BC sacked Silsbee 1 time and had 5 tackles for loss.
Fair enough. It's ashame you can't get the "pro style" stats with "hurries and knockdowns" because I bet that would shed some more light on what Admin is saying.
 2.

I look for a low scoring game. Both defenses are very good. Silsbee came in averaging about 30 points a game, shutout. I know the QB got hurt but the back up was a very good athlete. BC's defensive backfield is as solid as any team I've seen this year, rank with Vidor's. I think the key to winning the game for WOS is the offensive line. If they can win the line of scrimmage, which Silsbee didn't do, they have a good chance to win this game.
So based on these stats, just who did win the line of scrimmage in the BC/Silsbee game?                               Silsbee Bridge City Total yards                   249  190 First downs                     15 11 Rushes/Yds                 33/150 33/133 Average rush           4.54 4.03 Comp/Atts                 14/32/6 15/7/0 Pass yards                     99 57 Silsbee ran 64 total plays, BC 48. Both teams averaged right at 4 yards per play.
Not trying to stir anything up here but do you have any stats on plays that resulted in 0 or negative yards for both teams? It seemed like Silsbee was in 3rd and long all night (some of that was a result of penalties also) and that BC's defensive line was constantly in their backfield. Now to Silsbee's credit they did make a ton of conversions on those long yardage situations but you must admit the BC defense spent a lot of time in the Silsbee backfield, much more than any of us could have probably imagined if the truth were told. Both Silsbee QB's did a great job of scrambling away from constant pressure. Drake made several great escapes and had to throw the ball away. I think that's what Admin is referring to. Silsbee did outgain BC in the stats and in time of posession, no disputing that. BC gambled a ton on blitzes and played a little bit of "risk/reward" defense. Sometimes the risk worked as they pressured the QB or stuffed Spearman, other times they got beat. I don't even want to remember the 2nd and 25's or 3rd and 15's that they converted and made look easy. Wow!! Rake1

 5.
I can say this about WOS.  This is honestly the first Cardinal team that goes into the BC/WOS game where BC is the favorite.  HOWEVER, I do think the Mustangs are still a very dangerous team and always has the firepower to ignite.  I really don't see how you played Nederland so close in week 1 and 7 weeks later it has come to this.  However, WOS is one team that can always beat you.
Not sure about BC being the favorite, maybe more like a comparable or equal opponent. Yes the records are different but just like other sports you are always the champ until someone beats you. So far that's only been done 1 time by a district foe in how many years?? A reasonable observation may be more like 2 teams that "appear" to be headed in different directions. At this point and time BC is on the upswing after a hard earned victory while WOS is still trying find some consistency and become the team we all expected to see. Where is the contradiction? Please with your infinite knowledge explain. A great team finds a way to win. I'm not sure if you a are playing around and hope you are, but seems like the same posts we have seen for years. Bottom line is there will be many tears from bridge city come late Friday night. Typical, and entertaining. The only time BC talks is when a dog is wounded. Well a wounded dog is the MOST dangerous to play with. By the way, I have a great crow gumbo recipe that a few teams have shared with me if you would like.
