  1. When i was a young'n bout 5 er so...i went with my dad to a place in lumberton to get a deer processed and when we went in the cooler a BIG black cat was layin cross one of the racks...i was a lil scared standin in a cold room with 20+ dead carcuses hangin up...and the guy walked to the back and told us they shot this in sourlake...this cat was huge and dark black...looked like it come out tha jungle book...its paws were as big as my chest...it was pretty cool...good memory ( and this is real talk...no bull)
  2. Tremendous coach and man! If you get the chance, you need to sit down and talk with Coach Anderson. Truly a great man.
  3. WB never talks to the players or coaches from the other team, just to their own teamates. So far, they've shown more class than every other team they have played. All they do is try and win ballgames, if this is bush league maybe we should ban dugout talk in South East Texas.
  4. Leaping sturgeon injures Florida woman OLD TOWN, Fla. (AP) -- A sturgeon jumped out of a river and hit a woman riding a personal watercraft causing severe injuries, the latest accident involving the flying fish along the Suwannee River, officials said. Sharon Touchton, 50, of St. Petersburg, suffered a ruptured spleen and had three fingers reattached by surgeons, but she lost her left pinkie finger and a tooth. She had been camping March 31 with a group of personal watercraft enthusiasts near the town of Suwannee in north Florida, said Karen Parker with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. The group went for a ride and Touchton was traveling 25 to 30 mph before the accident. Touchton's husband was the first to come up behind her after the accident and found her floating face-down in the water. No one else saw the collision, so it was initially unclear what had happened. "I thought she was dead," said Nick Touchton, her husband. He remembers dragging her out of the water. She wasn't breathing and he could see that she had bitten through her tongue and it was swelling, choking her. Her fingers had been sheared off by the sharp edge of the sturgeon's bony plate. They were hanging by a strip of flesh. She was taken by helicopter to Shands at the University of Florida in Gainesville, where surgeons did their best to mend her injuries. Parker said once Touchton was able to talk to investigators, she simply said something about a "big fish." Parker said problems with sturgeon - which are large, prehistoric-looking fish with hard plates along their backs that can grow up to 8 feet long and up to 200 pounds - came to a head last year when 10 people were injured in accidents caused by the jumping fish. Parker said the Gulf sturgeon migrate into the Suwannee River in March to spawn, and remain in the river until the fall. Researchers are not sure why the large fish jump.
  5. I could care less about Forest Park or who started it or got it where it was. It's called West Brook now.......... "Just commented on all the hoop-la about how FP beat a team that most any 2A team could have beat THAT nite." name one and lets compare PLEASE!!! Westend..........I have not resided one day in the city of Beaumont.......your comments to any other area I guess would have been tipical Mid-countyitus or Orangeitus ect.......... smite.......i dont play this little side game nor even care how it works.....so you 'smite' want to stick to the subject....... "Can't you guys agree the performance of the opposition was lacking somewhat , but I would NOT expect you FP fans to agree on much coming from ANYONE else." Two teams showed up to play......................Both Teams were sitting atop district 21 5A........one team steped up and shut down the big three hitters for the other team "MIF04 can attest to their stats." Was the opposition lacking.......who cares were they not suppose to play because "they" were not ready??? 643 wants to stress how the other team made too many mistakes and that's the only reason WEST BROOK won............Again, for someone with so much knowlege??.......never mind..........The game of baseball is about making mistakes and the team that makes the fewest comes out on top the majority of the time..........You cant talk baseball with out mentioning mistakes.........The difference between making mistakes and errors are errors get recored but a mistake can happen anywhere on the field (and even off sometimes)..........I'm tired of this free education Im given you!!!
