I thought the topic was "who is the best point guard in SETX?", not "who could potentially be the best point guard at the next level?". ;)
I still think they are the best PGs in the area! They are not listed as such but they handle those duties for their individual teams!!! On this level, AAW!!!!  :o

The best two PG's in SETX don't play their natural positions in High School.  This is the handicap given to alot of kids from smaller schools and non-prep or private schools.  When you are the best player on your team and you are a guard, you are automatically put into the 2-guard role in high schools with little talent.  These kids are both 6'2" and would play their natural positions at larger schools and both would be much higher recruited if they did.  I have watched them both run the offenses, score, make the right pass, and play really good defense.  One of the kids could play on the level poor man's John Wall with his athleticism if the coaching was there to push him to his potential. Both are more naturally PG by heith and ability but are forced to play off the ball because they score so well.  Both have to force their game because of the lack of coaching to put them in a place to be most successful.  The kids I am speaking of?  Smith (poor man's Wall) of Central and Green of Ozen!
Sometimes it just don't pay to be 6'2" in high school
I agree Dove, eventhough you are a natural point, you get thrown in at 2guard while some 5'7" kid starts at the point!
3. If this group stayed together one more year minus Johnson, it would be a National title, but that is not the current state of College basketball!! If UT only loses Hamilton & Johnson, they would still be scary good.  The big whole is only having one 4 star forward recruit coming in.  Barnes has absolutely only three potential forwards on next years team if Thompson doesnt leave.  Wangmene, Thomas, 6'9" High Schooler Johnathan Holmes.  If Thomas leaves with Hamilton, Texas is in Big Trouble for next season!!!!!  I hope DeAndre Daniels and Kevin Thomas ink their offers too!

I only talked about next season because I believe Texas is still one year away from being a consistant top ten team.

Next Years Starting 5

Thompson
Holmes
Brown
Kabongo
Joseph

Bench (shallow)
Wangmene
McClellan
Julien Lewis

5. I used to believe you needed great talent to win State.  Dont get me wrong it helps greatly.  But then you see alot of State champs who had no players have any college impact.  Some teams with great players that are a beast in college, end up losing to a better coached less talented squad in highschool.  Examples:

Ft Bend Bush went to State last year when Bellaire had way more pure talent!
Yates had 6'10 Anthony Jones (Baylor), Joseph, and Peters and lost to a Wheatly team with no next level talent!
Texas Tech Mike Singleton stared three years at Tech, but lost to a Duncanville team with couple of College bench players
None of the members of FW Dunbar that beat Ozen went directly to a D1 school, while Perk is now a pro, Chappell started D1, Dabney Started D1, Brekenridge played D1, Young started D1
The team with Deron Williams and Bracey Wright did'nt even make the State game that year!

Central has some athletes and two basketball players!!! That is enough to compete in 4A!
6. Skill level is not a problem... Coaching is... Central has the athletes to win, but the coaching does not improve there skills.  These kids have been good players since coming to Central but the coaching and guidance hasn't helped improving thier skills.  The coaching is failing these kids.  Basketball fundamentals!

Skills?  All Central has players that handle the rock well, has the leapers, has a brute, and has the shooters.... Those are skills.

What they don't have is fundamentals.  When to shoot, how to move the ball, when not to dribble, how to deliver the pass, how to play position defense, and how to beat a particular defense! Those are all about the coaching!  Central is lacking in that area! BISD let me down with this coaches hire! Especiallly after what the examiner released about him.  There is enough talent for Central to be a very good squad!
7. I guess I should say why I dont like him as the head coach!  Central plays a pesky half court defense, but the press rarely works.  Its a timing issue.  But this guy stayed in the press while Ozen pulled away on ly-ups.  Unlike Yates, Central doesnt play that way for 38 minutes.  The press is improperly coached and you can see it from the sidelines.  I watched his players not use the backboard on lay-ups.  Missed alot because of it!  nHe never corrected them in the game, maybe because he never teaches them the right way to shoot lay-ups from the jump.  The half court D is impressive because of natural ability, not because of the scheme.  It is very chaotic!  Another sign of his lack of ability is the fact that he pulls you when you make 1 mistake.  Now sometimes that is needed.  But he never takes the time to coach the kid when he comes to the sideline! It is like a punishment and you can see the body language on the kids when it happens.  Personnel wise he I think his line up should change. He has a 6'2 and a 6'3 close to 4 kid that lives on springs.  They should both start in the middle, instead of going four guards.
8. Bball goes in cycles around BMT.  Currently we are in a down cycle, and you can tell by how short the teams are! Currnetly football is BIG in BMT.  If all of the talent had not funneled to OZzen in the beginning of the decade the drop off may not have been that bad overall.  Ozen enjoyed 10 years of being awesome while the other schools were decent.  It should have been three great teams... But I would change the Austin trips for the nothing!

