  1. Yep. Maybe playing them twice before anyone else gives them tigers a leg up in the district race. Those Dogs' from up north have got to be hungry now. GOOD LUCK 21-3A. I would not want to meet up with anyone in this district. You talk about playoff experience from just playing the regular season. GO Tigers!!! 8)
  2. NEW: Gillispie balks at A&M deal COLLEGE STATION — At the end of another bizarre day in Texas A&M's quest to lock down basketball coach Billy Gillispie, school officials delayed an announcement of a new contract agreement after receiving indications from Gillispie that he wants to keep open his options for the most tantalizing of current job openings — Kentucky. According to sources close to the situation, Gillispie late in the day balked at verbally agreeing to a new contract placed before the A&M board of regents for approval on Thursday. Under the new contract, Gillispie's base salary would jump from $1.25 million to around $1.6 million per year. The school had hoped to announce the new deal Thursday afternoon and put to rest nearly a week of speculation about Gillispie's intentions to stay at A&M. The day's maneuverings kept the uncertainty alive for A&M fans, but brought a week of drama at Arkansas to an end. According to reports, the Razorbacks elected to drop pursuit of Gillispie after being informed by athletic director Bill Byrne around noon on Thursday that Gillispie, who is in Atlanta for the Final Four, was accepting the new contract offer at A&M and was staying put. Curiously, according to reports, Byrne contacted Arkansas athletic director Frank Broyles around 10 a.m. on Thursday to grant his permission for the Razorbacks to talk to Gillispie. Following the A&M regents meeting, A&M officials prepared a statement to acknowledge the new contract and announce Gillispie's acceptance of the deal. Around 7 p.m., the announcement plans were scrapped. [Hidden Content]
  3. I wonder if they would talk about their mother or sister that way?
  4. Loveofthegame, Please before you say stupid things check the facts, while it means absolutly nothing to me LSU-E plays a very good schedule that already includes a sweep of Galveston, and Laredo. They played and beat Wharton, and Bossier City last year. The head Coach at LSU-E has averaged 8 players a year signing with top D-1's. I understand the debate and everyone pulls for there own guy but with another great statement from Dayton That the catcher did not sign because Mcneese St. did not give him a full scholarship...........No such thing @ a D1 unless you are a LH Pitcher that throws 92+ and he will probably only get 80%. Jake Rowell has done it for 3 years in a row, Jackson and Carnahan need to stay healthy like Jake for 3 years and then we can talk. Catcher is a tough position and from what I understand Jake has played some 3B as well as 1B.
  5. It seems that the biggest school in the district can only talk smack about the smallest school in the district. I thought the difference in the game this year was not talent but better coaching from Buna's coaching staff. They knew what we were going to do before we did it. Like I have said before the best teams in this district are Deweyville,Buna & East Chambers. JMO

  7. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Funny but true. Why elese would she want to be an umpire. She cut her hair and has to talk deep when she makes a call. Wonder how much this hoss benches? ;D ;D
  8. Biggio one and done to end his great career? Biggio will reveal plans when 'time is right' Astros second baseman Craig Biggio has figured out how he wants his career to end. He just isn't telling anyone yet. "I know exactly what I want to do in my mind," Biggio said. "I'm just hoping it works out that way." The first step for Biggio would be to get the 70 hits he needs for 3,000. His next step might be to announce his retirement, effective at the end of the season. Biggio, 41, hinted at such a plan Tuesday in an interview with FOXSports.com. "When the time is right, I'm going to let everybody know," he says. "I think it's fair to the fans to let them know. I think they should know." He then mentioned former teammate Jeff Bagwell's final appearance in a Grapefruit League game last March. "If a lot of fans knew that was going to be Baggy's last game, they would have filled the stadium," Biggio said. "People would have come out in appreciation of how he played the game over the years. "He just wasn't able to get back from an injury. In general, I'm going to be honest with the fans." By doing so, Biggio would give himself the opportunity to take a victory lap around the National League and allow Astros fans to celebrate the end of a 20-year, likely Hall of Fame career. Cal Ripken took a similar approach with the Orioles in 2001, announcing on June 19 that he intended to retire at the end of the season. Biggio makes no secret of his desire to spend more time with his wife, Patty, and three children — Conor, 14, Cavan, 11, and Quinn, 7. "I love the game. I love my family. And I miss my family," Biggio says. "They've paid a big sacrifice. "As an older player, with your kids getting ready to go to high school, it gets harder and harder each year, especially coming down here (to spring training)." Biggio's agent, Barry Axelrod, says that Biggio has been saying such things for the past four or five years. "As his boys get closer to his high-school years, I think he's dying to be around them more," Axelrod says. "This is the last year of his contract. I guess if he hits .325, maybe they'll talk to us about one more. I can't predict anything. But I would think it's winding down." It has been a pleasure to watch this guy compete day in and day out for almost 20 years. Talk about a true gamer. HOF'er in my book
  9. Geez people! SHUT UP AND PLAY. If anyone posting is hitting 1.000, then talk all you want to. Get off the computer, do some homework, or go practice hitting and throwing so you can let your actions do the talking!