Okay Kicker.....here you go. (with the help of my so called "infinite knowledge" The contradiction comes from your 2 sided statement about being 10 points from undefeated and "a win is a win" is that simple enough for you. If it's 10 points or 100 points it's still a loss, you can't have it both ways which is what you are trying to do. You don't hear BC fans saying "we are 15 points from being undefeated", accept the fact that your record is what it is and go on. It's always the same story from the blindly devoted faithful, "a good team finds a way to win" when you don't play your best. Very seldom do you see credit given to the opponent for playing well. Your macho talk of invincibility rings hollow as the "we are mightier than all others" lingo as well. My point in this whole thread is that a truly "objective" fan, one who can see all sides and is not so blinded by loyalty, would say this has the potential to be a really good game. If WOS wins then they were obviously the better team at the time. I have already posted on an earlier thread that the district championship still has to go through WOS because I am an objective fan. If BC wins then it will be a huge statement for their program and probably earn them some respect that many refuse to give them.  As far as poking fun at Skipper goes I am definitely not the first one to make light of his computer skills. As you obviously read earlier in the thread Skipper and I were able to settle the situation in a friendly manner and I consider that the end of it. If you feel the need to stand up and come to the rescue go find a kitten in a tree. Also, no crow recipes needed here due to the fact that I have generated no outlandish trash talk worthy of a crow dinner. You may need to save them for yourself since you are the only one predicting the outcome. I said it has the potential to be a really good game and that is what I am personally hoping for. Rake1
Nope, still not contradiction. They are two seperate statements that I said close together. Here, ill help you understand. I said we are 10 points away from being undefeated. Those loses were to good teams that beat us. Never said it wasn't. Second, I said a win is a win. That also is a true statement. Also, a loss is a loss. I see what you are thinking but that is not what i meant when I said it. Also, I'm not the "only" one that predicts a win by the Mustangs. Just read the whole thread. Well have to agree to disagree on this.  Now...that could be a contradiction.....
I beg to differ! No need to "help me understand" your bass akwards logic. You are still playing both sides of the fence. It still doesn't matter how many you lost by unless I missed a new stat that you have created. Give credit where credit is due, really it's okay to do that sometimes. And also nobody said you were the only one who predicted a win, don't get it twisted. I will agree that we will have to disagree. Please continue to support your team and enjoy the games ahead, I plan to do the same. Rake1

You obviously didn't see the game. Making a statement like that is very uninformed because the Silsbee back up QB is an athlete. Garrett Drake gave them a very good shot at winning, he wasn't just a warm body that had no business out there. A statement like that also disrespects the efforts of the BC defense. 15. A few game observations.... 1. Fantastic game atmosphere for football game between 2 really comparable teams. Very cleanly played game by the players, great sportsmanship and competition. Saw several guys help players up off the ground from opposing sides. All these young men were good examples of how it's done. 2. Great game for both defenses! Was really blown away that BC was able to spend so much time in the Silsbee backfield, especially with the size of Silsbee's O line. Conditioning was a big factor in this as well, BC defense was on the field ALL NIGHT and was still running around in the 4th quarter like it was the 1st. 3. Garrett Drake played a super game. He extended plays from the QB position with his speed, that guy can go. Really a shame that Reed got hurt, hope he's okay. 4. Unreal how many long 3rd down conversions Silsbee made, had to be a half dozen that were over 10 yards. That offense they ran on those plays looked like it took advantage of their talent, the field really gets big when they use their use speed and that created some wide open spaces. 5. One thing BC appeared to really take advantage of was the Senior experience at their skill positions. Menard, Dishon, Hubbard, Roberts,Clark etc have all been in those big games before and that was definitely a plus. Silsbee can look forward to having that luxury for the next several years with the young talent they posess. 6. Have to give a big thumbs up to BC defensive coaches for a great game plan. They changed their look and brought some pressure from different areas. Silsbee's coaches are to be commended as well, their defensive game plan was top notch and more than good enough to win. In the end BC took advantage of Silsbee miscues (INT's and penalties) and a great performance from their defense. The BC offense finally did enough in the 2nd half to both score and give their defense a much needed break from the first half. Silsbee seemed like they just couldn't get the one big play that would allow them to really break it loose. The district race is wide open and nobody out there is a lock. It gets nothing but more exciting each week from here on out. Hold on, it's going to be wild ride! Good luck to Silsbee for the rest of the season. Rake1

Menard may be a better qb due to experience but not good enough to make up for silsbee's depth.
