How would you rank SETX Past State Championship Teams
Mr. Thomas replied to Boogy1000's topic in High School Boys Basketball
The Kountze and Silsbee teams are among the best to come through SETX, but in my opinion, they are not better than the teams on my list. What is your top 10? -
How would you rank SETX Past State Championship Teams
Mr. Thomas replied to Boogy1000's topic in High School Boys Basketball
****Updated**** Winning a state championship is how legends are created. According to my research, Southeast Texas has won 40 state basketball championships. I consider any city/town within a 35-mile radius of Beaumont to be in Southeast Texas. The first overall state championship in any sport dates back to 1925, when Beaumont High (formerly Beaumont Central) won the basketball title, and the last State Championship was in 2025, when Beaumont West Brook won. Putting things into basketball perspective in Southeast Texas, Beaumont has 11, Port Arthur has 10, Buna has 7, Kountze has 5, Hardin Jefferson has 3, Silsbee has 2, Orange has 1, and Evadale has 1. There have been so many incredible teams that it's hard to rank a top ten without excluding some great teams. Now, let me attempt to answer the original question: "Who would you rank 1-10 from teams that won state like PA Lincoln, Hebert, Ozen, Kountze, Silsbee, West Brook, and United. Who would be #1? All State Championship Teams: 1. Beaumont Hebert 4A1981 (35-2) (Coach Fred Williams) 2. Port Arthur Lincoln 4A 1986 (33-1) (Coach Gamble) 3. Beaumont Ozen 4A 2001 (36-0) (Coach Boutte) 4. Beaumont United 5A 2022 (36-3) (Coach Green) 5. Port Arthur Lincoln 4A 1984 (32-3) (Coach Gamble) 6. Port Arthur Lincoln 4A 1995 (35-3) (Coach Boutte) 7. Beaumont United 5A 2021 (31-0) (Coach Green) 8. Beaumont Hebert 3A 1980 (35-2)(Coach Fred Williams) 9. Port Arthur Lincoln 4A 1991 (34-3) (Coach Boutte) 10. How would you rank SETX Past State Championship Teams
Mr. Thomas replied to Boogy1000's topic in High School Boys Basketball
They were really good, but their record was 40-0, which is very impressive. The LaPorte Team is definitely one of the greatest teams. -
All points that you made were valid, especially this point, "There are tons of huge guys that didn’t make it..." Again, If you are so kind to purchase the book, you will find out and understand my point very clearly. That team had 7 D1 players on the team which included an NFL Guy. Big Perk definitely played a huge role in the teams success but that team was pretty deep... I digress...
-
If you read the book you will gain a better understanding about the process... I been knowing Perk since 2nd or 3rd grade and he worked extremely hard to get to that point but in the beginning no-one looked at him and said that he was a pro. It is a testament to the guys that help develop him... Facts over fiction... He is my brother and he knows that I only speak the truth... It just came off as hate but if that wasn't your intent, My Bad...

Panther Mile: Chasing Perfection BY: Michael Thomas (Player on the Team) Panther Mile is a story about a group of young men, who through the game of basketball, would become state champions. This story gives the reader an inside look at how the foundation was laid at Clifton J. Ozen High School. It also highlights the personal sacrifice that each individual player and coach had to endure during that time. This story gives young people hope that anything is possible through hard-work and dedication. Amazon Link: [Hidden Content]

Get off Yates...The season is over...Who cares...That’s a lack of class to continue to hate on a team...They won so give them their respect...There is nothing positive about hating on another team... -

ShortTexas you right, Bosh did not dominate Perkins. Dallas Lincoln dominated Ozen. Perkins deserves to be on any all high school team in Texas History... -

Top 15 teams in Texas History...This is my opinion...
Mr. Thomas replied to Mr. Thomas's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
The 1972 Dallas Roosevelt team went (37-4) that year and also upset Wheatley in the semi finals 111 to 109, which is a state tournament record. They would be in my top 20. They had Ira Terrall who still holds the 4a state record for points with 45. Anymore teams I missed? -
What do you think? 1. 1985- Houston Madison 40-0 (Sean Gay) 2. 1970- Houston Wheatley 39-0 (Dwight Jones) 3. 2001- Willowridge 39-0 (T.J. Ford & Daniel Ewing) 4. 1975- Houston Kashmere- 46-0 National Champs (Karl Godine) 5. 2002- Dallas Lincoln 40-0 National Champs (Chris Bosh) 6. 1968- Houston Wheatley 36-0 (Dwight Jones) 7. 1974- Houston Kashmere 42-2 (Karl Godine) 8. 1985- Bay City 35-1 (Labradford Smith) 9. 1987- Laporte 40-0 (William Gooden) 10.1973- Houston Wheatley 43-1 (Eddie Owens) 11.1995- S.A. East Central 35-0 (Stan Bonewitz) 12.2009- Houston Yates 34-1 (Joseph Young) 13.2004- Houston Milby 39-0 (Jawann McClellan) 14.2007- Duncanville 39-0 (Shawn Williams) 15.2001- Beaumont Ozen 36-0 (Kendrick Perkins) If Yates wins state this year they will be top 5 in my opinion.

Who is your favorite Central player of all time?
Mr. Thomas replied to bacbone9's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Perry Hill -
First, I would like to start by congratulating the Huntsville Hornets on beating a good Ozen Team. Ozen had a good season and have nothing to hang their heads about. Second, Coach Saveat (Interim Head Coach) did an excellent job under all the scrutiny. Under his leadership Ozen advance to the 3rd round of the play-offs and went16-2 overall with a District Championship. He deservers to be the 20 4A (13-1) Coach of the year. It is extremely hard to follow a legend in Coach Boutte but he (Coach Saveat) was and still is the right man for the Ozen job. Ozen will be back stronger and more discipline next year. So as fans, coaches and sports writers, who like to criticize, just get ready to jump back on the band wagon like you always do. Like I said earlier, Huntsville was the better and more discipline “TEAM.†"We are what we repeatedly do." (Aristotle)

Where is the Jones vs. Washington game being played? Will it be a double header with Yates vs. Wheatley?