  10. It’s uncalled for in high school sports in my opinion. As a player that played on both levels I have just found it funny when little kids talk trash from behind a fence. But I know it is going to happen at the college level and by grown adults not just kids. Plus I 'm sure some of the things they said had nothing to do with the game (mainly because HJ was never even close), but were straight derogatory remarks towards Dishon. Which is also going to happen in college, but it just gets under my skin when somebody gets on here and brags about it.
  11. I really find it funny when somebody is going to talk trash to an athlete like Dishon. When he is faster then anybody you have in your program, a better football player then anybody you have, a better baseball player then anybody you have, has a higher GPA ( I believe he is ranked highest male in his class), and honestly it would be funny to see any of you say any remarks to him to his face. No matter what you have on BC in basketball you will not have a player sign to a school from any sport that is comparable to LSU. So please show respect to him or any other player that is playing the actual sport. Because by them being on the field they are doing their best in actually competing in a sport, compared to sitting on their butt and drinking. And thanks for all of the details about the kids drinking because I have a friend who is an officer of Hardin County and he will be present at the next home game.
  12. #3 jags you need to stop talking all that trash man you talk so much but then you make an excuse every time yall lose just face the fact and yall better get ready to play friday against PNG because how they played last night against Vidor i bet you they are working extremly hard

  18. I teach Hunters education in Dayton feel free to ask any questions, if you are interested I would be glad to talk about it. March 26, 2007 Hunter Education Instructors Needed AUSTIN, Texas — Hunters 21 and older who find themselves wanting to give back to the activity they love and enjoy should contact the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and become certified as a hunter education instructor. “The department needs men and women to share their love for hunting and the great outdoors by volunteering as an instructor,†said Terry Erwin, hunter education program coordinator. “The Hunter Education Program's goals are to reduce hunting related accidents and violations; promote safe, responsible, knowledgeable and involved hunting practices and enhance conservation efforts, hunting traditions and values. Current instructors include game wardens, volunteers and professional educators, but we need your volunteer help to carry on this valuable tradition.†Prospective instructors must graduate from a state-certified hunter education student course in addition to taking TPWD’s four-hour online training and then attend an 8-hour instructor training workshop and written examination. Other steps include an oral interview by a TPWD game warden. A criminal background check will be conducted and those failing to meet certain standards may be denied certification. Application forms and a schedule of upcoming instructor certification workshops are available by contacting Erwin at (800) 792-1112 ext. 4999 or visit the TPWD web site at www.tpwd.state.tx.us/learning/hunter_education/instruct.phtml
  19. Bettman worried about player safety and injury TORONTO -- NHL commissioner Gary Bettman says fighting is part of hockey and believes some people have been "running off a little too fast on this topic." "My view on fighting hasn't changed," Bettman told The Canadian Press on Monday. "We've never taken active steps or considered eliminating fighting from the game. "I've always taken the view that it's a part of the game and it rises and lowers based on what the game dictates." While Bettman seemed OK with the game's current stand on fighting, he's concerned about the larger safety issues. "The discussion that we've been having is about player safety and injuries," said Bettman. "We've had a number of injuries resulting from fighting recently. "The question is whether or not that's an aberration or whether or not it's something we need to be concerned about." He's not convinced anything needs to change. "I think it's premature for anybody to reach any conclusions," Bettman said. "I think the first [thing] is for us to decide whether or not it's an issue, whether or not there needs to be an adjustment. Because there may not be. "I think people are running off a little too fast on this topic. I know it's an emotional one for a lot of people and it gets a lot of attention, but to have a discussion about whether or not this is an issue is a long way from saying, `Here are the 10 things we need to do."' The recent debate started with Philadelphia Flyers tough guy Todd Fedoruk being taken off the ice on a stretcher last Wednesday night after a fight with the New York Rangers' Colton Orr. The following day, league disciplinarian Colin Campbell said it was time to look at fighting in the game. "I think it's time to ask the question," Campbell said. That simple comment immediately sent shock waves through the hockey world, with players, coaches and general managers weighing in on the issue. Bettman offered his opinion Monday. He expressed concern over the increasing size of players, citing the example of players who have led the league in fighting majors. Garry Howatt held that distinction 30 years ago and was 5-foot-9, 175 pounds. Twenty years ago, it was Chris Nilan of the Montreal Canadiens, who was 6-foot and weighed about 200 pounds. Ottawa Senators tough guy Brian McGrattan had the most majors last season. He's 6-foot-5, 250 pounds. "Players have gotten bigger," Bettman said. "As a result, we at least have to take a look to see what is the consequence of that on player safety." Suggestions about ways to increase safety have been wide ranging. While some have called for fighting