Cardinal 1 reacted to TxHoops in SETX Player Rankings
Those of you making a totality of the circumstances argument (I.e., they’ve had too many transfers and we are going to put a stop to it), kindly remove your heads from your behinds so you can breathe. IF what is being represented here is true (the kid lives in HFISD and is transferring from Tekoa to HF...private school to his zoned public school), then the DEC absolutely butchered this one.
I have no independent knowledge of this particular kid so that’s why I say “if.” But again, “if” that is true and the DEC voted against this kid based on what they believe may be occurring at HF, despite the evidence for this kid to the contrary, they should be very, very ashamed of themselves. And maybe reflect on why they got into the profession in the first place. Just sayin...

That's all I'm saying in this instance. They may have an argument for the others as one played JV due to UIL rules, but denying a kid coming from a private school to the school he's zoned to is a head scratcher to me and all I'm getting is "the trend" which is understandable if he was coming from another ISD school or just moving into the district but that's not the case at all

What’s worse, the DEC is saying that if your kid wants to play varsity athletics, he has to go to private school. There is not even a public school option for him. This can’t be right. And if so, may be the dumbest DEC decision I’ve ever seen, and I’ve seen some pretty idiotic ones.

So is Tekoa my friend. It's a private charter school with no affiliation with UIL. That's what makes this interesting to me because of that very assessment. I've never seen a kid get denied to play varsity at the achoolhes zoned for coming from a private school.

So each individual transfer isn't based on its own circumstances? The number of move ins shouldn't matter. That would be ridiculous.

It is a private charter school. No UIL affiliation at all

Maybe the DEC wanted a reason for now wanting to attend Hamshire-Fannett.
Look at it from their perspective.
Student attends an academy for most of his adolescent life. Most parents send their children to such schools for the academics or environment. They chose it to be better than public schools which is their right.
Now the young man chooses to attend a public school who just happens to have a new coach. Why wasn't HF considered before this coach arrived? Has the academics and environment at the private school changed? Have they dismantled their athletic program?
These and other questions is what the DEC wants to know about. Based on the answers they received and the research of those answers, it was deemed a transfer for athletic purposes.
Based on the recent activity, I can see where a DEC would have red flags.
I don't think it is personal and I surely don't think it's racial. I know the coaches and AD's in that district. That's not their motivation.
And to answer your question above, I would have allowed the transfer.

I agree and it does seem like someone or someone's are working behind a closed door for the betterment of there school or Alma mater. If all the facts are as stated hopefully UIL can see thru the burning door if an appeal has been filed. I say again I feel bad for the kid whom I recently seen some video footage of playing ball. The kid can hoop.

From my understanding it was the DEC. If so, then an appeal can be made to the UIL.
But, from my experience with appeals, UIL rarely goes against the DEC rulings. UIL wants the DEC's to govern those type things.

Nobody believes this BS. Those are all bmt kids. They all play for SBG. Coach was with SBG. Recruit all you want, but you'll still get third behind HJ and Huffman.

Let the kids go where they want and if your serious about your kid playing at the next level then hopefully hes not a senior and find the right summer team to try and get on cause he will get more looks that way unless your Highschool makes a run in the playoffs or has a kid on the team being recognized by college coaches and he plays well while there watching.

BU, HF, HJ, and maybe Lumberton will be the teams to watch. Nederland and Silsbee will also be tough this year as always, just not contenders I don't believe. As far as players go, Abrams at Memorial (if he stays), BU big 3 in Yates, Arcenueax, and Porchie, Brock at Lumberton, Jackson (i believe?) at Nederland, HF in Dorsey, Coleman, their big man( don't know his name), and I believe Ardoin from Tekoa Academy will be there next year, HJ has Sears and Porter. Pretty much 4A will be the division to watch next year.

So what you are saying is that you don't like the coach and the new students at HF? 🤔 You honestly think schools who hire good coaches don't attract talent and retain the talent they have? The problem is really that you don't like Coach Rideaux and that's evident, but the hundreds of folks that crowded the gym and thousand that followed them in their two playoff games think otherwise 🤷♂️. HF is an open enrollment campus and can accept kids from outside the district just like HJ can. They have their stipulations and grade requirements for these students that apparently are being followed. I know for sure that many of the new faces actually live in the district and was actually attending other schools outside of it. With the hiring of Coach Rideaux, they simply transferred to the school they are zoned for. Are you making the accusation that these kids aren't smart and are in some way bypassing HF standards because of sports? 🤔 I know for sure one kid that is looking to transfer there next year is National Honor society and will graduate top of his class sooooo.....

Why do you or anyone else care how long their families have lived there? These are kids perusing a college education using a talent very few have. I don't understand why adults put so much energy in trying to keep children from that just so their area high school can win a game. If a school brings in a great coach, players will come. There's a reason why HJ and Silsbee have great programs. They've always had good coaches which attracted players. Both have players that weren't from their school district, but moved there because the opportunity in the classroom and on the court was better. Ardoin from Tekoa went to HF elementary school before and his family has had a five acre family compound in checks for over 12 years so when folks decide to challenge his move, they will look very stupid.

Bush is a senior going to play D1 basketball while Ardoin is sophomore who just averages 20 plus points 10 rebs and did it against 4a and 5a schools from a charter school. They don't compare at all due to graduation differences.
HJ had more experience as far as players being on varsity the previous year. The two best players from HF didn't play varsity last year at all and was able to help turn around a team that won only 2 games last year. It's funny how a group players and a coach who help turn around a non traditional basketball program is some how look upon as not being a threat next year? Even though they beat both of the teams that are at the top of the district. Go figure

They already live there. They were just playing at other schools because HF basketball program was subpar. That's what happens when you actually get a real coach. Players will stay home
-

Not sure why some would think Rideaux is leaving. He already told players they will be stronger and faster which require track practice. For all players

I saw that game, he wasn't impressive at all when pressure applied. Most shooters are zone defense players and can't handle man to man. HF will have the best player in the district hands down next year, if not 2 or 3. They have a JV player that I believe will average a double double next year. Their PG will be probably be one of the tops in the district and they have a kid coming that is one of the best in the state. He's been at a charter school the past few years due to his dad being the coach there. His family lives in Cheeks