Absolutely no disrespect to the Tigers but I think the comparison with RB, Defense, and Receivers is MUCH CLOSER than you think. BC's Hunter Clark is a very good back, don't let stats fool ya. BC throws the ball around 50% of the time which takes away from Clark's carries, add in the fact that Menard and Dishon get a fair share of carries as well. As far as receivers go it's tough to discount Dishon, Mitchell Hubbard, and Tyler Roberts. Dishon's accomplishments have been well documented, Hubbard is very fast as well (finished in the top of the district in 100M I believe last year but I could be mistaken) and has good hands. Tyler Roberts is a big, athletic reciever that presents some match up problems and he runs well also. Defensively BC has an outstanding secondary and some solid linebackers. The Defensive line has really made strides since earlier in the season. These 2 teams are much closer in comparison than it sounds like you give them credit for. Now I want to apologize ahead of time if I misinterpreted your post or read something into it that was not there. I know AAW has the stats somewhere, would like to see the comparisons between the teams. I would bet you something shiny that BC has a much larger total for pass attempts and is really close to being split 50/50 on run vs pass. Silsbee more than likely has a higher total of rushes vs passes while taking advantage of Spearman's talent in the backfield, which they should. Too close to call but very highly anticipated. Good Luck to all. Rake1
I have been watching the film and i agree that it isn't a landslide by any means. Bridge City likes to air it out and i saw some pretty Impressive catches by dishon and #11, but i haven't seen Hubbard do much besides cheapshotting an hj reciever. The running back is big and fast and runs hard, much like spearman does, but spearman has just impressed me too much to think that bridge city's is better. And Bridge city's defense is pretty solid, silsbee's just always seems to come up clutch. But yes i would have to say both teams play very similar football and match up pretty well.
Definition of cheap shot depends on what side of the field you sit on. From BC's vantage point (plus film) it was not a cheap shot. Going across the middle in front of Hubbard is taking a risk because that guy is looking for the big hit and usually finds them. Hubbard has done well on kick returns, one for a TD, and has come up with some clutch receptions. Don't discount the guy. Also #11 is Tyler Roberts. Rake1

 19.

Okay I'll play along....and try to be as objective as possible. 1. Both Silsbee and BC are very talented on both sides of the ball. BC may have a slight edge due to the fact that they have so many seniors at all the skill positions. Silsbee has it's best days ahead with Soph's in the backfield, even at that they will still be a tough task to handle. 2. BC will get it's first taste of a good feature back in Spearman. So far this year they have not seen anybody with an above average running back except Vidor and that's a little different due to the offense the Pirates run. BC will sport a good back of their own in Clark who will certainly be a load coming through the line as well. Not to mention Menard and the possibility of Dishon in the wildcat formation. 3. Quarterback comparison has to go to Menard at this point. That guy can beat you with his arm or his legs and he is really flourishing in that spread offense. Reed is going to be a good one as well. Has shown signs of how good he can be but like most under classmen has struggled just a little with consistency. BC has a veteran seconary and that may pose a problem. If Silsbee gets their Tight Ends involved and throw a screen or two to give the Soph some confidence and get into a rhythm it may be a coming out party for him. This guy will draw comparisons to past Silsbee greats before it's all said and done. 4. Defense is a toss up. Both groups are really active and led by their linebackers. The size of the Silsbee Offensive line has to be a concern for BC. The combination of that big line and a good back could prove to be the key for Silsbee. On the other hand BC some very talented guys on their offense with plenty of speed and they really spread the field out making containment a must. This game has been high on the "anticipation list" for both sides because it should go a long way in determining the playoff picture for the district. I do think however Silsbee got a break with their schedule by not having to play BC and WOS back to back like the Cards and Stangs have to do. But with that said I don't think most folks, myself included, realized how good OF would turn out this season. The Silsbee vs BC matchup should be a full 4 quarter affair and certainly be worth the price of admission.  On that note I guess I will take BC in a close one due to their experience but I certainly wouldn't be surprised if Silsbee wins either. Gonna be a good one regardless who you pick. Rake1
Good post, very nice and accurate assessment. Prediction just a tad off. ;)
Dangit AAW!!! What did you expect! :) At least it was "objective" and not something crazy. Really looking forward to this one. Too close to call so I take the home team, even if that makes it a "homer pick". See ya at the game.