to be eliminated completely, Fedoruk said he'd like to see tough guys wear protective gloves like mixed martial arts fighters. Don Cherry, the host of "Coach's Corner" on "Hockey Night in Canada," doesn't believe fighting will ever be banned. "Gary Bettman and I are great friends," he said. "And we both know that fighting has always been part of the game." Bettman thinks all relevant parties should be included in the discussion of whether fighting seriously jeopardizes the health of players. "The PA [players' association] obviously is going to have to be involved," he said. "This is something that's going to have to be discussed with the managers, with the competition committee ... and ultimately the board of governors." The popularity of fighting is not something that influences Bettman's opinion on its place in the sport. In fact, the commissioner doesn't think fighting has helped sell the game in nontraditional U.S. hockey markets. "I've never looked at it that way," Bettman said. "I think fighting has always reached whatever level is appropriate in the game and has been a part of the game. And I don't have a problem with that." The only thing he's concerned about is the players who make the game what it is. If fighting is a threat to their safety, that's the only reason he wants to talk about it. "Nobody wants to see our players injured on a regular basis," Bettman said. "That's the concern." Copyright 2007 by The Associated Press

  24. Hemphill mourns loss of 3 teens killed in car wreck By RYAN MYERS , The Enterprise Pete Churton/The Enterprise Hemphill High School students comfort each other Monday at a memorial for three students who died in a car wreck on Friday. HEMPHILL - Black ribbon, letters to suddenly departed friends. Openly weeping, students embraced Monday at a makeshift memorial near the Hemphill High School band hall. Like these teenagers, Hemphill has opened its heart, sharing a tragic burden. Three young women, Sara Katlyn Click, a sophomore; Sarah Emmaline Adame, a junior; and Sarah Elizabeth Felts, a senior, died Friday in a car wreck near Nacogdoches. In a town of 1,100, each was a well-known figure in a social scene of fewer than 300 high school students. Since the painful news arrived, parents have opened their homes, hosting impromptu gatherings where Hemphill's teens shared stories and grieved together for their friends. Denise Taylor, whose daughter was best friends with Adame, said the community's response has been as powerful as the tragedy. "The way people have turned out, it's like one big family here," Taylor said by phone while her daughter met with friends. "We've lost three beautiful girls who were truly loved," she said. At the high school Monday, principal Marc Griffin said a memorial began over the weekend with students deciding of their own accord to affix letters on a chain link fence near the band hall. Felts played trumpet in the band and Click was a majorette. Amid candles, stuffed animals, paintings and about 100 letters, one page read, "... three little angels we have watched them grow, three little angels we're proud to know." Griffin, born in Hemphill and a graduate of the high school, said counselors were at the school Monday from surrounding towns and nearby universities. Students kept the counselors busy, but Griffin said his faculty was equally affected, as each young woman had a parent or grandparent who works for the Hemphill Independent School District. "It would be hard to talk to anyone in town that didn't know them. We're talking about three well-known, role-model girls," the principal said. Planning for Monday's classes began Saturday, interim Superintendent Glenn Pearson said in his office. "All my administrators and some teachers met Saturday and then I met with them Sunday to plan what to do," Pearson said. Administrators visited each girl's parents, seeking their opinions, then prepared a press release and planned what teachers would say in classrooms, Pearson said. "The community is hurting right now," the superintendent said. The teachers came in early for a meeting; we knew the students would be hurting." An eighth grade track meet Monday night went on as scheduled so students would have a place to meet and talk and avoid being alone, Pearson said. On his way to the track meet, senior Jared Powell said students set aside differences Monday. "The morning was pretty touchy, a lot of awkward silence," Powell said by phone. "But usually everyone hangs out in their own little groups of friends, but today everyone hung out together, helped each other." Sarah Felts was a senior planning for college, described in letters on the memorial as a leader and trustworthy friend. Powell said Sara Click was a family friend and a talented baton twirler who "had fun no matter what the circumstances were." Her principal said Sarah Adame was a talented writer, who with the other girls competed in University Interscholastic League academic competitions. Another Hemphill High School student, 17-year-old Tasha Leann Felts, Sarah Felts' cousin, survived the accident but remained hospitalized Monday. Pearson said Tasha Felts was in serious condition with multiple broken bones but was improving. With Sarah Felts driving, the four girls were on their way to Nacogdoches and Lufkin for shopping and a movie, Griffin said. In a second car in the crash were Tina Smith, 32; Mindy Smith, 8; John Smith, 4; Amber Pierce, 25; and Destiny Pierce, 2, all of San Augustine. Each was listed in serious or stable condition after the wreck, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety. Without much organization, most of Hemphill turned up at a park Saturday night, Taylor said. There were candles; mourners held hands and someone sang "Amazing Grace." The school band then marched in formation, without uniforms or instruments, to the high school. "These kids really love each other up here," Taylor said. "I grew up in a big city. It's not like that here." [email protected]