  6. I think Texas got a little nervous with the all the kentucky talk
  7. First, let me start by saying that I did not go to HS in SE Texas so I do not have any personal ties, etc. to any of the area HS. If I do have any long-time allegiance to any of the 'old' HS in Beaumont, it would be French. My roommate on our college baseball team was French...he is one of my best friends, etc. For years, my only contact with Beaumont was with the so-called North End Gang, etc. Second, the comparison of when Hebert, et al closed with the opening of Ozen seems misguided. Those events occurred some 2 decades apart. It does seem strange, though, that BISD would maintain 2 4A schools and 1 5A schools. Those are matters of politics, though, and this is a baseball thread. It seems obvious that our friend '643' has some long-standing issues with Beaumont and the "West End". I don't know what those may be but I would think a run of therapy would go a long with resolving those. He does 'talk' a better game than he delivers, though...there isn't a 2A team in the area that would have beaten Sterling on Monday...errors and walks included. That is not meant to disrespect any of the 2A schools...that is simple fact. Following '6-4-3' 's logic to the end (a dangerous path, I agree), Kountze would've beaten the Cleveland Indians last night since the Indians made 3 errors and walked 7. Whew... I will agree that Sterling did not play their best...but neither did West Brook. That is another fact that '6-4-3' overlooks. WB miscues allowed at least half of Sterling's runs. It is high school baseball. Teams make errors. Pitchers walk hitters. It is part of the game. You don't make the playoffs because you have the best batting average or highest fielding pct...you make the playoffs because you win games. You may win 'em pretty or you may win 'em ugly...you just got to win 'em. Remember, if Sterling did shoot themselves in the foot (or eyes), it was West Brook who nevertheless loaded the gun. For all of the complaining about 'cheerleaders', this guy is a 'cheerleader in reverse'...he roots against people, not for them. And show me where those who are afflicted with the dreaded disease of 'westend-itis' have come on the board and made the same excuses you are making for Sterling? If (and I said 'if') there are any, they are few and far between. I am sure the reply is coming...MIF04 is a 'cheerleader', too (I can live with that one). Maybe the reply will remind us (again?) how he talks to scouts or what his son's career was or wasn't (no problem with that, either...those guys call me all the time). I just think its time for this guy to give it a rest. He needs to pull out the scrap book and remember what could've been instead of taking it out on everyone else. There. I'm done.
  8. Donde está 'Wildcatters, Cowboys games on Southeast Texas radio? By CHRIS DABE, The Enterprise 04/17/2007 Updated 04/17/2007 12:21:08 AM CDT The Texas Wildcatters and Dallas Cowboys found themselves to be alike in at least one aspect Monday. Neither has a Southeast Texas radio home. A format change on KIKR-AM might have left the Wildcatters without an over-the-air radio station for the team's first-ever home playoff game Wednesday night. Wildcatters and Cowboys games had been broadcast on the station before a format change from all sports to a full-time Spanish language format early Monday morning. The change is likely to prevent the Wildcatters from being broadcast over the air in Southeast Texas, said Cumulus-Beaumont vice president and market manager Jim Ray. KIKR is owned by Cumulus-Beaumont. Ray said he was 70 percent certain the Wildcatters would not be put on the radio. Ray said he feared losing a Spanish language listener base by broadcasting the hockey game. "If people are really interested in the games, we figure they'll be there," said Ray, who added that the broadcast would still be available at the Wildcatters Web site. The Wildcatters play at 7 p.m. against the Gwinnett Gladiators. Each team has won once in the best-of-five series. Wildcatters radio announcer Anthony Langella Jr. said he thought the team had a contract with the station for all games, regular season and playoffs, to be broadcast. Langella Jr. said he was disappointed in the change. "But I'm not the person to talk about that," said Langella Jr., referring questions to Wildcatters managing partner Rick Adams. Adams did not return two phone messages Monday. The Wildcatters were not the only team surprised by the format change. Dallas Cowboys affiliate relations manager and senior producer Jon Ingham said he had not known of the format change until a reporter told him Monday. "This is news to me," Ingham said. Ingham said most affiliate agreements are for two years. He said the 2007 season is the second year of the current agreement with KIKR and was unsure if the format change violated the agreement. Ingham said putting the team's Spanish language broadcast on KIKR and shifting the English language broadcast to another Cumulus-Beaumont station might be an option. Ray said he hopes to shift the Cowboys broadcasts to KQYX-FM 94.1, KAYD-FM 101.7 or KTCX-FM 102.5. All are owned by Cumulus-Beaumont. National sports programming formerly on KIKR can be heard on KFNC-FM 97.5, an ESPN Radio station called The Ticket. The station's program director, Jon Madani, said National Football League territorial broadcast restrictions prevented his or any station that reaches within 50 miles of Houston from airing Cowboys games. Madani said the Wildcatters would not be on KFNC. Stations closest to Beaumont to air Cowboys games are KAOK-AM 1400 in Lake Charles and KTBQ-FM 107.7 in the Lufkin/Nacogdoches area
  9. You are only allowed 20 seconds between pitches. You can only talk to a pitcher once in an inning before you have to pull him.
