  1. Mine is in '92 against Baytown Lee. It was our homecoming. I had 4 sacks and an interception with my left arm in a cast. The QB for Baytown Lee was Clint Stoerner (soph). We won 36-14.
  2. Yes Vidor's black helmets with the all black uniforms looked really nice. They had to stop using the black helmets several years ago when there were so many kids though out the state getting heat stroke. Not sure how big a difference it makes, black does attract heat, but better to be safe.
  3. You also have to take into account the situations that you might be in in the Houston area depending on which school. Money isn't everything, I don't think you get into coaching or teaching for the money. These are both good schools and communities. I know there are some good ones in the Houston area too.
  4. Yeah, I wouldn't count either one of these teams out, though the Astros better turn it on.
  5. Let's see I'll have to buy that. It's a toss up but it's in Lumberton so that's who I'll go with.
  6. Of course I have to buy it, but I expect a tough hard fought game like always- especially at their place.
  7. Their fans(LR) probably would rather the lights be turned out during their game..
  8. That's nice but I don't see how that will help ya'll win.
  9. hmmmm.... I believe that team you root for also lost 11-3 to the Royals. Why no post on that??
  10. He became the first Astro's rookie to hit for the cycle, though the Astros lose 8-7 in 11.
  11. It's hard for me to believe that anyone will overlook someone when they are playing in Reliant Stadium. I am sure as soon as it was announced all 4 teams have been thinking about that game and their opponent.
  12. I think that Lufkin has a lot more comming back.
  13. I'm not saying how many they will win or who they will beat but Livingston should be a better team than New Caney. They were 7-4 last year and return 7 on offense and 7 on deffense. I would not call myself a Lumberton fan by any means but I am a football fan. Any time a team makes an improvement (though it remains to be seen), I am all for it. It will only make the games more interesting and excitting. To Lumberton fans I would only have to say as Teddy Roosevelt did... "speak softly but carry a big stick"... It's great to be behind your team as the rest of us in SETX are behind ours...
  14. I would like to see them pick up another bat. I would rather them pick up Soriano or Lee, but I really don't see any room in the outfield for them. That is unless they trade Ensberg, who has not hit well since early in the season. I still think though that after he heals completly that he can and will produce. That would leave possibly trading Everett, who is one of my favorites- he plays hard everyday, runs out every at bat, but he is lacking offensivly. To me the only one that would make sense would be Tejada. I'm not sure how much that change would help. Basically, giving up defense for offense.
  15. I don't believe that UH is that far off. Coach Briles is an excellent coach. These things take time and this will be his 4th year ( I think). So, this year and next should show it. Since, these should all be kids that he recruited and had 3 or 4 years in his system. Peolple have gotten down about the program because they expected too much too fast after going 7-6 in his first season, with a bowl game. I credit that season too the fact that he was running a new system that the other schools hadn't seen. Therefore, they were being out schemed. The past 2 years the other schools have caught up now it depends on the his recruits comming through. It will happen, remember they had Oregon down 21-14 at the end of the 3rd quarter and just ran out of gas, due to the lack of depth. That was an Oregon team that was 10-2 last year, their only losses were to USC and Oklahoma in the Holiday Bowl. This year they have Miami on 9/30. It will be good to see how they hang with the big boys this year.
  16. I think that too many kids make that a decision to go to a school because of who the school is and what they did in the past. Which is fine if they fit into that system or scheme. Also, they need to take into account who else is there and whether or not they could go to another school and get more playing time. I know everyone wants to win championships and dream from the time they start play a sport of playing for that championship but I would rather be on a good team and playing then sitting the bench for a championship team. Plus you never know when the powers may switch. Utah made a run at it a couple of years ago and eventually someone will make that jump. TCU has had a high quality program for years and UH is up and coming. Just my two cents....
  17. It would have to be a toss up between a chug bug and a Zara spook, but in the spring an orange bellied Long-A catches some monsters.
  18. My biggest bass was 10.9lbs. I caught it on Toledo at night in July '02 on a buzzbait.
  19. I have spent Tues-Thur the past 2 weeks at Toledo and have been catching an estimated 20-40 keepers a day ( of course I'm releasing them) ,including a 7.7 and a 8.2 this week. I'm catching them on watermelon/ red senkos ( actually I'm using Luck E Strikes version- jogger worm) rigged wacky style in water 0- 5ft on banks with grass. I also caught 17 crappie in 5-10 ft on green bettle spin.
  20. The only reason to have an artificial field would be if you are having to share a field with other schools. I know that it has changed considerably in the years since I played, and I have been on the new field turf (Northwestern State). There is still a greater risk for injuries. I think that it is a better and safer game played on grass.
  21. Culbert redshirted his first year and mainly played special teams this year. He should see some playing time next year at free safety.
  22. I believe that 4 teams makes more since than 3. I think that whether you are in the "large" or "small" bracket, that you should play the same number of playoff games in order to be state champ. For that to happen, there would have to be the same number of teams that make each bracket. Thus either 2 or 4 should go, definitely not 3. That is unless you do away with the "large" and "small" bracket and just make one.
  23. You deffinately have to go with Noah, after all he did win the three point contest at the end of last season.
