  1. One time when I worked for DW, we weren't playing well against a BC team that was 0-10 that year (Conway's first year), and he took our players to the practice field at halftime and did form tackling drills the entire time.  Classic!  Also, remember how he used to bite his tongue when he was really pissed?  I also remember "You are a MORON!" "You justr SORRY" and "God Dang IDIOT" coming from him a few times.  One of these days his old players and coaches should have a "Roast" like they used to do in the old days.  Have a nice dinner and tell DW stories.  It would be fun.

  2. I was not there, but my cousin was on the 1994 LCM team and he told me at halftime of the WO-S game, DW didn't say a word, he just went to the chalk board and drew an elaborate drawing of a castle.  He then drew a crude looking outhouse next to it, turned to the kids and said, "Where do you want to be when this is over? The Penthouse or the Outhouse?". It really fired them up!

  3. It is a shame that adults do not understand sarcasm anymore!  I Am closer to DW than anyone on this board and I think he is one of the three greatest men I have ever met. He is also the best FB Coach I have ever seen, bar none.  Unfortunately, the community had a very short memory and the "he can't coach" came from them, not me.  DW gave LCM 33 years of faithful service and he did not even get a "thank you" when he left.  They should name the stadium after him!  Then this new coach comes in and wins 8 games in two years and they think he is the greatest thing since sliced bread. I was merely comparing the records of each man's first two years, 8-12 for the current coach, 20-3 for DW. You do the math!

  4. It seems that Year 3 of the Moody regime should procduce a district, if not state champion.  After all, he was 5-5 last year. He has a great program if left alone, he will definitely be there when the chips are down.  Coach Moody is the best thing to happen to LCM since David Williams went 36-11 in his first four years(32-8 in regular season).  I figure since DW couldn't even coach, this guy should be ready to win state!

  5. William Morrissey from Silsbee and the Mohica kid from Ned were the best two D Linemen I ever coached against.  One year against Silsbee, our whole plan was to go away from Morrissey.  The best LB I remember was Aubrey Brisendine from Ned and Gayron Allen of WOS.  Offensively, I remember Shanderrick Charles fropm Lincoln, Dustin Long from PNG at QB, Summrall from NED as a RB, The Lively Brothers from Silsbee were great linemen.  The Mayhew brothers were pretty good too.

From my playing days I remember a WO-S RB named Eric Williams, Saillier from Lincoln, Roderick Robertson and Rick Orebo from WOS.  Speedy Cooper and Malcolm Andrepont from Beaumont South Park, Mark LeBlanc from BC, Bo Brown from Vidor, Willie Cade from Jasper

As a child I remember Bryand Ward from BC, Don Richards from LCM, Teddy Gibbens from LCM, Chris Gunn from LCM, Rocky Gonzales from LCM, Bud Adams from Hebert, Spanky Broussard from Cleveland, Jerry Ball and Gerlad Landry from West Brook, Champine from WO, not WOS, but WO Chiefs, Craig Couvillion, Wendell Rhodes Stark High Tigers and many others i probably can't remember.

  6. I know Briggs and Matthews and I like both of them very much. I think they are both good men and could do any job they were given. I also think that plain and simple, your district "powers that be" are angry at Jeff about the last time it was open and he wouldn't take it. (Remember, these are the same people that didn't think Todd Dodg was good enough.)  I think Briggs hurt his chances by being out of coaching for the past 2 years.

  7. I have never seen the Gooch kid play, but I have seen him in person. one thing I learned about college coaches in my time as a HS Coach is that they like linemen who can pass the "door test". That is they can fill up the entire doorway whenthe enter the room. Alot of times, colleges give very little regard to the quality of coaching a player receives in HS and they all believe that if they get a kid the right size, they can make a football player out of him through their coaching. I am sue the kid has been coached well by Coach Brandow and he may surprise alot of people when he gets to the 40 acres. Another point is that All-District teams are not always the best players, especially in the interior line. Good Luck to this young man as he takes it to the next level.

  8. That is a great article about a great young man who represented himself, his school, and community in a positive way. In this day of "specialization" in High School sports, Johnny Dishon demonstrated to everyone what an athlete who cares about his school and his teammates is all about. Football is a very tough sport with alot of chances for injury, and with a D-1 baseball scholarship in hand, Johny could have easily said 'Thnaks but no thanks", but he didn't and that what makes him, in my mind a class act. I have never me the young man, but I wish him well in all of his future endeavors, athletically and otherwise.