  10. Like I told BC......if you don't want to eat crow, don't talk smack! This quote is from "Bulldog" Didn't see this one comming but boy does it sound good... Congrats HJ you gave Silsbee Jasper what they deserved a reality check!!!!
  11. For one your pitchers only took 20 min. to throw a pitch. The hull coaches started calling timeouts to "talk" with the pitchers. And I was on the mound and it was fine to pitch off of. I've played Little League games in way worse conditions than that.
  12. well they interviewd tim on the news here and sa and he says joe crawford has a personal problem with him....and he only said 3 words to him all night....none of which would have gotten him T'd up....well atleast thats what he says....but looking at the past joe crawford has never really been fair to TD....i think the league needs to sit down with both and have a nice little talk! lol...
  13. Released By MIF04 SETXSPORTS.COM BASEBALL TOP TEN WEEK # 7 Well, boys and girls…we come hip-hopping in on this Easter weekend with our latest rankings. The more things change, the more they remain the same as the same 10 remain (although there is some shuffling going on amongst them). All districts made the turn around the half-way pole and are heading for home with playoffs spots on the line. More interesting (perhaps) is not who is ‘in’ as of now…but how might be knocking on the door with just a little over 3 weeks left in the regular season. 1. BARBERS HILL (1) It appears that no one over in 21-4A can (or will) step up to the Eagles as they outscored their opponents 32-1 this past week. Impressive? No…it seems as if they do that every week. They do have a couple of interesting matchups this week: hosting Crosby on Tuesday (Crosby is currently tied at 5-3 with Huffman for 3rd place) then a Eagles vs. Eagles rumble as BH travels to New Caney to take on the 2nd place (7-1) team. Maybe NC throws Dean, BH throws Hales and we get us a ball game? 2. PORT NECHES GROVES (2) If you’re Jay Stone, all you can say after this week is “Whew!!!!â€. First, you withstand a furious Dayton rally to hang on for an 11-9 win. And you want to talk furious? Trailing 6-0, the Indians strike for 10 runs in the 6th inning (8 with 2 out) to lap Ozen 10-6. So maybe the Indians can now take a deep breath and relax? I think not as its ‘the’ week down there: host 2nd place LCM on Tuesday and then the short trip to the Friday blood letting: PNG @ Nederland. 3. WEST BROOK (3) The Bruins maintain their position (both here and in 21-5A) with a 10-0 ‘run rule’ win over Channelview and a workmanlike 6-3 win over Atascocita. Say what you want about WB’s pitching…no (as in ‘zero’) earned runs last week. Stout performances there. They draw their long-time nemesis Kingwood on Tuesday then Baytown Lee on Friday…both at home. Take care of that business and its ‘mano a mano’ with Baytown Sterling for the district crown. 4. SILSBEE (4) The Tigers struggled through a week-long ‘we beat BC’ hangover, struggling to beat both HF (6-4) and WOS (4-1). Both were come-from-behind wins for Silsbee but, in 21-3A, that’s all that matters right now -- wins. With Jasper’s win over BC, the Tigers control their own destiny but host a HJ team on Thursdaly whose backs are against the wall. They close the week with another home game (Kirbyville on Saturday) then will look ahead for the game for all the marbles…Jasper. 5. JASPER (7) The Bulldogs are our only ‘upward mover’ this week thanks to their nail biting 3-2 win over Bridge City. They find themselves tied for first at 8-1 with Silsbee but need to win that rematch to claim the district crown. They need to get by WOS and HJ this week before the can start laying plans for that game but…what a game that could be. 6. BRIDGE CITY (5) The tumbling continues downward for the Cardinals after their 3-2 loss to Jasper on Tuesday night. They did end their ‘new streak’ when they vented on unsuspecting OF 18-5 on Friday but BC’s hopes for the district crown are now out of their own hands. They need help and a lot of it. Of course, they need to take care of “Job Oneâ€â€¦making the playoffs. They are on the road this week with games at Kirbyville and HF. And, if you’re Bridge City, do you want HJ to beat Silsbee and/or Jasper this week? Or the other way around? 