The really bad thing is that Rice did not have the talent pool, his coaching short comings stood out more!  It was hi first job.  The funny thing is that he learned from Simon over at Westbrook!!!  That is a crying shame no one calls him out.  He has actually had the talent to field some great teams, but his shortcomings are so large that those teams look just decent.

I still dont like the new coach at Central but I dont pay the bills either!
9. 1st team

Kendrick Perkins
Clearence Matthews
Jacovin Brown
Aston Hall
Tramain Thomas

2nd Team

Jake MicWilliams
Keena Young
Trey Peters
Trey McDowell
Kris richards

3rd Team

Ryan Danahoe
Jamar Gulley
Dominic Keller
Richard Neatherly
Mike Thomas

Left off Frank because of his trash senior season
Breon almostt made it.
Left off Stallworth because he is 2011
Coffey, Dominique Young, & Keithan Hancock were tough to leave off

This is a very early decade heavy team!!!

Pupmom are you serious? Both teams fought hard and played well! Ball is the #6 ranked team in the country. Do you even know basketball?
In what country is Ball the #6 team?
I don't know where you get your information but Ball is NOT ranked in any of the major national polls. They are ranked #1 in 4A in Texas.

The only Texas team ranked in the USA Today is Yates... The #6 team is St. Anthonys, NJ!

Christian Life over Nederland.
Yep!
what u pick BLUE ;D ;D ;D
I ain't picking, CATMAN. I don't know enough about Ball, but I do know they have some good players. One of those kids will crash the boards, don't know his name.
Terran Petteway  6-5
That must be him. About 6'5". He use to practice in LaMarque and I would sit and watch him. A beast. I saw him wreck havoc playing with the Galveston Hornets (?) and they had one of the top teams in Houston this past summer. A beast.
Yes he is kin to Terrell.  Ball will be a tough out!  Humble hasthe most individual talent, but doesn't play good team ball!  Easily they could win this Tourney!  Not knowing what Forthworth has, I will go with Ball over Silsbee

We've got a pretty good team again this year. Going into the spring I honestly didn't know that we'd be able to replace the Flentroys in the backcourt (Both started for four years.), Tevin Harris and Kris Gulley. I just didn't count on Montrael Scott taking a huge step forward and being able to play the 1, 2 or 3. We lost to Lincoln a couple of weeks ago, the probable 4A region II representative in Austin, 83-75 without our starting center who was still with the football team in the playoffs as the starting QB. With Pearson's 6'7" frame out there at center now, I feel better about our chances to make it back to The Drum for a 3rd straight year. Scott hit eight 3's against Lincoln and scored 36 and Anthony Hollins scored 27 in that one. Those two kids are the equal of any duo in 3A when they're on. To have two guys at the 3A level that can give you 30+ on any night is a luxury. Hollins is one of the best players in the Class of 2012 in Texas and he's fully healthy now after breaking his wrist on his shooting hand last year (It cost him the first 20 or so games of the season.). Region II is a minefield though and there's several really, really good teams we'd have to go through just to get to the regional final.

We have four guys right now that will at some point receive D1 scholarship offers in Scott, Hollins, Bryce Pearson and JD Wallace. Robert Pearson, a sophomore PG (No relation to Bryce. His brother is actually Anthony Hollins.) will also play some ball at D1 school if he can get to at least 5'10" or so. Wallace, a 6'6" sophomore is probably the best of the group, but he's got a long way to go in understanding the game. He might be the best athlete to ever suit up for Madison's basketball team, but he has the physical tools to get there.

The crazy thing is that there is not even a 6'4" baller on WB or Central.... It is so weird to me!  Ozen does get alot of the height and they are the only current bball progam in BMT
What about PA Memorial? Any bigs?
PA keeps nice size... At least a 6'6 plus.  And alot of there skill guys are around 6'3!
15. It would be nice if the site put up one of those permenant forum capsule (you know the ones that stay at the top) with the area bball teams rosters including height and classification!  Maybe we could get a committe that makes that happen.

This might be too much to ask for, but maybe once district starts (because the preseason is difficult to follow) we can get district stats leaders.  I sure we could get a committee to do that too.  Like the chronicle for houston, we could be the place for our talent's showcase!

Maybe the coaches will be willing to provide this info?
