  1. I don't know if you can call this a bone head play, but: Down 20, in the fourth quarter, LCM coach called on his team to punt. The QB said in the huddle, "Lets run a fake." Direct snap to the up back results in a fifty yard TD scamper.
  2. Say it ain't so BOJO, say it ain't so! Looks like the revolving door has begun to spin again!
  3. Program success is a difficult thing to put your finger on. If it was easy to have a successful football program, then everyone would do it. I believe coaching is a factor, but quite frankly, I also believe that most of the coaches in Texas are at least capable and seldom are games won or lost on coaching alone. I believe there must be a true committment within the school district to be successful at football. It has to be important from the Superintendent all the way down to the guy who washes the jockstraps at the field house. The school needs to be supportive of the program from top to bottom. The community has to be supportive from top to bottom. All of your truly great programs have tremendous school and community support. Unfortunately at some schools, Athletics and Football are just an afterthought that the top brass would like to eliminate if they could so they could go home early on Thursday and Friday nights. Great Programs have an atitude oif doing everything better than their opponents, no matter what it takes to do that. At some schools, coaches who are new to the district miss football time attending "New Teacher Orientation", at other places, this would be unheard of. At some schools, coaches do not have to attend in service meetings during two a days, at other schools, coaches have to plan their two a days around teacher inservice. At some schools they have 4 Jr High Coaches for the same amount of boys that other schools have 1 or 2 coaches for. There are always differences on many levels and the great programs practice winning at every angle. Just my take on it!
  4. 2-2 Lost to Rice Consolidated and Wimberley, beat Poteet and Goliad. Play Gonzales this week, big rivalry game. About the same position we were in last year, went on to win the district title, hope we can do it again this year. Only time will tell. Yes we do have a giant Watermelon Water Tower.
  5. You are right, I played with Greg Harmon and he was really a good player. Peveto and Wade Fredrick were also good. What about OWEN JOHNSON! He was the one ejected during that fight with Jasper. He was tough! You always forget somebody when you try to do these lists.
  6. The nicest would have to be maybe Lumberton. It has A/C and is an actual dressing room. The worst would have to be at the BABE (Central) it is like a little box they would put POW's in to sweat them out!

  9. First of all I would like to say I have known Randy Crouch all my life and you will not find a better man anywhere. That has nothing to do with coaching, but I will also say you will not find a better coach anywhere. The fact that people are able to come on these boards and rip a man like Coach Crouch is laughable. I agree with the earlier poster who said you should go up to the school sometime and follow the coaches around and see what they do in a day or week. I worked for a man one time who called in one of the local "Monday Morning Quarterbacks" and asked him to draw the defensive front and coverage from the previous night's opponent. Of course the man couldn't and ended up looking like a buffoon. That is what would happen to most of these so called "critics" on this board I imagine. Is the current OC at WO-S perfect, no, but then who is. Even the best of us make mistakes. As far as pointing out where he has stumbled, I defer to the great Teddy Roosevelt who said (and I am paraphrasing) "the credit goes to the man who is actually in the arena and if he fails at least fails while daring greatly. And he will never be lumped in with the timid souls who know neither victory nor defeat." The biggest mistake Crouch has made is putting up with the abuse he has taken over the last few years when he could easily go anywhere in Texas (or Louisiana for that matter) and be welcomed with open arms. The fact is you have done better with Randy Crouch than you would have done without him! PS. Ask around and find out who really called the reverse on the goal line against Giddings> You might be surprised at what you find.
  10. I am glad this game moved to Saturday, now maybe more of the football fans in the area will get a chance to see first hand what LCM is all about this season. We will pound Kashmere. A couple of night's ago I was lying in bed when I heard a noise outside, kind of like a low rumbling. My wife said "is that Hurricane Humberto I hear?" and I said "No Honey, it is a force stronger than any hurricane it's. it's:" BOJO..BOJO..BOJO..BOJO..BOJO..BOJO..BOJO..BOJO..BOJO..BOJO..BOJO..BOJO.. 13. Here is a few questions I came up with I thought people would like to try and answer. 1. Who was the Head Coach at Beaumont French High School when they tied Odessa Permian for the State Title in 1984? 2. Who was the Head Coach at West Orange-Stark before Dan Hooks? 3. Where did Vidor Head Coach Jeff Matthews play college football? 4. Who was the leading rusher for Bridge City in 1979? 5. What current NFL Head Coach once coached at Stark High School in Orange, Texas? 6. What was the mascot of Beaumont South Park High School? 7. Who was the Head Coach at Nederland before Larry Neumann? Answers: 1. Steve Shaver 2. Steve McCarty 3. McNeese State 4. Bryan Ward 5. Wade Phillips --Dallas Cowboys 6. Greenies 7. Bobby August I know these are easy, does anyone have any other questions that might be a little tougher. Let's hear 'em.