7. LITTLE CYPRESS MAURICEVILLE (6) The Bears lost some ground last week (and, hence lose ground here) when they lost 6-3 to Vidor and had a come-from-behind 14-10 win against Central. LCM still sits in 2nd place in 22-4A but they are as close to being out of the playoffs as they are to winning district (2 games either way). They travel to PNG on Tuesday for a huge game with the Indians before hosting Ozen on Friday. It could be a very ‘interesting’ week for the Bears. 8. VIDOR ( The Pirates rode the roller coaster this past week with a very large win over LCM and the return of injured SS VJ Bunner…then took the down route when they lost a 2-1 duel to Nederland. The Pirates do remain in the thick of the battle for a play-off spot and need to ‘hold serve’ this week when they play the Lumberton Raiders and then tussle in Dayton with the purple-clad Broncos. Big, big game there… 9. BUNA (9) The Cougars remain undefeated in district at 7-0. They seemingly haven’t lost since Carter was President. The entire SETXSPORTS.COM community shares their frustration that their non-district matchup last Saturday vs. BC got rained out but they continue to prove their worth…by winning, and winning, and winning. 10. DAYTON (10) The Broncos came within a whisker of the ‘rally of the year’ when their comeback vs. PNG fell just short, 11-9. They did rebound to ‘lay the wood’ to “This Year’s Central’, the Lumberton Raiders by a 12-0 score and look forward to a week with two home games: Ozen and Vidor. A lot of smoke will clear after the Dayton-Vidor game…or, how knows, it might be cloudier? That’s a way of life in 22-4A. IN, OUT AND OTHER RUMBLINGS: As baseball great Satchell Paige said, “Don’t look back…someone might be gaining on youâ€â€¦and those words could have been spoken about District 22-4A where the Nederland Bulldogs have climbed out of the grave and find themselves only a game out of the playoffs as the 2nd half is now underway. With PNG at 8-0, the Indians look untouchable for the post season but from there: LCM at 6-2, Vidor and Dayton at 5-3 and, yes, Nederland at 4-4...its anyone’s ball game. By next weekend, you’ll have a LCM vs. PNG game. PNG vs. Nederland. Dayton vs. Vidor…and there could be a whole lot of shaking going on there. Huffman finds itself tied with Crosby at 5-3 for the last spot in 22-4A after the Falcons got sawed off by New Caney. Silsbee holds the cards (no pun intended) in 21-3A with only one game left with Jasper. Jasper and BC also have a matchup scheduled in a couple of weeks. And, the Hawks from HJ find themselves only a game behind BC…but have games left with each of the Big 3. Put up or shut up time up in Sour Lake. REMINDER: the 21-3A schedule this week is on a Thursday-Saturday rotation. Don’t ask me why…Over in 22-3A, the Liberty Panthers lead at 5-0 followed by Tarkington at 4-1. There is a log jam at 2-3 (Splendora, Coldspring and Shepherd) with only Cleveland (0-5) seemingly out of the hunt there. West Brook won the rematch with Atascocita and put some space between them and the remainder of 21-5A in that district’s playoff battle. The Bruins trail only the Sterling Rangers (by a game) with that rematch scheduled for the week following. And, lastly…a couple of ‘shout outs’ to two other schools. Woodville continues to excel, running its district record to 6-2 while Evadale extended its winning streak to 9 with a 14-1 win over the West Hardin Oilers. Have a Happy Easter.