 20. 21. I'm not real sure what all the drama is about because I missed the last quarter of the game on the radio while going out of town. Don't have a clue as to what Coach T said or implied. But here are a few things that I do know: 1. Regardless of their pre-season record the district title goes through WOS, PERIOD. I don't care what the "homers" say. If you don't believe they are the dominant program in the area just look at how many threads get started by other schools about "who wins when they play WOS". You rarely if ever see WOS starting a thread about playing Silsbee,BC, or any others. You can not like it all you want but you do have to acknowledge the fact. 2. Yes there are some growing pains going on in Mustang country but they are still very, very, dangerous. 3. The district race will be a good one. Silsbee is talented and coming into their own, BC has as much talent at all the skill positions as anyone, and WOS has a ridiculous defense that is capable of shutting anybody down. 4. Giving credit where credit is due the WOS pre-district schedule was borderline suicidal compared to many others. That's just a fact that's hard to deny. 5. If WOS does not implode from within or from pressure from the faithful they will continue to be the one team everyone else in the district is chasing. If you don't believe that one I bet you a cold drink each team in the district has their date with WOS circled on the calendar. To be fair I would imagine that WOS has their eyes on the other top conteders as well. I look forward to seeing how it all works out. Good luck to all the teams. Rake1
 22.
same song year in and year out... they hammer WEAK teams and get destroyed by quality teams. playing shepherd and stafford will do nothing for you when the time comes to lineup against the stangs in district. i would love to see bc play above their heads in pre district and prove they can beat or even hang with bigger/better teams. different year, same outcome.  ;)
2 types of WOS fans Example "A" would be knowledgable, gracious, well informed folks like TD and Gas. The kind of fans you enjoy talking sports with, honest about their teams ability and complimentary of other programs. These would be the vast majority of the Mustang faithful. Really good people who are passionate about their team while maintaining respect for others. Example "B" would where venom33 would fall. Delusional, angry, jealous and so worried that someone other than their team is doing well that they hijack threads in the name of proclaiming their greatness over all that roam the earth. These are the kind of folks who always figure out a way to disrespect the other team, even when they lose to said team! It's never "we got beat", it's always "we gave it away or let them win". Also this fan uses the "both sides of the fence defense", especially where schedules and opponents are concerned. WO-S loses to a 4A opponent but it makes them better while BC loses to a 4A opponent and they get "crushed". Comments like that just leave me and others left to shake our heads and wonder. Enjoy your "rabid little fantasy world" that you call home venom33. So sad.......So sad
 23. Good game despite some awful conditions! Would have been nice to have seen it played under better circumstances. Vidor runs that offense well, they really play to their strength and are very disciplined. BC miscues cost them dearly, bad snaps, penalties, etc. Both teams squandered some scoring opportunities and certainly left some points on the field. The QB/LB #23 is a heck of a player, tough on both sides of the ball. Thought BC may have put it together when they started running Clark in the 4th, he's a tough runner, but it was too little too late. Awfully hard to do much more than try and play power football in the rain. Sure hated to see #58 for BC leave on crutches, good kid, hope he's okay. On a side note I would personally like to commend Vidor for the pre game prayer!! Not just a moment of silence but a real deal prayer. Good job right there, well done. Very nice to see that happen in this day and time.
 24. Good scrimmage for both sides. Real game atmosphere including some "defense" chants from the Jasper faithful in the stands, that was great! Both teams had a few costly turnovers and penalties. Each team had scores called back due to penalties. Jasper showed some nice team speed and they have some quick running backs who can cover some ground. The Bulldog defensive front has some athletic guys as well. Speaking of speed, the run Dishon made was ridiculous! Hit of the night belongs to BC's Mitchell Hubbard, the Jasper receiver never saw it coming as he crossed the middle. Both squads shook off some rust and played well during the 2 quarters of live game action, each team should look forward to their respective seasons with much optimism.
 25.
I'll be at Tiger Stadium this morning taking in this controlled scrimmage. I will either post or phone in updates to Grad as the scrimmage progress. note (I'll make a point to only comment positively about Kirbyville and negatively about Silsbee, to please the few) ::)
WARNING! WARNING! WARNING!  Pigs have reportedly been seen flying over Hardin county, please take cover! :D
