In most spread offenses the QB is a dual threat player. It is very difficult to defend the pass and also account for the QB in the run game because when the QB runs you have an extra blocker in the RB. Also by making the defense defend the entire field you create holes in the defense. Also as several have mentioned the rules do favor the offense today.

L'Acadien, I would like to see a fair way for them to be able to participate. How would you handle the problem of the work the other kids have to do in the athletic period they would miss? As an ex-coach I believe that time is invaluable and usually very hard work and it wouldn't be fair for them to miss it. Not trying to argue, just wanting to know how you think it could be handled?

I agree with Tigers2010. We need to protect officials and the UIL needs the authority to see that they are protected.

My concerns would be the same as many on here. First, grades. I know many home school parents do a great job, but some do not. As a former educator I know that many children who come back to public schools after being home schooled have fallen far behind. How could you be assured a child was passing all his classes and that those classes were at the same level as the public school classes. Also missing the athletic period. It would be unfair for a kid to participate that missed all the hours of work that the other kids did in the athletic period. However, if those two problems could be managed I would have no objections. Some parents just get mad because they or their kids don't get their way and pull them out of school and often do very little actual schooling at home. Other parents really believe in the concept of home school and do a great job of educating their kids at home and it would be great if a fair system could be worked out for those kids to participate if they want to.

For an out of town game the kids don't have to pay a penny. As long as the school and not a booster is paying for the meal it is perfectly legal. Whether the band, cheerleaders etc.. eat is up to their sponsors and the school district, but it has no effect on whether the team can legally eat a meal paid for by the school.

The rules quoted here refer to a meal paid for by the booster club or someone other than the school. As far as the school feeding the team, they may do so every out of town game as long as the school pays for the meal, and they are not obligated by rule to feed anyone else. The situation with Katy a few years ago involved a meal paid for by a parent before a home game. By the way I am not from Kirbyville, but I do know the rules after 25 years in coaching.

I've known Mike for many years and he will do a great job for Jasper. I also coached 25 years and several of those were at Jasper. I was part of some staffs that had really good teams at Jasper and elsewhere, and for Land95's information Ty Quick is as good of coach as you will find on any staff.