  14. Everyone has a great point.....but its the same situation in every media.....take this site for example......unless there are people registered to this site from all schools in all the districts, only the schools we are personally associated with get coverage. (Don't get me wrong---I am not complaining about this website. I really appreciate this website and I am so glad to finally have a place to go to check out whats going on in our prospective districts---so keep up the good work). I have always felt like the Bmt. paper covers the areas of interest of whomever may be reporting. This, of course is just my opinion, and we all know the old saying about opinions..............we all have one ;D As far as the television sports reports go....well...thats a "whole other ballgame"...they are usually waiting for someone to call a score in...so........................if you want your team score reported on the local news call it in yourself (and try to talk to a "real person" and not an answering machine). Thanks again SETXSPORTS for all the added bonuses of this website. The more I type the more I realize how beneficial you guys are. So......If you want recognition--speak up and speak out. Send in your own stories and photos. People are out there who will listen. You got my attention.
  15. Listen JV, I could probably help you with your swing; shorten up that stride, keep your head in, pick up some power with extension, improve your inside - out motion, stay in the strike zone a little longer to hit to all fields, and adjust to 2 strike situations. But you would rather talk theory.... go read your books. Let the kids hit!
  16. I love how you say vidor wins 6-3 and you say it was lackluster. then when you talk about westbrook winning 7-2 it was a trouncing!! a trouncing is nederland beating central 14-5.
  17. Guys, if you want to talk about Coach Turgeon talk about it here, otherwise take the "smack" talk somewhere else.
  18. Imus like Stern gets paid to stir the pot. He could have said "man those were some ugly girls" in stead of "man some nappy headed ho's" but because he took a slang language the black culture brought to the public and used he gets villified for it? I just cant agree. It should have been over and done with the apology, no suspension, nothing like that. Found this one article, written by a black columnist, who seems to get the point.... COMMENTARY Imus isn’t the real bad guy Instead of wasting time on irrelevant shock jock, black leaders need to be fighting a growing gangster culture. By JASON WHITLOCK - Columnist Thank you, Don Imus. You’ve given us (black people) an excuse to avoid our real problem. You’ve given Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson another opportunity to pretend that the old fight, which is now the safe and lucrative fight, is still the most important fight in our push for true economic and social equality. You’ve given Vivian Stringer and Rutgers the chance to hold a nationally televised recruiting celebration expertly disguised as a news conference to respond to your poor attempt at humor. Thank you, Don Imus. You extended Black History Month to April, and we can once again wallow in victimhood, protest like it’s 1965 and delude ourselves into believing that fixing your hatred is more necessary than eradicating our self-hatred. The bigots win again. While we’re fixated on a bad joke cracked by an irrelevant, bad shock jock, I’m sure at least one of the marvelous young women on the Rutgers basketball team is somewhere snapping her fingers to the beat of 50 Cent’s or Snoop Dogg’s or Young Jeezy’s latest ode glorifying nappy-headed pimps and hos. I ain’t saying Jesse, Al and Vivian are gold-diggas, but they don’t have the heart to mount a legitimate campaign against the real black-folk killas. It is us. At this time, we are our own worst enemies. We have allowed our youths to buy into a culture (hip hop) that has been perverted, corrupted and overtaken by prison culture. The music, attitude and behavior expressed in this culture is anti-black, anti-education, demeaning, self-destructive, pro-drug dealing and violent. Rather than confront this heinous enemy from within, we sit back and wait for someone like Imus to have a slip of the tongue and make the mistake of repeating the things we say about ourselves. It’s embarrassing. Dave Chappelle was offered $50 million to make racially insensitive jokes about black and white people on TV. He was hailed as a genius. Black comedians routinely crack jokes about white and black people, and we all laugh out loud. I’m no Don Imus apologist. He and his tiny companion Mike Lupica blasted me after I fell out with ESPN. Imus is a hack. But, in my view, he didn’t do anything outside the norm for shock jocks and comedians. He also offered an apology. That should’ve been the end of this whole affair. Instead, it’s only the beginning. It’s an