1. Sunds like there some jealous people on this thread. Tony is a able to go these camps and get noticed by these big schools. You have to get invited to these big camps. If you don't perform at those camps, you won't get offers. Also, I've seen his stats and no they are not impressive. However, I wonder how much of that is that the other teams stay away from his side of the field. I know that happened to Beasley and Thomas when they started to get interests from major schools. The big schools won't offer or sign without watching film on him. I wish him the best and also hope his dad makes a full and speedy recovery.

DeSoto was #1
In USA today they were #2 behind John Curtis of La.. Katy was #4.  Allen was unranked and are now at #13. USA today also lists the computer rankings and the computers have Katy at #31, Allen at #3 and John Curtis at #51. In no way do the cmputer rankings jive with the "ediorial" rankings. That's just USA Today though, MaxPreps probably has the same teams in a different order.

Congrats to Newton on a great season. I was at the game and Yoe won because they made the least mistakes.
Penalties at crucial times and Yoe being fundamentaly sound and discipline were the reasons Newton lost.
The first crucial penalty for Newton came as they appeared to have a saftey and got called for facemask penalty. Then, later they have Yoe stopped inside the 5 twice and both times they have penalties. You can't give a team the caliber of Yoe's extra plays inside the 5. The fumble at the end of the 1st half didn't help either. I guess though, according to some on this site, these are all the coach's fault.
In the second half, penalties again cost Newton. Several times they would start a drive 1st and 15 or 1st and 20. The recievers also dropped some passes on some 3rd and 4th downs.
Yoe didn't have the penalties and they tackled well.
My point is there were several reasons why they lost the game. Instead for blaming the Newtion coaches why don't you just give credit to Yoe for playing a great game. This game was won by the team that made the least mistakes. Which in the playoffs, is usually the way they are decided.  Newton will be back strong again next year.

4. My heart goes out to those families in Conn.
This was perpatrated by mentally ill person with access to his mother's guns. I think it will come out that the guy probably needed to be in a mental facility somewhere.
Somebody wanted to know where school security was. Well, most school districts don't have the money for a security force like BISD. The reports I have heard said that someone let him in that knew him. His mother did teach at the school.
I'm of the opinion,  we should at least let administrators to be able to carry concealed weapons. Not necessarilly the teachers, but the principal or superintendant should be able to carry a concealed weapon. People go into these schools knowing that they can inflict a lot damage before the police get there and won't be challenged with a weapon untill they get there. Also, if these loonaticts want a gun they can get one legally or illeagally.
This also, what happens when we coddle the mentally ill. If they've been diagnosed with a mental illnes that predisposes them to violence, put them
in a place where they can get help. If they can't be helped put them some place and leave them there!
I'm tired of when something like this happens, it's from sombody with a "mental illness". Why then are they walking around the public?
Quit making excuses for these killers. Sometimes these perpatrators are just evil!

What is different with Newton? Newton keeps being singled out as an exception to all these other reasons. Why? What makes them different? What does Newton have that others don't that trumps the problems being discussed? Shouldn't other programs be able to study why and emulate the program in ways to produce the same type result? Far as I know there is no Voodoo involved. I don't see dead chicken carcasses or blood scrawled words on the facilities. There has to be a reason that Newton has been able to produce consistently year in and year out and other programs do not. It's not money, that's for sure.
Newton has 3A talent that plays in 2A for one thing. They have an established program and tradition that didn't change for 36 years under Coach Barbay. W. T. was under Barbay long enough to continue on without missing a beat, just like Coach T at WOS. Consistancey and continuatey at both these programs.

A highly overrated Newton is going to get rolled big time!  :P

Yoe -    42
Newton - 7
This is a pretty funny statement, but was wondering exactly what criteria was used to arrive at this conclusion. I think there may be 13 teams that have a little different opinion than this. Just saying...... 8)
Newton has played nothing but chumps. They are beyond overrated and will finally meet their match in the biggest upset in thus far. They go in with the big head and come out with the big L in this one...

Cock, you really earned your username on this thread!
As far as playing "chumps', Newton "rolled" them as they were supposed to.
This will be a close game but I think Newton has a little too much offense and wins 42-35. I also think the winner of this game wins state.
8. The other factor in the Golden Triangle that has not been brought up has been the effect that Hurricanes Rita and Ike has had in this area. Specifically the population. The population has declined since the two hurricanes and so has the talent. After the hurricanes people started heading west towards Houston and north to East Texas and the Metroplex. I think the Golden Triange will be able get teams into the 3rd, 4th and an occasional semi-final and a rare title game. I think Newton will always be a threat in 2A. I think we will have trouble getting over the hump in 5A-3A. Money and facilities are not the only factors. I think we do pretty well with our resources.
9. The Summer Creek posters talk more smack for a team that was sitting home after the second round than anybody I've seen on here for a while. You guys really tell it like it ain't. Greatest show on turf? Really? You all got punked in the second round! Shut up and move on. And yes, "if ifs and butts were candy and nutts, we'd all have a Merry Christmas." I'm sure the coaches and the players are working hard to get farther next year.
10. After seeing Navasota in person, I think they will be Gilmer for the title. They're the best all around team I've seen in a while at the 3A level. That #2 is probably the second fastest guy I've seen in a high school game. Ivory Williams being #1. He absolutely ran off and hid from WOS last Friday. Their defense is big and fast and they are ballhawks. Unless they have a bunch of turnovers, they'll win the title.

I sat on Navasota's side last week but will sit on WOS this time as I believe will be more seating there.
I wouldn't bet on that. WOS side will be packed as most of the fans in the Golden Triangle, not going to the Newton game, will be there. I'd say that Turner Stadium will be at capacity, on both sides.

I just watch some more highlights and film on Wo-s this game is going to come down how yall's O line can block. I saw a lot plays where they engage on a D lineman and let them go that will not work. I believe it will start up front at the line of scrimmage for who wins this battle. That is a honestly opinion Good luck to us all Friday I pray for no injury and that everyone stays health.
I agree, the offensive and defensive line play along with turnovers decides this one.
