I've been saying for a while that when WOS plays teams with identical talent they always seem to lose. Overrated maybe? The navasota game was the perfect test, #1 offense vs #1 defense. Well we saw how that turned out. Lol

True , But I'll say out Coached.....
Also we'll never have to worry about Ozen being Overrated. ..

Just shows you WO-S can't even beat themselfs.lol.

If your talking about playoffs there has been only a couple of times where they  were the favorate and loss. Most of the losses were to much better teams that went on to win state. That's not exactly playing a team with identical talent and certainly dose not mean they were overrated.WO-S has a great program and fields a competitive team every year.Just because they breeze through a weak district most yeras dose not make them overrated.

Year after year the Mustangs meet up with a team who is bigger and stronger in the trenches and they get beat in the playoffs. The lack of size on the defensive front will continue to be their down fall. Until they can match up with the big ugly's, I don't see a state championship coming back to Orange.

The loss against Carthage wasn't due to lack of size. It was due to turnovers, and poor execution. jmo

That's flawed thinking. If WO-S's defense played a straight up man-on-man defensive line, then you would be correct. That's just not how WO-S plays defense. The Mustangs play a team pursuit oriented defense where speed and strict defensive assignments are the strategy. I can think of many MANY games in the last 30 years where WO-S faced an offensive line that outweighed our defensive front and the defense got the better of them throughout the game. So, "matching up with the big ugly's" is never the WO-S game plan, and shouldn't be. Losing to Navasota had more to do with supreme skill players by the Rattlers. No one in the state was good enough to beat that team. As for the Carthage game, chalk that up to early Christmas presents (turnovers) generously given by WO-S. The one playoff game in recent years where WO-S was run over on the line of scrimmage was Wimberley several years back. That was the exception.

Wimberly, Coldsping, Brookshire Royal, Carthage and might even be able to throw Navasota in there of teams that absolutely man handled us up front. Trust me I am a die hard Mustang fan and have tried to come up with the solution of why we keep getting beat deep in the playoffs. Besides Navasota who was all around great, we could have and should have beat every other team that I listed. We can play the speed game and beat every team that we have the athletic advantage over but when we meet up with the power schools it just seems that we get pushed around. JMO

I have to agree with whoisatfirst. WOS, like many teams that get deep into the playoffs, has problems with teams with big lines and that are very well coached and stay to their assignment. WOS has the speed and athletic players to play with any team out there. When teams have power runners and big lines we seem to stuggle. IMHO

the jasper game was one heck of a game if you were there i do belive you might agree. jasper matched the mustangs speed  and had a very large  line on both sides of the ball.
