  1. [Hidden Content] The link above will take you to the NCAA Gender Equity Manual and goes into specific details surrounding Title IX. It is written as an NCAA document but the same concepts apply to high school athletics. It makes for good reading and you will discover that it is not as simple as a "dollar-for-dollar" issue...that many incorrectly believe Title IX states. Participation numbers and the type of sport are just two factors that allow for a lesser funding amount for a particular sport. Granted, some sports are being flat out ignored, and yes that is a problem.
  2. To be clear, I was not there... but it sounds like by this description it was one of those times where "the last one SEEN committing the act" is the one that got the penalty...such as in football when we see a guy get slapped when the ref wasn't looking, then get's caught slapping back and HE get's the penalty. The umpire pressured himself (again just speculating) to make a call based on what he saw (runner advancing at the catcher unsportsmanlike) and the crowd's reaction. Perhaps he acted too swiftly and should have investigated further into what happened. However, if neither official saw what the catcher did first it would be difficult to impress penalty on her, for something they didn't witness. Just an opinion but I think based on what I've read, a good stern warning to each side would have sufficed. But again, I wasn't there.
  3. texastrack.com lists it as May 11-12 (Austin)
  4. I'm trying to picture it...help me out here... ...so, it's like a big indian head?...and his mouth is open, like the old MGM Grand casino lion-head entrance in Vegas?...and the players run out his mouth?? Sounds ok...and with the fog pouring out it will like like "big chief-um smokem peace pipe...blow smoke-um"
  5. Not exactly... Jackson's betting revolved around his own team and games he played in...which had an affect on the game's outcome. Rose's betting was NOT on his own team or games he was involved in, just on other baseball teams. At least that's the way I heard/read/seen it. Rose should be in the Hall of Fame...PERIOD. Anyone that doesn't feel that way does not realize his accomplishments and the level of difficulty involved. Which is why it is so difficult to get into the baseball HOF. Heck, in football any slightly above-avg bozo gets in...in baseball you actually have to be special.
  6. I agree. I know some of the fall sports are wrapping up still but as soon as they are done they should be dropped down the pecking order and replaced with all the spring sports. I know this area is overly obsessed with HS football but please...it's over now...take a deep breath, it's gonna be ok and back soon enough. : FRY-DAY KNIGHT LITES! YEE-HAW!
  7. I'm willing to bet that if the applicant doesn't have athletic director beside his name...scratch him from the list. Same goes for Head Coach...if he's only been an assistant, forget it. SLC will fill it with someone who is actively an AD and/or Head Coach. I thinking Heath (Pearland), Brown (Brazosport) and Erwin (LaMarque) are the final three. They can't go wrong with any of those 3. And I'll go with Heath as the winner. Erwin a close second and will get the job if they don't get the deal right with Heath.
  8. Actually...I was kidding about the no comment. I thought I said my position was yes in my first response... ...and yes, I am a big fan of the greatest president of the modern era...Ronald Reagan. ;D
  9. My point is that they shouldn't HAVE to be made to participate in off-season workouts and/or training. However, if the school's athlete's are that much of underachievers and lack the proper self-motivation needed to be the best they can be then...yes, for the good of the program, they should be "made" to work out. You look at the top programs in any sport and the majority of their athletes don't need to be made to do what it takes to achieve maximum potential...as I stated above they KNOW and DO what t takes on their own.
  10. An truly, dedicated athlete should not have to be "made" to do something that will benefit them as an athlete. Mine can recite what I've told her her entire athletic life when it comes to training: An ELITE athlete and an average athlete both know what hard work it takes to be a champion...the difference between them...is that the elite athlete DOES the hard work that it takes to be a champion. "The only place that Success comes before Work...is in the dictionary." Vince Lombardi
  11. I got my hands on this footage of the halftime talk in the Cowboys locker room: [Hidden Content]
  12. I know it would never happen but it would be cool to see an all Texas conference. We have 10 Div I-A teams now. Can stay with that, or have two Div I-AA teams to move up, and create... ...the TEXAS 10 or the TEXAS 12 or even something like the LONE STAR 10 (OR 12) Just a thought...that's do-able.
