Does the defending champion have most of their team coming back? If they graduated a majority of the team, I don't see how last year's team should get them into the top ten.

I can't think of anyone that would believe that a player that is not as good should play because of who he is related to. This should be a very short thread.

It has to be Lumberton or Vidor. Both are picked at the bottom of the pack. Dayton is coming in undefeated in this district and many pick them to win again, maybe undefeated. I don't see how any coach or fans will take them lightly. I don't see how LC-M is underrated when most people pick them to challenge for the playoffs. About the only way they can be underrated would be to go through district undefeated.

I have heard that there may be a problem with Jasper's field not being ready. They are supposed to make a call on Friday to see if they are to play in Jasper or Nederland. Anyone else heard that?

How about the 1984 game where Nederland snapped the 19 game losing streak to PN-G. Nederland was leading 13-7 late in the game and PN-G was driving for the winning touchdown and I think they were inside of the 15 yards line. Nederland held them out to hold on for the win as time expired. That was quite a celebration as the last second ticked off the game clock. I don't know if a team winning a state championship could match that crowd on that night.

Nope. They won when Dustin Long was a senior in 1999. IF I remember correctly it was the last district game of the year. If Price hit the field goal, PNG wins and goes to the playoffs. His attempt bounced off of the upright and Nederland won 21-19 and that sent Nederland to the playoffs.

Holding kids accountable for what, playing two sports? Dustin Hood from Nederland was an all-state quarterback and several times an all-district shortstop. He ended up at a division I school (Wake Forest) playing baseball. I wonder how many practices he missed of one sport over the other. I wonder if Larry Neumann held him "accountable" for being outstanding in two sports. How many first string basketball players will miss their first few practices when they are playing in the football playoffs? I guess the basketball coach should hold them accountable for being in the football playoffs.

Yeah but there is no "Beaumont Bowl" game. There are three of them. Then look at Ozen's record last year against WB's, it doesn't shape up into much of a game on paper. Sure we don't know the outcome since they haven't played yet. The Dayton/WO-S game however looks like a good matchup of two probable district champs.

As that saying goes: It's better to keep your mouth shut and appear to be a fool than to open it and remove all doubt. I think Coach McFarlin just removed all doubt.

I think the guy is a nutcase. All that he is going to do is cause dissension in his team. There are a bunch of ways that this thing can play out. Just one for example, let's say the coach benches the starters that played baseball like he says and they will have to "earn" their way back. It seems to me that they have already earned their way and are the best players at their position. Did the second stringers really get that much better in the week or so of practice that they guys missed? Not likely. So now what? The second stringers either know that the coach is an idiot and he is using them for a pawn to get back at the starters or they really think that they are now number one on the depth chart only to be crushed two weeks later before the season begins when they realize that the starters (and best players) are really going to be number one anyway. Then the goof goes on to say "It's not their fault. It's the Little League organization's fault to have a tournament this late in the year." Wait a minute, he is punishing the starters by moving them down on the depth chart for something that even he states is not their fault? What a rocket scientist he is. I wouldn't be surprise if one or more of them quit in disgust. No matter what the coach believed (or how wrong he is), I think he would have been better off to keep his mouth shut.

The poll is lacking in choices. First why only two food items? Why not just "concession stand"? If I get up for the concession stand, it is usually for drinks not food. By looking at the long the lines at the facilties during halftime, I would say that Scalp 'Em obviously hit a hot spot that should have been included.

I like the mods getting a say so. I think it is a tough call between Westbrook/Ozen and WO-S/Dayton. Westbrook/Ozen has two local teams in it but it might not be much of a contest. It also only involves only Beaumont teams. WO-S/Dayton will probably be more entertaining so I think that will be my choice.

Scrimmages obviously help a lot and there are things that you can do in a controlled scrimmage that you cannot do in a practice game. It is not as fun for the fans but I think it is better in the long run with maybe some game time play at the end.

Do you stick arrows in helpless deer? If so, where? I will be there on opening day in Chester.
