardin (which is WEST of West Hardin, by the way) will be focused on February's realignment. Rumor has it that they have petitioned to be placed UP a classification, provided that they can compete in the JV division. UIL commissioners will debate prior to February's realignment, and should have an answer by late January.

Meanwhile, on Friday, the Hornets will board the bus (Football bus hopefully) and travel West to Hempstead in search of the elusive district win. A district win is almost as elusive as the albino Boone and Crockett buck that has been rumored to be stalking the river bottoms near Rye. Unlike a district win, at least someone has reported seeing the albino buck.

Off season plans are being honed, and you can bet your butt that the Hornets will improve in all areas of football. Off season should start for them next week, but will be postponed until after deer season. After that, however, it's on like a pot of neckbones. GO HORNETS!

    • What the writer stated wrt crossover votes in the primary/runoff: "Covey and his supporters Paxton and Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick said Phelan only won because Democrats crossed over to vote in the Republican Primary for him. Paxton said Covey’s campaign identified “at least” 1,442 Democrats who voted early in Jefferson County in the primary runoff. Texas does not have party registration, but a voter’s primary voting history is public. The Covey campaign has not released its methodology behind its claim, but  This is the hidden content, please Sign In or Sign Up  by The Texan news website found that 9% of Republican voters in the March District 21 primary had voted in one of the previous four Democratic primaries. However, only 5% of that group had voted in all four previous Democratic primaries. What Phelan’s opponents did not mention is historically Democratic Jefferson County is undergoing a political transition towards the Republican party — the county judge switched his affiliation to the GOP in 2017 — so many residents have a mixed primary voting history. And Phelan’s allies in the House dismissed the idea that liberals swung the election. "I knocked on doors, hundreds and hundreds of doors, made calls for Dade,” Republican Rep. Jeff Leach, R-Plano, said on Mark Davis’ radio program Wednesday. “I did not speak to a single Democrat down here in HD21. Not a single one." "