opportunity for Stringer, Jackson and Sharpton to step on victim platforms and elevate themselves and their agenda$. I watched the Rutgers news conference and was ashamed. Martin Luther King Jr. spoke for eight minutes in 1963 at the March on Washington. At the time, black people could be lynched and denied fundamental rights with little thought. With the comments of a talk-show host most of her players had never heard of before last week serving as her excuse, Vivian Stringer rambled on for 30 minutes about the amazing season her team had. Somehow, we’re supposed to believe that the comments of a man with virtually no connection to the sports world ruined Rutgers’ wonderful season. Had a broadcaster with credibility and a platform in the sports world uttered the words Imus did, I could understand a level of outrage. But an hourlong press conference over a man who has already apologized, already been suspended and is already insignificant is just plain intellectually dishonest. This is opportunism. This is a distraction. In the grand scheme, Don Imus is no threat to us in general and no threat to black women in particular. If his words are so powerful and so destructive and must be rebuked so forcefully, then what should we do about the idiot rappers on BET, MTV and every black-owned radio station in the country who use words much more powerful and much more destructive? I don’t listen or watch Imus’ show regularly. Has he at any point glorified selling crack cocaine to black women? Has he celebrated black men shooting each other randomly? Has he suggested in any way that it’s cool to be a baby-daddy rather than a husband and a parent? Does he tell his listeners that they’re suckers for pursuing education and that they’re selling out their race if they do? When Imus does any of that, call me and I’ll get upset. Until then, he is what he is — a washed-up shock jock who is very easy to ignore when you’re not looking to be made a victim. No. We all know where the real battleground is. We know that the gangsta rappers and their followers in the athletic world have far bigger platforms to negatively define us than some old white man with a bad radio show. There’s no money and lots of danger in that battle, so Jesse and Al are going to sit it out.
  19. Aaron has had the proper training and it shows in his mechanics, could be a little better on the mental part of the game but that will come easily. I had a talk with his dad about not showcaseing him last yr and he's checking into some JUCO tryouts. I'm thinking, (although it has been said that I can't reconginize talent), if he don't get a offer he will walk on easily at most JUCOs and will end up recieving a ride of some sort when his ability shines.
  20. Jackson and Sharpton are idiots, but that does not make Imus right. He was broadcasting on a nationally syndicated radio show. He can't be allowed to speak of people like that. Heck, even on this little ole SETX forum, Coop wouldn't allow any of us to call anybody names like what he used. Would Coop be keeping us from free speech? I totally agree about how Sharpton and Jackson make issues with things, even like this with Imus, but just because I don't like those two guys, doesn't mean i agree with what Imus did. Heck, what if it were one of our daughters he was talking about. I'd want to beat the crap out him. Bottom line, people shouldn't talk about people that way, no matter the color. IMO.
  21. Why is it everytime someone makes a reply back they got to be a kid talking noise. And you were right about just givin the stats when asked but how is it that all you ever talk about is walden like he is the best thing that has ever came through southeast texas or something. Almost everything you post is good about kountze and walden and how they are so good. And dont get me wrong kountze is pretty good. But also all you ever do is talk negative about buna in every aspect. So it sounds to me like a proud dad or grandpa or someone related to walden, is talking all this. But that is just my opinion.
  22. Well when you talk about team.....TEAM...means everyone.....and kirbyville highschool has been district champs for i don't know how long....Team wise they ROCK!!! Congrats on winning District Champs 07
  23. If Newton played a lack luster weak pre season schedule we would have been undefeated going into the playoffs also..... So when you can beat Newton, (East Chambers) then you can talk....... Anyway back to what I was saying what team did you play Bucs that was anygood? Exactly when you finally played a team that was good you got your butts handed to you so what does that tell you????????
  24. I'm aware it was a joke also.....that's why I would rather talk to people in person, you can't really get the tone down while you type.....Sometimes when you're joking around, people read it as if you're angry at them. I was just messin' around Pluto.
