  1. Don't get me wrong I like JV football. I sat in the rain in Silsbee last Thursday watching JV football. But only because my son was playing. The only people at JV games are usually their parents and a few students. Most people don't get hyped up or travel to watch JV games. JV football is like minor league baseball in that what you do doesn't count until you play in the majors against the big boys. My son started on the Varsity level as a 10th grader but the coaches felt he needed to work on some stuff so he got sent down. He realizes that his high school career will be judged by Varsity play only. That was the point I was trying to make. Nothing against the younger kids.
  2. I didn't mean we would have a postseason. But we still have 4 games left to shock SETX.
  3. 1. WOS 2 Sisbee? 3 Kirbyville/BC? WOS without a doubt. WOS will make 21-3A proud in the playoffs. Silsbee can not play like they played against HF and make the playoffs. They proved to the teams left on their schedules that they can be beaten. I wasn't impressed by their team. They did win the game but a undermanned and undertalented HF team was in it to the very end. If they do make it they will lose in the first round if they continue to play like that. I can only go by the records of Kirbyville and BC for two and three. We haven't played them yet. The rest of the teams are too inconsistent for anyone to make a good judgement call other than with their heart. The final two positions probably won't be decided until the last two weeks of the reg. season. There will be a few teams trying to be spoilers those last couple of Fridays.
  4. I've heard where some of the top guys have verbally committed to go to college. But what about the other local guys? Post any info you have on your teams players that are being recruited, what teams are trying to recruit them, who they are leaning toward and whether they have verbally committed yet. Be sure to keep updating with new info. as soon as you hear it. HF I haven't heard of anyone on our team getting recruited. We are very young and don't have a whole lot of seniors. The next couple of years may be different at the skill positions. At Senior level-one of our rec/dbs seemingly has D1 college ability but not college desire. Our FB with a weight gain of 20 or more pounds and improved blocking could play D2 or below. Two D lineman and a LB could probably play at 1AA or below levels if they can prove they can change to LBs or safetys at the next level because they are undersized. Speed may be a problem for them also. Some may get calls from the JCs after graduation fallout (low SAT and low grades) by the D1 prospects is sorted out. A nice post season run would also help. No Juniors being recruited at this time. I'll update if I get any new info.
  5. Does it really matter?!? This post must of been started by a kid who plays JV! I've got a kid on a JV team and even if they were undefeated (which they are not) this team will never play as a whole when it really counts at the Varsity level. The smaller and or slower guys will be backups or quit. You can't place any value on what they are doing now wins or loses. We have a group of 10th graders that have only lost 3 or less games in the last 3 years but were broken up with 6 or 7 of them on Varsity. Those left on JV were either too small and or slow or quit to be full time baseball players. A couple were on Varsity but sent down to get reps at either a different position or the same position so that they can help next years team or for a November callup to finish out the regular season.
  6. In 5A and 4A if you play baseball you don't do spring practice. The problem HF would have is all the QBs and the RBs play baseball. We wouldn't have the real squad for coaches to make any decisions. Its hard enough to get the baseball coaches to allow baseball players to run track they couldn't possibly do all three.
  7. I'd follow WOS. They are so dominate. I don't see anyone beating them until semis or finals. That includes Silsbee!
  8. HF gets off this week. Limits turnovers and runs the ball down Jaspers throat. Lot of scoring in this game!! HF 13 Jasper 7
  9. When I said best I meant athletically it may not transfer to baseball field. They will presumably be at their best as seniors. Definately not this year. We probably won't make the playoffs. There will have to be some guys pitch that hadn't pitched in a few years. Hopefully some of the ones that quit football to go strickly baseball are getting coached up on the mound or playing fall ball. Guy could be who you are talking about I know one of them is the punter/kicker on the football team.
  10. SilsbeeD- Can you guys let us win something? We won the battle of turnovers! 3 ints( I thought 4) and 3 fumbles to your measly 2 fumbles. We are the turnover KINGS!!
  11. HF could have been the upset winner tonight. Too many turnovers. We probably would have 2 to 3 more wins without the turnovers.
  12. That would be hadn't won a game the whole year! Ignore me because we are both 0-3 in district after tonight! One of us will have a win next friday. I hope its us! :?
  13. The last place team is Jasper they haven't a game the whole year!!
  14. HF jv is made up about 1/2 soph and juniors. They all are ok players but most are undersized for their positions. Our better players (sophs) who would have been on this team are on varsity because of their speed and are starting. Probably the best three jv players are on Offense. The QB was a starting WR on varsity. Made plays when he got touches but we haven't thrown the ball well on varsity. He was sent down and allowed to play QB. He is very fast and athletic. He did real well against HJs jv. We also had a soph RB that was sent down to get reps. Hes undersized but fast and instinctive. The running ability of the QB has opened lanes for him to run up the middle. We have a junior WR who should have played varsity but was overlooked by the coaches because of his short stature. He is very fast, athletic, and catches everything thrown his way. I'm unsure of the win lost record. But just as the others have said in the other posts its hard to gauge good play on jv because if the players were real good they probably would be on varsity playing or backups. That all depends on the depth ahead of them. I anticipate a few of these guys getting called up to varsity if we continue to lose.
  15. Is Carmona the backup varsity QB this season or the jv QB? What grade is he in?
  16. To Barbers Hill people: Your QB this season is a senior right? If I read correctly the starter didn't have any exp. as a QB before this season. So were all the other QBs not good enough to play or was he more athletic than them? Is an athletic QB what the coaches want at BH? Just needing a little info. for the future
  17. HF will be very young this year. 12 seniors graduated last year. 4 returners 1 junior starting OF, 1 senior who alternated at 3rd, and 2 soph who were called up at the end of the year to run bases a few times. It may be a exciting year. Our soph class is probably the best class to ever come thru HF some played JV last year. Pitching may be a problem.
  18. WOS beat HF 54-0. HJ beat HF by 6. 54-6=48 So WOS beats HJ 48-0!!!
